What is going on with football in the state capital area? There is no reason that the largest area in the state can not win a state championship. Every year Wake County/area teams can not compete on a state -wide level. Is it the fact that there are so many schools that are being built in Wake that the talent has become so spread out? The schools in those areas have to better. They should do better. I guess things like soccer, rugby, swimming, tennis are more important.!!??? Not to put any one down but it should be an embarrassment to the football coaches in that area.

I WAS NOT AWARE THEY PLAY FOOTBALL< THUS THE FOLLOWING

the sad part is wake county recruits within the rules of magnet schools. garner has been the consistent program in that area that usually goes deep in playoffs. wake forest has been pretty consistent over the last 8 years or so.

Just an idea here, and it relates to emphasis and geography. There is no ACC basketball team in Mecklenburg County. Mecklenburg and surrounding counties border South Carolina where there is a greater emphasis on high school and collegiate football.

Perhaps football is more important in the Charlotte area than the Triangle. Just an idea.

Wake Forest played Mallard Creek to a two score game. If they scored on the blocked punt possession we may not be talking about a possible three peat. The MC defensive stop there was the momentum changer.

7 of the 10 largest high schools in the state are in Wake Co, so the talent is spread out, but not as much as it is everywhere else in the state.

Interestingly enough, Wake Forest is not one of those 7 schools. In fact, they are one of the smaller 4AA schools, and are not too far above the cutoff line for going small every year.

To expand on the earlier post, I think the problem in Wake Co is a mismatch in personnel and coaches. The few schools who would love to get with this century don't have the horses to do so (Wakefield, for example). The schools that DO have the horses are all stuck in the 1950s (Wake Forest, for example).

If a forward thinking Wake Co coach ever ended up at one of those big schools, he could make all kinds of noise. As it is, we have a bunch of square pegs in round holes.

That is what it comes down to. Wake County would do well with a TK coming through the area. I mean Wake Forest has a 4* RB, a 5* DT and a likely highly rated DT/DE playing for them. That was obviously good enough to run through the East but couldn't make enough plays in the big game.

If Mark Barnes went to Enloe, they'd take over the state in no time. Enloe has 25% more kids to build a team around than Mallard Creek does, if anyone ever took an interest in getting their hands dirty.

OH...They all have horses...What they need are thoroughbreds and good trainers. The problem in Wake County is it is hard to get in and so political. Who wants to coach in a system like that? The coaches they do have are no good. Name me one, State recognized, coach in that county. Wake has so many problems.

Wakefield will never compete not because of a lack of horses, they dont want the thoroughbreds in their school...If you know what I mean???

Wake Forest had a good season, but they are few and far between.

There are actually more high schools in the Charlotte Meck area than in the Raleigh Wake area so that cannot be the reason.

Name me the coaches you say are no good. What do you base your opinion on. How many of these no good coaches have you ever coached with?

Wake has a larger student enrollment, a couple more public schools, but also a larger enrollment average per school. One place Wake County does not see as much football success or losing players to as in Meck County are the privates which are loaded. Christian, Providence Day, Country Day, Latin, Davidson Day, Victory Christian, Southlake Christian. Some serious talent at those schools. Throw in Catholic in the NCHSAA. Wake has Ravenscroft and Cardinal Gibbons. CG is the Parochial like Catholic.

Actually, that's not true.

Fairly certain Wake County is largest system in the state. And that was before the extra surge that has been going on past few years.

hockey, lacrosse and baseball have hit it bigggg with wake county youth

those sports have taken away the "grinders" that do the dirty work and want to do the dirty work

the only teams in wake county that have the "grinders" that every one of the meck schools all seem to have are:

garner and wake forest

wake county has some athletes. the offensive and defensive lines are very average, small lazy, fat, slow and out of shape

no athletic, powerful lines. except at:

garner and wake forest

soccer and basketball is first at most schools in wake county except for:

garner and wake forest

theres a pattern here

What Wake Co needs is a fire breather to come into one of those schools and energize the fan base.
