Franklin coach calls out Christ School

I agree with what is being said but I don’t see a solution... it’s two different organizations, that have different rules. I think it’s crap, but us public schoolers just might have to sit and gobble it down.

Not taking sides here, but how many schools in the area play them, I truly do not know. But down our way we had a similar team that always wanted to play the public schools and finally the schools said the only way they would play them was not use reclassified players. Well guess what they did, because they needed games they changed. OBTW, it was not just football.

I know Asheville biggest lineman 6 foot 5 290 transferred there not too long ago and we were really counting on him this season.

I was told by an asheville middle school coach 2 years ago that the best player he had seen since Crezdon butler to come through Asheville middle was going to Christ school.
He should be a sophomore for us this year.

Something is going on where you for some reason have a rapid growing number of area players leaving to suddenly go to Christ school.

I’m sure the education is tempting to go get at a private school but I can’t imagine playing in front of 83 people on Saturday’s is something any of those players look forward to.

With all those players who have transferred in, they should dominate the private league and I bet you they wont

Rules say Christ School can’t contact a player first. The player has to contact them. I call Bs. Every since that “one guy” got there... players been flying to CS.

Christ school is also recruiting baseball players. I know for a fact that their head coach tried to recruit one of our players a couple of years ago. Carolina Day is just as bad for recruiting girls and boys basketball players.

Yes things at Christ School have really picked up momentum with transfers in the last 3 - 4 years. Specifically football transfers. What or who affiliated with the school in this time frame has changed? Your answer is “politically correct” money rules politics and now unfortunately is starting to rule WNC football

Take a look at Christ School's QB...you should be able to put 2 and 2 together from there.

Why is everyone tiptoeing around the fact that Heath Shuler is an assistant coach for the Greenies?

Does any other football program in WNC have an Assistant Coach that played in the NFL?

Personally, I can't think of any, but that has to be a big lure for area high school atheletes and especially their parents to get an opportunity to play at a school where a former NFL player can give the type of advice and coaching that local kids can't get elsewhere.....

I don't think that it's any coincidence that kids are suddenly more interested in attending Christ School....Heath Shuler is the obvious reason IMO.....

I don’t think many 17 year old kids know who heath shuler is. He’s not even the head coach either.

Robbinsville has had them on the schedule the past few years. Hendersonville has played them in the recent past. That is about the only ones I remember. While they have improved tremendously, I don't think that they can compete yet with the majority of public school teams. The public schools teams that are really cutting their throat playing them are baseball. They're pretty aggressive there.

Heath doesn't even register on the radar with these kids. He's a local legend but this generation has little to no clue now. The selling point is this is essentially HS redshirting. The parents are paying for an extra year of HS football to allegedly up the boy's college FB viability.

I can't blame the two Buncombe Co. kids who tore their knees up. It makes all the sense in the world to buy back a year, maybe even if they aren't going to have a college career. You are giving up years of bonds built with teammates and classmates in trade.

We're going to see more of this and there is nothing the public schools can do to stop it.

That's true, but their parents probably do know who Heath is because he was also a local Congressman as well as a NFL QB....I do agree with Blue Vols though that the bigger benefit for the kids is the ability to reclassify, and improve their chances of landing a college football scholarship....And I also agree that it is a big reprieve that a kid who gets hurt, can reclassify to give himself a second chance to impress recruiters, and still manage to get a chance to play college football in spite of an injury late in his high school career....Christ School essentially has the ability to Redshirt kids whereas public High Schools do not have the ability to do this which in turns makes The Christ School an attractive alternative for parents, and their talented kids, and that realization as Blue Vols noted above is likely to increase, and not diminish in the future....

Think that the 30,000 dollars per year scholarship might have something to do with it.

i support Coach Brooks but agree it will be difficult to stop. Regardless of the quality of of the team CS puts on the field they are a large fish in a small pond.

Christ school new coach is from img academy national powerhouse. Look for the recruited to slow down in the mtn in couple years, he will be getting talent from all over the southeast. I look for them to become the top football program in nc.

