Erwin qb passes for 690 yards and breaks state record..

Tyler Brosius is the best qb I've seen in the nc mountains in the 20th century. Crompton included

Yea I never understood how he wasn't a star in college. He was a damn gun slinger, crompton looked too mechanical and more worried about getting his jersey dirty.

I never understood how Asheville high has never had a natural qb in decades. We've had good athletes that played qb, but we have never had a single guy who played quarterback since he was 8 and was a college qb recruit. We always have good athletes playing qb that can't hit the broad side of a barn with a pass.

What are you talking about Michael Bryd killed us. Not Johnny or Czendon but Michael. I'm guessing you're saying strictly pocket passing qb

We have never had a qb who was a natural qb. We have always had great athletes plugged into that spot. Michael Byrd was never going to college to be a qb. Also Crezdon and Johnny were sophomores, Byrd was a senior, so naturally he had a greater impact. That was a weird game champ

I don't know why people are hung up on his attempts that game. It is no secret that Erwin is a pass first team. They have been for years. In order to get crazy yards like that you have to sling the ball a lot. I watched Brosius play and he was a very good qb but talent wise I thought Crompton was better. I may be biased because he played for and was a Erwin boy. As for Ferguson he always talks about his team first and I doubt he cares how many attempts he has a game.

I agree. I was impress with his passing. He hit Czendon on a wheel route right before I knocked Czendon to the ground. Whatever happened to him

Well Byrd never played a down of college football despite being one of the best athletes to come out of wnc in the 21st century (grades) and Crezdon recently got waived by the Detroit Lions

Byrd didnt go to college??? Im shocked. Most under rated talent I played against. Reminded me so much of a bigger version of Cooter Arnold

Whatever happened to Zach Jaynes (I believe that was his name) the 2006 Pisgah QB???? Went to Western didn't he?

He was a pretty darn good QB that year I thought...

What is your problem with Erwin. I said they had one of the hardest schedules in the state and definitely the best in wnc. When the worst team we play in the first 6 games is probably Franklin, you know the schedule is pretty brutal. I don't care about records. Reynolds is 1-2 and arguably the best team in WNC. I don't have a problem with you but you bash other teams and kids when you wont even say who you support Jumbob.

1st, I don't have a problem with Erwin, they have a fine team and program. I've known Mike Sexton for going on 30 years and admire him. Doesn't mean I can't disagree and be honest about your schedule.

2nd, you said "I seriously doubt any teams in the state have had a harder stretch of games" and I disagree. Butler, Mallard Creek, and a bunch of others have played a tougher schedule, although yours might possibly be the toughest in WNC (ACR has played Shelby and West Forsyth, so I don't even know if I'd go there).

3rd, I haven't bashed Erwin or their kids. Even when I was giving Tuscola grief it was their fans I was hassling, not the kids. Let go of the hyperbole, I'm not insulting your team.

Love it when people talk about TN football without having a clue and doing more research.Do you even know anything about Riverdale or the schools they lost to.

Riverdale: 7-6 record last year (lost 54-7 in the 1st round of the playoffs), 1-2 record this year. Are you really impressed by 8-8 over the last 16 games?

Not to mention that Riverdale is 21-17 over the past 4 years with 2 playoff wins. Maybe I'm just not getting how magical that record is, but you seem convinced that they're some kind of powerhouse.

Oh, and the teams that beat Riverdale were 1-1 Blackman (whose other game was a 49-10 loss) and 2-1 Franklin, a team that has not had more than 8 wins in a single season since 2010 and a total of 2 playoff wins since 2010. If only I had researched how dominant these teams were before posting....

FYI, I've seen a lot of eastern TN football over the years, I've also seen a lot of Charlotte/Cleveland County/Greensboro/Scotland/Richmond football. Maryville is pretty much the only eastern school that could compete with those NC schools.

i remember the brosius kid he was a big strong armed qb. i think ferguson is better

I have to disagree on that one. Brosius was an absolute stud. He led his team to the Western Regional Championship where the lost to an absolutely loaded West Rowan team. Brosius definitely is more talented than Ferguson, and it looks like his teams will have more success as well. Brosius also got drafted to play baseball too after leaving NC State.

