Franklin vs Shelby

Not sure if we have played before but don't see it with a quick glance of the past records. Panthers are young & have had some key injuries this year. I'm a homer but not a blind homer. Our only chance is to convince the Lions that the game is up in Franklin @ the Pit. Will be a good learning experience for our underclassmen. Wish I was up in NC as I would love to go to this one no matter what the score is. We will show up & play all 4Q's. Proud of the kids this & every year. Heard a amazing stat on our pregame radio show last night. This is our 17th consecutive year in the playoffs. Quite a accomplishment considering our records the prior 17 years. Hope it's a clean & injury free game for both sides!

Shelby has never played Franklin before.

Franklin's RB is the best Brevard faced all year. He's a very tough runner.

That being said.....Shelby could compete and possibly win the 4A championship this year.
Don't know about that but thanks for the compliment.

pffffft

Theyre good for 3A/3AA because 3A weaker than wet paper this year.

They're not getting passed the 2nd round in 4A, going through Kannapolis(who Shelby has never beat even when they were both 3A), Dudley, Catholic, East Forsyth, and Scotland would never happen.

Take Scotland out and they MIGHT get to the 4A lEast LOL!!

Last years Shelby team I would put up against any of those.Only loss was to 3AA Crest by a TD who won state by 40.I have seen how Catholic did against lesser Crest teams so I really wanted worry about them.

Not gonna bother with asking what Shelby's strengths are. I think the quicker to answer question is what is the weakness if any?

I'd speculate them going out 1st or 2nd round in the west and maybe third in the least side.

Dear Lord no, they would not beat those teams lmao. But they are good and will win the state title in convincing fashion. Same with Reidsville.

The offense is good but we did lose our starting rb who was really good. Our defense is good but did have a few breakdowns against Crest.

Come on man. Hate to hear about the RB but Shelby probably has about 20 guys walking the halls they could say "hey come play RB" and he would be better than 80% of the rest of 2a. You're sandbagging SHS LION, your defense is ridiculous.

Chopper you old dog !

It's like you are waiting to pounce any chance you get but I get tickled when you post lol

Gotta keep you yahoos humble. Now go worry about winning the 2AA. Im hoping your lions or the redhawks will keep the trophy in the 704.

Kid is 24 yds short of 2000. Would love to see him get it no matter what happens. He's only a jr so we get 1 more year if healthy.

If you say so. SHS Lion does sugarcoat things too much. No doubt we hang with anyone in the state....no doubt last year too. Pretty sure btango would even tell you that. Our defense keeps us in any game this year and our offense with Jayden Borders is gonna get at least a few scores on anybody. I'd have you to back to the 7 on 7s. It took overtime for the Creek to beat us. You say that doesn't involve the trenches....ok, well the best part of our defense is our front 7. Our secondary took them to overtime....I'd love to see what our entire defense would do. We've played Kannapolis 3 times. 2 of those were about 5 years ago when we had a brand new head coach transitioning to a completely new offense.

Chopper just hates Shelby because of our success. Anything he says against us you have to take with a grain of salt.

Hey Chopper...do you know who the most successful, sustained, winning program is in the history of North Carolina high school football, proven by factual statistics? The only true dynasty in your entire state.....

Envy is a terrible thing to have....glad we never have to worry about that at Shelby.

I see that Franklin comes in at 7-5, but their losses are all to very good teams, and usually close games.
L 28-29 - Asheville
L 57-34 - Erwin
L 40-35 - Brevard
L 29-23 - @Pisgah
L 24-8 - Tuscola

They are 5-1 on the road, so definitely won't be intimidated.

I'm enjoying Shelby getting to play some teams they have never faced before (N Surry last week)

There are probably no more different teams than Franklin and Shelby. In demographics and style of play.

The Franklin RB was a very good player and tough to bring down. Of course my Cougars defense couldnt tackle 10 year olds, but he was still quite impressive.

