East vs West 1-A thru 4-A "Predictions"

Big Football Weekend:
1-A Tarboro vs Corvian Comm.
2-A NorthEastern vs Monroe
3-A Fayetteville 71st vs West Charlotte
4-A Rolesville vs Grimsley

My picks:
Tarboro
Monroe
West Charlotte
Grimsley

College Playoffs start Friday Night: Indiana @ Notre Dame
NFL is Saturday & Sunday right up to the SuperBowl
Those picks all look good to me. Tarboro seems to be on a mission this season and I think Corvian gets smacked by reality this weekend. Monroe and West Charlotte both look unstoppable this season. And I believe the actual 4A title game was last Friday with Weddington and Grimsley. They would both beat Rolesville.

I’ll don’t believe Weddington beats Hough or Rolesville.

Corvian Community becomes the first charter school to reach NCHSAA state championship game. Less than a block away from Mallard Creek High School. Incredible accomplishment.
They can recruit and get anyone in. Then they are playing 1A. They should be in 2A IMHO especially in basketball. The prep/Charter schools are mini sports factories with no boundaries and controlled enrollment. They should have their separate playoffs along with Parochial schools. As they continue to grow their football program they will become to dominate for 1A and folks will complain. Right now they are getting MC low end players which are great players on this level.

Covian is real interesting, they might give Tarboro all they can handle and I almost picked them. Six of their skilled players were on that Runner-Up State Championship Basketball Team last year. They have a very big team as well for 1-A...very Athletic. Mt Airy folks around here know...

Dont think folks understand the talent Corvian has or can get.

Question for anyone willing to answer: Why aren't more people picking 71st? If you look at schedules they are very similar. WC conference has two very good teams this year in MC and Hough both of which WC lost to. The rest of the conference finished .500 or below. WC two non-conference games were against Palisades and Cox Mill, Palisades was good and made the playoffs, Cox Mill was terrible this year. 71st finished undefeated in their conference and they have some really solid teams in their conference as well. From Jack Britt and Cape Fear to South View. Their two non-conference games were against Richmond who's season ended at 10-3 in the 3rd round of the 4A playoffs and Pine Forest who finished 5-6.

As far as playoffs go neither team really played anybody until round 3. WC soundly defeating Dudley who had not lost until that point was impressive. Both teams round 5 matchups were legit 71st vs Jacksonville and WC vs Hickory. Jacksonville was 12-1 coming into the game and they are always well coached and a tough out and 71st handled them like no one else had this year. WC was in a back and forth with Hickory for a little while until they settled in and took over.

I think this game is about as even as it gets. This should be a very exciting game to watch.

I did not know he was hurt, had not heard that
Even before he was hurt, one of the problems that a lot of teams face, when playing inferior competition during the season, everything works. So as a coaching staff, there’s really not a need to make adjustments. What happens when you face a program that have the same athletes collectively, and your favorite plays are snuffed out, or the opponent’s defense is faster and stronger than what you’ve experienced previously. Can your coaching staff figure it out and make the adjustments❓🤷🏾‍♂️. Hickory’s staff could not!

Coach McLaurin is a good coach and his staff is obviously pretty good. They have made decent runs before and been knocking on the door for awhile. Last year the game between 71st and Hickory was decided by 7 points. Both staffs did a good job of adjusting, at the end Hickory made a couple plays that 71st did not.

Coach played with my younger brother at 71st, so I’m very much familiar with his ability as a coach. That was last year. This is now. Hickory couldn’t make the adjustments this year. That’s why 71st is playing Weat Charlotte. I’m hoping for an exciting game, but it’s going to be tough for 71st without their QB. He’s been forced to make adjustments early. We’ll see what happens.

Last week I picked Grimsley over Weddington due to Grimsley playing at home. This week Grimsley is playing away from Jamieson stadium. Rolesvile 37-34.

I don't know much about 71st competition, but that was definitely Dudley's problem against WC. They've played no one all year and haven't really had to make any adjustments. This Dudley team was not 26 points worse than WC (although I do think WC was the better team overall). When you're not challenged at all during the season and face a great opponent, you end up getting punched in the mouth, down by 2 tds, and then you start panicking.