No worries Jumbob. Erwin has taken a lot of heat after the Heritage loss and deservedly so. A lot of us fans are on the defensive because we still realize we have one of the best teams in WNC if they play that way. Right now Erwin has a major issue on defense and it is hurting them. As for Schedule Reynolds definitely has the 2nd hardest schedule in the Mtns. The difference is they have only have two good teams non conference and Erwin has five. The Warriors get no breaks and then play Reynolds after that. It sucks playing 6 games before you get a little bit of a breather.

The difference in the two is really size. Brosuis is a taller qb and college's always look at that. Damien is much more elusive though.

He was a very good qb as well. He went to WNC and I never really heard much from him after that.

Garett Brown from Erwin was a very good one as well. He had over 5,000 yards his senior year and was the only qb I can ever remember to not get sacked in a game all season till Erwin's last game vs Crest. He was all heart..

Personally, I think both the Brown's were better than Ferguson. I think Ferguson is one heck of a player and the best QB in the mountains this year, but those guys really help put Erwin Football on the map.

I agree...

Tyler Brosius was without question the best of the 4 qbs we are discussing and it's not even close. In order for me it would be

Tyler Brosius
Garrett brown
Austin brown
Damien Ferguson.

Ferguson will break the all time wnc passing record and be the 3rd best qb at Erwin the last 7 years.

Brosius was a legit division one shrine bowl qb who made his entire team. You take Brosius off that 09 team they would have been 5-6. He was big, tall and had a huge arm with great pocket presence. That performance he had against hibriten and west Rowan who had a 30 game winning streak was special.

Just curious if anyone knows the state record for career all time yards and the national one as well?

Career: 15,593 Chris Leak (NC)
Season: 5,193 Chris Leak (NC)
National Records
Career: 18,932 Maty Mauk Kenton, OH
Game: 787 Matt Miller DuBois (PA)
Season: 6540 Ben Mauk Kenton, OH

That is unreal. You have to figure he went to the state title game every season so you have to add in all those extra games. He is the best high school player I have ever seen in person and I have seen a lot.

Yes, he was very good. I know when Leak played at Indy they were the bell cow in HS football in NC. I saw Heath Shuler play in HS and he was unreal. Carl Pickens was the best player I ever saw in HS.

I think Rico Dowdle last year at ACR is in my top 5 also. He is just an incredible athlete and just has a motor that doesn't stop.

Rico might be the best player I ever seen play in WNC hi senior season but I never considered him as a qb. He was just the first to get his hands on the ball every play.

I absolutely agree that Erwin is one of the best in WNC. Lots of offensive weapons, my comments were not intended to criticize the players or coaches in any way at all. I'm gonna wish you guys the best of luck the rest of the year and in the playoffs and then just sit quietly for a while.

talking of all time great players. im biased i know but rico was the best player ever to suit up at reynolds high school hands down . i have seen sum great players though jimmy streater was amazing at sylva webster . david singleton at pisgah . he looked like he was shot out of a cannon when he wud explode up th middle out of the box out there. butler and johnny white at asheville . john avery was blistering at asheville high too.

Thanks for info on Jaynes

Back in 94 we played at pisgah ! We made the trip up there and I remember it seemed like they handed the ball to a fella named Leatherwood every play ! They ran it at will in the second half and beat us in the playoffs .... I had worst bout of pneumonia I ever had that Friday but went anyway ! The drive home was miserable on several levels ha ha ha

I agree, he wasn't a QB. Coach Laws wanted to get him as many touches as possible and that worked out great. He is an exceptional athlete. Good kid too. Love his family.

Rico was an incredible athlete... Our game last year, was an absolute blast to watch.... There were several runs I swear it seemed like it took all 11 players to hit him before he'd ever go down... Hope he has a stellar college career....

He has been hurt with a pulled groin. His mom said tonight that he would be back next week.
