East Lincoln vs Monroe

May been 7 on 7 but i saw it and nobody i said nobody could stay with Borders for Shelby.
Again its 7on7, maybe them redhawks are lazy in summer.

I like the fire of this bunch from Monroe. So I'll side with them in this affair and say that it should be business as usual for the RedHawks. They seem to have the odds in their favor against the Ponies and I doubt Byus has what it takes to break his recent trend against The Roe! It's sure to be a sad night in Pumpkin Center, oh pity.

East Lincoln will show up to play and has great coaches but it will be a tall order. Monroe's strength plays right into their weakness. They just don't have any quality depth up front. Combine that with a young QB and it's a recipe for disaster. Monroe's D front will be in the backfield all night like last year. It's really tough to win that way unless you have an absolutely exceptional QB. East QB will be good but he's a soph and susceptible to pressure. East always has great skill players but have trouble finding enough O-line types particularly when there are injuries. They would have to be able to run the ball really consistently to have a chance.

I think EL's game plan will be keep it on the ground most of the game....and that plays into their young QB's strength who IMO is much more dangerous running the ball than putting it in the air.

EL will still show up, we may have to bring some additional fire power with us, sounds like you need an all star team to match up with these redhawks, will just have to see what happens. Good luck to Monroe, let's go Mustangs.

Pulling for the Mustangs but if I had to bet I'd take Monroe in a close one. But I do think it'll be much more competitive than last year. The EL QB has a lot of needed experience this time around and East's running game has been firing on all cylinders. And Cameron Dollar is a gamer and he'll find a way to keep his team in it. I'll say Monroe 21-17 but hoping I'm wrong.

I honestly believe that #3, Covington, from Monroe is one of the best covering corners i have watched play in a while. I watched him shut down some of the top receivers in the state, and if matched up against Borders, Shelby won't be able to throw to him like they're use to.

I remember that hit on Surratt, he was on a sprint out, changed direction and bam, watching the hit you wouldn't believe he came back in the very next play. Monroe is an aggressive bunch, but if EL comes out and plays like they did against WC I believe Monroe is in for a fight. I have always liked watching the group from Monroe, they play with confidence and play to win, no shame the last two times the Mustangs have fallen to them, they are a solid program. I just believe and call me crazy this group of Mustangs is up for the challenge.

CM3, do you know of any all star teams ?
Isn't it peculiar how teams that should have won couldn't and that team you'd never expect to win just might...So strange.

I think tennvols hit the same spot he did before the EL/Lincolnton game, always an entertaining post from him though, definitely good for a laugh. Back to the game, Monroe is having another impressive season, and looks like a fired up group of young men, but I will say this they do not look like the group we played in 2013 and 2015, those teams looked like small colleges out there, this team has holes, I only hope the Mustangs have enough to expose them. Since we have all the teams on this post, good luck to all you guys. And no Lincolnton I don't know of any all star teams ;)

Hey the best all star team around here is Lincoln Charter's basketball team. I mean we should be good too, but they're loaded!

It's been a sad night in pumpkin center for football for the last 4 or 5 years nothing new there. Think Mustangs have a chance this year but it will be an uphill battle and MUST PLAY SMART AND MUST NOT MAKE MISTAKES!!!

No doubt, tired of reading about them already, pull from 4 different counties and play 1A ball, ridiculous.

As an older East grad their are some of us who were raised in Pumpkin Center though before North Lincoln...

As for the game? If East comes out the way they did against West Caldwell they have a chance. I was so happy with the way they played and finally got over that slow starting bug they have had. Unfortunately, they have come out slow more often than not and can not afford to do that at Monroe. Wish we could get Monroe at home for once...

Watching that hit on Chazz again, I'm just glad that wasn't my guy! Should be a great game, would love to make the trip down if i was leaving from Denver instead of Boone. Hopefully its streamed.

I believe ucpreps.com a local raido station will be broadcasting the game.

I hope the Mustangs can pull this one out. Regardless of the outcome, Byus has had a great run and has my complete respect. I graduated from EL in 2002. I played for Charlie Lloyd(RIP) and Ruark. I remember band members walking the halls talking about how they were the only ones bringing home trophies, not the football team. They were right. So glad the culture has changed in Denver. My brother got to go to a State Championship and we have been able to beat that yellow team down the road a few times. I don't know if the Mustangs can win, but the fact that they are here even after the off season free agent market didn't go their way, is a testament to the coaching ability of that staff. I hope that Byus finds peace and happiness in retirement/coaching somewhere else. I know it can be incredibly disheartening when you do right by your kids, put in extremely long hours, then have them leave on you or not appreciate your effort.

That is a loser mentality, anybody with a competitive bone in their body wants the opportunity, sorry to be rude, but hate hearing crap like that, every coach that started Aug 1st just wants an opportunity for his boys to compete, and when the time is over and IF it ends in defeat, tip your hat and say you and your boys gave it everything you had.