Franklin was three plays from being 9-2 and conference champs on the 2-A side. Just didn't get the breaks we get most years.

We have a solid line, an effective running back who is hard nosed, and a quarterback who has a good arm and a good ability to keep plays going whether he scrambles or finds a receiver open late in the play. On the defensive side, we are generally technically sound but we lack the kind of team speed that is needed to be real effective against speedy offenses.

Last year Shelby faced a ton of great RBs:
Forestview - Moe Neal (Syracuse)
AC Reynolds - Rico Dowdle (South Carolina)
Freedom - B.J. Emmons (Alabama)
Crest - Tre Harbison (Virginia/No. Illinois)
Lincolnton - Tarus Dameron (Hampton)

This year Shelby hasn't really played against any RBs of the caliber of the 5 above - so will be interesting to see how Shelby's D looks against Franklin's running game.

Our RB who we are missing last year as a sophomore ran for nearly 700 yds in the third rd,fourth rd western championship and state championship games combined.

#14 only played 5 games this year and had 603 yards from scrimmage and 11 TDs. Even though he only played 5 games, he remains Shelby's leading rusher for the season through 12 games. He should be passed this week if #13 gets 5+ yards. I do like what I've seen from the trifecta of #13, #7, and #24. They all bring something different.

Lol....I'd say it'll be a bad Friday for Franklin.....SHS you know the only time this game will be close is right before kick off....when the score is 0-0
We will see 9496 as Franklin does have a big time running back.

Brock's a great kid and a very good back but I certainly wouldn't put him in the category of the backs you played last year. That's no offense to him but I'm a realist. This is not a good matchup for Franklin period. Like I said above the kids will play hard and to the the end but the Crest poster is probably correct.

No disrespect but I wouldn't put Franklin's RB in the same group as Moe Neal, not even close. I was at the game Friday at SC he is good not taking away from his 2000 yard season. But he didn't do the damage to SC, it was the FB trap that got them. SC doesn't have near the speed that shelby does and for the most part SC offense did what they wanted between the 20s. Minus a few penalties that took them out of field goal range before halftime and a fumble in the end zone, the score wouldn't have been close. But the RB is a downhill runner and is quick to hit the hole. I don't see this one being close unless shelby doesn't show up. Too much speed. Shelby 42-17

Not sure if you've read the posts in this thread & I'm not going to start a Franklin vs SC thread in a Shelby thread. Couple of things though. No Franklin poster has been in this thread beating their chest. That running back that "didn't do the damage to SC" had a 174 yds rushing with 3 tds.(2 rushing 1 rec) Franklin beat SC in the game SC didn't beat SC. If you see things differently, I guess we can agree to disagree!

one of my favorite threads was the Burns/Franklin thread a few years ago. I laughed every 10 minutes it seemed. I know quite a few Franklin ppl and worked there for a year, nice area..safe travels

I believe the biggest matchup in this game will be the Franklin offense vs. Shelby defense:

Here are the stats - something has to give:

Franklin Rushing Offense:
565 - 2,888 - 38 TD
47 - 241 - 3.2 TD per game
5.11 yds/carry

Shelby Rushing Defense:
373-605 - 6 TD
31 - 50 - 0.5 TD per game
1.62 yds/carry

Franklin Passing Offense:
129 - 217 - 1,661, 11 TD / 6 Int, 59.45%
138.4 yds/game

Shelby Passing Defense:
83 - 203 - 834, 6 TD / 14 Int, 40.9%
69.5 yds/game

Franklin Offense:
365 points
30.4 PPG

Shelby Defense:
102 points
8.5 PPG

  • All this sucks!!! Y'all just call Jay Gruden and tell him that Shelby High School from North Carolina is going down to Dallas tomorrow to play the Cowboys. The Redskins can just stay home and eat turkey with their families! And the Cowboys better get ready for a whipping from the Golden Lions!
