First Draft of New Conferences

Getting 5 non conference games are not easy. Even harder for teams that has had success like E. Surry
Then, Mount Airy West Stokes & Walkertown will have a hard time if that is your thoughts. It is going to be a tough conference.

I don’t disagree with that, but Walkertown and W. Stokes will be a little easier being closer to the triad and more options from a travel standpoint.

When that happened nearly 20 years ago, did that conference look more like this new proposed conference or the current one? I think Tarboro being in anyone's conference in football should be a concern for their coach.

Just pointing out, there could be other effects by all these split conferences for playoffs. There is also a .500 record rule or something that applies to classification representation from split conferences. Someone here may know it. It has been posted before relating to Polk County a year or two back.
Back in the day, Tarboro was out here like, 'Who let the dogs out?' against a squad that could actually play ball! It was basically 'Friday Night Lights' but with more cornbread and less drama! But now, with this new conference setup, the coaches are probably like, 'Please don’t get hurt – we ain't ready for that!

Back in the day as you call it Tarboro was still winning regularly in their conference. Sure since they been in 1a the conference has been weak for the most part but when Tarboro was 2a they were winning pretty regularly 🥱🤷‍♀️

It was posted on 1A and 2A Boards because most of the same size schools are currently in the 1a and 2A classes.

I could have posted in 3a and 4a but I doubt ES would want to play schools that large.

But East Surry and Mount Airy will be in a 3A/4A conference, and should they want to play down all five of their games? It might be good for them to play down since they will be in a tougher NWC than they have been. Usually only 2 top teams and may be 3 or 4 now.

So like, back in the day Tarboro was vibing in 2A, flexing wins while the competition was kinda like that one cousin you only invite to family reunions for the snacks! But now that they're in 1A, don’t just throw shade like it's a 90's meme, other teams got their act together too! The struggle is real for everyone, even those 'powerhouses' who thought they could just show up in their letterman jackets and win!

Don't get confused but those teams on the 3a-4a board right now will be 5-6a next year
I did hear MA was looking at Watauga for a game. That would be tough for a 3a against a 7a

I'd guarantee Mt airy will schedule East Surry and Starmount it seems some teams have ran out like our good ole buddy's at Reidsville come on dude's you all kill us for maybe year 4a get real

I think Watauga will be 6a. Still a big school that's been pretty good lately.

In the early to mid 2000's when Thomasville and Albemarle were both really good and winning the states back to back. They would have to play teams like Davie, W Forsyth, N Davidson, Glenn, Tabor and others because the smaller schools would not play them. I know a lot of the schools began scheduling off of the first draft so I would assume not many changes are coming on the next draft?

I honestly don’t get why the smaller 1 and 2 A schools complain about the numbers. You are talking maybe 100-200 difference in the ADM vs some of the larger 4A schools having over a 1,000 difference in ADM.

The larger classifications facing that big of a gap are really the only ones that have a complaint, imo. A few hundreds vs thousands is small fish.
Well there’s a lot of things in play here that you obviously know nothing about, but I’ll start with this…if you have 1500+ in your school and can’t field a decent team, you either lack tradition or coaching! You have the bodies, don’t have to play both ways, 2/3 deep at every position. As I’ve mentioned before, we do pretty good with what we have out of 330 kids. We average about 30 on the roster a year. Whereas, if we had 650 kids, we’d probably average 60! That’s a huge difference!

The biggest differences seem to to be in the current 1A and 4A. This new alignment should lessen that for all schools. Some outliers just get stuck because they may be the only 1A school in their county or area. I agree, any school with 1500+ kids should be able to field a competitive team in about every sport. A school with 350 kids will only have about 50-75 kids between boys and girls that play sports. Versus 1500, should have a minimum of 150-200.