Grimsley did beat Rolesville at Roseville earlier this season by 15. Both teams have gotten better. I'm not sure playing way from Jamieson stadium is going to play a factor in this game.

Big Football Weekend:

2-A NorthEastern vs Monroe
3-A Fayetteville 71st vs West Charlotte
4-A Rolesville vs Grimsley

Give me

I picked 71st before I knew the QB was hurt to beat West Charlotte. It's very disappointing to learn of his injury. Going back and looking at the game film it might not have made much difference but I would have pulled him after they got up 28 to 0. That's a pretty good working margin. I guess the extent of injury was not known till well after the game but still. They must have a ton of confidence in the offensive line to protect him from even getting hit because watching the film he clearly couldn't move at all back there, not at all.
Im from the east but to answer your question as to why nobody picking 71st even with healthy QB is just plain west dominance for the last 25 years. I admit the west is almost always better but 71st with healthy QB is not your typical eastern pushover. They have a great mix of size, speed, and strength. Great rushing attack and good short and medium yard passing game. Only thing missing is a weak deep ball passing game. They also have a very stingy defense. With the QB healthy I take 71st. Without him I take West Charlotte but I do think 71st keeps it close but that QB is just too much of a loss to overcome. To make it worse I'm hearing another key starter was hurt against Jacksonville and won't be available for Saturday as well. I'm hearing huge RB/LB #9 is out as well. This is the equivalent of had Hickory gone into last week game against WC with Stober and Lackey unable to play.

Unless the gridiron event matriculates into a hardwood contest , Tarboro should be OK. Tarboro by 22.

You all are severely underrating WC. Dudley's issue wasn't schedule as they had just played Robinson the week before and should have had their wakeup call. WC was simply the better team and the better prepared team. When looking at WC don't just think THIS season. This team has been really good the past 2 years but blew two playoff games. They had no true QB. Add in a true QB and they are a top 5 team in the state regardless of classification and could be top 3 next season

-It will be a great game tomorrow no doubt. Just think in two years they beat Monroe, Independence, MC, Chambers, Dudley, and Hickory with 6 shutouts this year and winning at Dudley, at Hickory, and at Erwin. Not sure folks understand just how good this team is right now.

They will play. Gamesmanship at its finest. In 93 an undefeated WC played an undefeated Northern Durham team. Jason Peace was not supposed to play but what happens near halftime? He comes in and takes the game completely over. All week we heard how he was too hurt to play and wouldn't play. Think it really messed up the WC gameplan and also gave his team a moral/mental boost by "gutting" it out.'

Fully expect the 71st QB to play. No Sr QB is going to sit out the state championship game their Sr year after losing it the year before. Both are SR captains too? Fully expect both to play and start.

I hope so. As I said in the 3A post I'm not going of first hand info I am just going off what I've been told by a source. However the rumor has legs. Even one of the guys who runs the eastern NC you tube show grit and grind says he has also heard the rumor but has no official word. The QB was obviously injured though. I saw him limping badly at several points of second half highlights. He could barely walk, much less run, and his running ability is what drives their entire offense. His limp was so bad that I'm shocked they even kept him in the game at all.

If the rumors are true, I don’t see how you replace a QB of his experience with only a week of preparation. Add the RB injury and it’s an even taller task.

As a high school football fan I was hoping for some exciting games this week. I think all football fans (other than WC guys) would hope the 71st QB and RB would be 100%.

Still hoping for some great and exciting games.

QB of course wants to play by all means. But if injury was evaluated after the game and the extent of injury is worse than anticipated or known at the time, the coach has no other choice but to hold the QB out or risk the young man's health and the coaches job as well. Im sure he would play if he COULD, but sometimes you have no choice but to sit him. We will all know for certain in about 20 hours.

After viewing Grimsley takin' it to Rolesville, Mister Honda decides to pull off the main streets of south Charlotte and have yet another big swig of Aqua Velva, then taking an abbreviated " nap " until the Containment Officials arrive and charge him with Disillusionment and Jamieson Envy, both carrying fines up to five hundred toonies, or if residing in the United States, a thousand dollars. Cash only.
