First Draft of New Conferences

It’s been nearly 20 years since Tarboro lost three conference games in a season. That might be a concern for other programs.
When that happened nearly 20 years ago, did that conference look more like this new proposed conference or the current one? I think Tarboro being in anyone's conference in football should be a concern for their coach.

Just pointing out, there could be other effects by all these split conferences for playoffs. There is also a .500 record rule or something that applies to classification representation from split conferences. Someone here may know it. It has been posted before relating to Polk County a year or two back.

Quit picking on us..😁
sorry mood GIF

It seems to me that if 4A Forbush and Wilkes Central were moved to the 6 team Northwest you would have 4 3A's AND 4 4A'S and would take the present 9 team 2A-3A-4A conference to 7 teams. Both conferences would be more balanced, in my opinion, the Old Northwest every team would be at most 1 county away from their home base with the exception to West Stokes to Wilkes Central.

Walkertown to Wilkes Central may be a bit longer drive.

I still believe the greater Sandhills could be split up like this:

7A/8A
Pinecrest
Hoke
Richmond
Jack Britt
Lumberton
Purnell Swett

6A/7A
Pine Forest
Overhills
Cape Fear
Terry Sanford
EE Smith
Westover

5A/6A
St Pauls
Douglas Byrd
South View
Gray's Creek
Scotland
71st

It wouldn't be so constricting plus there would be a better chance to build RPI up for playoffs

Nine-team conferences (single-class or split) seem to be a growing nuisance ... Here's hoping that the NCHSAA will extend the football regular season to 11 games ...

I can see a variation or two on this ... Three six-team conferences make much more sense than two -nine-team conferences!!!

I don't think any conference should be over 6 or 7 teams which gives the teams 3 or 4 non-conference games to play and not count against the conference championship. If 7 teams the go back to the 11 game season.
That's an opportunity because they're going back to 32 team brackets

I hope to see a second draft in early January to mid-January, which is a month that should give plenty of time to keep or make changes and give schools time to find their non-conference games. It may take much longer to find schools willing to play some of the schools with better records every year. It may not happen by mid-January since the NCHSAA will not return to the office until after January 1st.

that .500 rule you talkin’ 'bout is real important. It make sure only the squads that perform good get in the playoffs, but it can hurt teams from them tough leagues. Like, if a team goes 5-6 in a rough conference, they might miss the playoffs, but a team with the same record from a weak conference could slide right in.

Actually the .500 rule is just used if that representative from that conference iwould be seeded as a conference champion. If not then the team would be seeded after champions as a wildcard. But that is under the system we currently use. Who knows about next season 🤷‍♂️
