Warriors are one more bad football team. We have been out scored 247 to 62 in 5 games. We are actually worse than those stats. We have given up 200 of those points in the 1st half of games and have scored most of our points in the 2nd half against 2nd and 3rd stringers and JVs.
No coaching, No effort.
Miserable and embrassing!

It’s just bad... Bad, bad, bad. I expect a running 2nd half clock in 9 of 11 of our games this season. Does no good to complain because this is acceptable at East Gaston. Most secure job in the state as long as you stay out of trouble.

Maybe you guys can pick up a win vs. Chase? The rest of the fan base as upset as you?

I will be surprised if there is not a coaching change next year at EG. Even the poorest of AD's wouldn't let this go on.
Better days ahead I am sure.

We have a new AD, this is his 1st year. I may be wrong, but I think the principal’s in Gaston County make the decisions on head coaches. Unless you have seen EG in person, it’s hard to appreciate just how bad we are, especially on defense. I’ve been watching HS football for 40+ years and this might be the worst defense I have ever seen. I am not exaggerating. I don’t see any way this team will win a game this year. I guess if there is a silver lining, our JVs are 3-2 at this point, with 2 close loses. It's just sad for the community and fans.

Yeah it's getting a little ridiculous and it has gone on far too long. They cannot keep doing the same things year after year and expecting different results.

Statistically this is shaping up to be the worst defense in the history of the school (and that’s saying something). I just don’t believe our players are as bad as be look on Friday nights.

All it takes is getting the right coach in place. I thought y'all had some good players on jv

They have a good bit of talent at the JV level. But it is going to take a good coach to really develop the talent where it needs to be when they get to the varsity level. The new AD maybe can ruffle some feathers. Who knows. It can't get much worse than this.

I hate to say it, but I don't see anything changing.

I think the new AD may be a continuation of the problem..... I base that solely on some of the rumblings I have heard from friends who have kids in sports there.... outside of football as well.

As I mentioned last year after standing with your kids on the sidelines I felt that y’all had a great group of kids that tried hard and left it all on the feild last year. I was impressed with the attitude of the kids some good men I saw. But that was last year also and things change every year I know but I did hope this year would be different for y’all. We struggle also so I know how it feels to loose most football games. Our team this year may not win many games but I have truly been proud of our kid this year (all but last game:( ). Hope things get better for east Gaston

I'm curious to know how much success the current Varsity group has had? It seems as though everyone is saying that the Varsity is going to struggle to win, however there is talent (and a decent record) on JV. Curious to know how much this has to do with coaching versus not having much talent? Did this group compete for middle school championships for example?

From what I have heard from many other places around the state, how many of the assistant coaches are on staff at the school? How many have a football background? There's a lot more that goes in to these analysis than just simply saying there needs to be a coaching change in my experience

Can you explain?

I can speak with high confidence in which the way things have been handled on the soccer team. EG fielded a JV and Varsity soccer team this fall. Injuries have on varsity have forced them to forgo the JV team and pull them up to varsity. Albeit, the majority of the JV kids are not ready for varsity skill wise. Since the move up JV parents have been displeased with the lack of playing time. The new AD has approached the "new coach" (original coach suspended for suspicion of recruiting) pushing him to play the JV players to accommodate all. Thats the 60 second version. It runs much deeper.

The freshman class at EG is loaded. They need direction or it will be wasted. EG typically has far superior athletes and size over SP but never plays them close. They need a change in culture with discipline.

EG has had some success through the years but only when they had adequate coaching. That has not been the case since Greg Lloyd left.

Just in doing some google research, I see that the Muse (sp?) kid who played for South Point a couple years ago blocked a punt in the National Championship game for Clemson and seems to be playing quite a bit. I'm not seeing anything remotely close for East. I could be wrong, but based on a quick search (and state title contentions) it wouldn't seem to me that East Gaston has superior athletes. Or am I missing something?

Muse was a 1 in a generation talent. It's not fair to compare anyone else to him. He's starting for Clemson and will play on Sunday's in 2 years. Outside of him and a few others sprinkled in over the years SP does not produce many D1 level guys. We have had MANY who were a few inches short and a few pounds away from being there. Most of our kids end up at the likes of LR, Gardner Webb, Wingate etc.....

We win with schemes and utilizing 5'11" 220 pound lineman with discipline and technique. Very few weeks are we the most skilled and talent heavy team on the field.

It also doesn't matter how many athletes you have if they have no direction.

Fair point, but still...LR, Wingate, etc that's still high level college football. I'm not saying SP doesn't have a good scheme or tradition, but having college football players sure does help. I'm not a huge fan of seeing a coach bashing thread unless we are talking about a coach who doesn't provide off season workouts, doesn't put time in with meetings, film, and game plans....things like that. Otherwise it's just negative opinions in my book.

No one is bashing. I've stated an opinion. I think the current AD is hurting the culture more than turning it around. Nothing more.

It's also a coach's job to get his team to WANT to participate in such activities.

Latham started the fire. He's a competitor and knows how to win.
I was there in the Latham days and the whole atmosphere and mentality was different. We had a top notch coaching staff that the guys wanted to play for. Albeit EG was a 3A and 4A school back then and the number of kids that came out for football were a lot more than EG has now. But there was discipline, respect from the community, and the stands were full every Friday night. EG now does not have much of that at all. It all starts with who's running the show there. If we do not make coaching changes, what else can we change?

I would say you (we as private citizens) have the ability to help change the culture by offering your support to the school and coaches, asking what they need, what you could do. Or helping rally the community around the team and encouraging people to attend thursday and friday games. And maybe you've done that, not accusing. Just playing a little devil's advocate here.

Winning is contagious......but so is losing.

Just my opinion-

East Gaston has been hurt more so then any other school with the opening of Stuart Cramer. Almost every Mount Holly kid goes there now. The other school that has hurt them is the opening and success of Mountain Island Charter.

I do agree, back when you had guys like Latham and Lloyd the success was coming, but the also had a stud QB and WR's along with a RB that played at Northern Illinois. Are those kinds of kids still there?

Some of the freshman class probably played in the county Middle School championship a few years back against Belmont. From that middle school team, how many are at Stuart Cramer and how many are at Mountain Island Charter?

This years squad was killed by the transfer of last years starting QB a week before the season started. Name any team in the state, and tell them the kid they had invested in all summer and last season and who they thought was going to be there is now gone and they'd struggle too.

The AD making a coach play kids sounds absolutely crazy? The old coach was recruiting? Whoa!

That's crazy, doesn't matter if it's underwater basket weaving...If that's the case totally understand the uproar about the AD

You could really start to see the whole East Gaston Program thing start to go south as soon as Cramer opened, it has gotten worse each of the last 3 years. Also, in the past 4-5 years I can probably name a dozen guys that would have played at EG that transferred out of our district after middle school or after 1 year at East Gaston, pretty high quality players. I have also noticed that we have a lot of turnover on our coaching staff, 2-3 new faces every year. The worst stat of all, over the past 8 years our average points allowed per game is 38, you won't win many games giving up those kind of numbers. This years defense is by far the worst I have ever seen at East Gaston.

Do you know what happened to him? He was at the scrimmage, then gone the 1st week of the season.
