I can't believe this is the first time all year I've watched a game in Guilford County. Anyhow....

Yeah, the Grimsley boys are pretty darn good. Quick, athletic, and smart. They totally outclassed Southeast. Final was 69-24. Southeast is just in a crappy situation.

Southeast girls won 57-35. The story of this game was senior guard Sydney Roberts reaching a point milestone of some sort (not sure what it was......the acoustics in the Southeast gym are bloody awful). Another senior for the Falcons scored the very first points of her career. That was cool.

I'll elaborate a little more in the next couple of days.....

The Lady Falcons looked pretty good. They already had built themselves a substantial lead by the time I walked through the door. Southeast used their pressure defense and quickness to keep the Whirlies hurried and off-balance. I really enjoyed watching Sydney Roberts and Mackenzie Harris. I think both of those ladies can play college ball somewhere. Roberts is very quick. Falcons also had a lefty (#5) who was knocking down quite a few shots.

This year's edition of Southeast looks and plays like a typical Southeast team. If they can play their game, I think they can win one maybe two games in the state playoffs. However, 4A playoffs will be much tougher than what they've been used to the last few years....

While watching the game, I didn't think Grimsley was that bad of a team. I looked on MaxPreps and saw that their record was 3-17. I was surprised they had only won three games. Then, I took a look at their schedule.......maan, is it brutal.

It also doesn't help that their team is primarily composed of freshman and sophomores. However, this Whirlie team, if they stick together, is going to be tough to deal with in a couple of years. There are some ladies on this team with some good potential. I enjoyed watching sophomore guard Avery Knapp especially.

The Southeast boys are kind of in the same predicament as the Grimsley girls. The Falcons are now 1-18 on the year. Yes, the Falcons clearly were not on Grimsley's level. However, I was shocked that they only have one win. I figured they would have at least a few more. Then, I looked at their schedule. Absolutely brutal.

Imagine being in a conference where you had to play Page, Grimsley, Northern Guilford, NW Guilford, SW Guilford and Ragsdale twice a year. That's rough.

There was one player on Southeast who I was really impressed with........a guard by the name of Jason Hancock. I really liked his competitiveness, energy, and vocal leadership. The Falcons need at least four more guys just like him.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Whirlies got their 20th win of the season. They've got a really good backcourt......Jaylin Watlington and Jordan Wall. Man, these guys are quick.....especially Wall. They also have a impressive combo player in sophomore Alex Taylor. Taylor's listed at 6-2 but looks taller. Add to that, the Whirlies have a good jump shooter by the name of Nick Elliot.

These Whirlies are fun to watch. I'll definitely be in the house Friday night when they take on Northern Guilford.