I think a lot of the players who transfer there see how difficult is to get recruited at fair value in WNC if you're not playing for a well known program that gets kids to college annually. Same thing is going on down here with Hough taking kids from the area but they are public, they have kids who have D1 offers that don't even start but because coaches are there at every practice and the competition is what it is they are able to get noticed better. CS is a great opportunity for the talent of WNC to get recognized even though it does hurt public schools and I get that. But coaches from UNC, Tennessee, State, South Carolina and Clemson aren't exactly lining up to go watch Franklin or West Henderson practice.

When has Christ school had a big time recruit? Honest question.
If it’s about that, Asheville has put multiple guys in the NFL the last 10 years and dozens into good colleges. Not just small colleges either.

The education and the extra year of eligibility is the thing I see drawing the players to Arden, not necerassilt the quality of football

Christ school has a big time coach now, they are taking football serious now. Look at their basketball program , they would beat any mtn team by 40 pts every year. Look how fast Christ school is improving, they are one of the better teams in wnc already. You say why would a top recruit , want to play at Christ school, they have couple coaches with nfl experience, their head coach trains nfl players now. Look at charlotte Christian, charlotte Latin both of them can beat any team in the mtns, and Christ school has some advantages over them. I am not a fan of Christ school, just speaking the truth.

I said “when has Christ school had a big time football recruit?” Nobody is talking about basketball

I don’t think they have a advantage on Charlotte Christian. CC did beat them 56-6 last year I believe.

Being a Franklin fan but not living in town or being connected to the program the article is all I have to go by. After reading it I would say BlueVols post about the extra year of playing time is the enticement from the family side. My big issue is the rules states the program can't contact the family, if the coach is contacted, the family should immediately be referred to admissions, ect. That is clearly not happening. Coaches are actively recruiting these kids. The article quotes the Franklin kids father who says this. This issue needs to be addressed and the rules need to be enforced.

What I'm saying is that more kids are going to start making the move because of what the coaches can offer which is a relationship with college coaches that other coaches in the area might not have. If all the talent in the area is going to one place why wouldn't a top player want to put themselves in that competitive environment? Sort of how kids in the greater charlotte area transfer to the creek or hough

Christ School added lights to the Stadium just a few short years ago after resisting that urge since football began for the Greenies....Now, the lights are about to get even brighter with what they are building....They will have to upgrade their facilities and their schedule which I think they will to get even more exposure and media coverage....Kids nowadays want to play with other talented kids, and now that the opportunity floodgates have opened, it may be hard for local coaches to keep their most talented player with Christ School being able to offer an extra year of eligibility, a chance to practice and play against other talented atheletes, more opportunities for Colleges to see him and recruit him, better educational opportunities to better prepare for college, being coached by coaches with multiple College and NFl ties....

Agree with others above that Christ School is fixing to take a giant leap forward in football as they did a few years ago in basketball when the Plumlee boys and other talented kids starting making their way to Arden....

I'm curious to see how future scheduling by WNC teams with the Christ School will change?......The Greenies will likely need to upgrade their schedule to challenge this new collection of talented kids that they are bringing to Arden....

I think Pisgah has stopped playing CS in baseball because of the recruiting. Don’t think they would ever play them in football either.

Most public schools in WNC would put an absolute major butt-whipping on CS. They have no depth.

Will they improve? Probably so but to rank them 6th this year in WNC in the AC-T preseason is laughable and shows how absolutely devastating the loss of Andrew Pearson was to that paper.

Just wait until this coach starts getting guys from out of state and starts moving down towards the Charlotte area to pick off some guys

I disagree they can play with anyone in wnc

I agree about Andrew Pearson. He did a really good job covering all of the schools in the mountains. I saw him at games all the the time. IMO, the huddle talks/features way too much about the private schools now. I could care less what they do or accomplish.

Doubt that will ever happen. Kids in the 704 can choose Christian, Latin, Providence Day, hell even Mallard Creek, Hough, Butler, Vance etc etc and get MUCH MUCH EXPOSURE than going to Christ School. Lets see Christ School schedule a game with Mallard Creek, Catholic, and get ran off the field

There is great talent all over the Charlotte metro, D1 talent at numerous schools.

I can’t imagine any scenario where Christ school would start playing any powerhouses from the Charlotte area. Charlotte Christian beat them 52-6 last year in the playoffs and I’m sure there are 5–8 other schools that could in the 704 as well. Christ school is a nice school. Nice campus. Good education. But a football school they are not.
