East Gaston HC is open

Its a shame that happened. Coach Postell was making really good strides at brining that program back to competitiveness and it seems that all that progress got wiped out in a year. You would think they would have some athletes, but maybe not as many as some of the other schools in Gaston Co and not the rich heritage and tradition at SP

Not a good fit from the beginning. Most of us said he would not last one season. Lots of people now saying, told you so.
He wasn't the 1st, or even 2nd choice. Truth of matter is that after talking to Postell both of them backed out of the position. And I dont fault Postell at all. I think he was just being honest about coaching at EG.

I said in another post there are deeper rooted issues at EG and I don't thinks it's going to change anytime soon unless a promotion happens. A perfect scenario (Smokey Mtn and best friend becoming admin at school) and a deep rooted issue removed Postell from EG.

Like you said, Postell bouncin’ shows how deep-rooted issues be at play, not just a personal mess-up. That perfect world you talked ‘bout, where a homie moves up to run things, points out how them bonds can really shake up the coaching scene.

What are the issues at play?

It will more than likely be the 1st year DC that was on staff this year with 1 year high school coaching experience and a year or two as a GA at App. 🙄The AD really knows what they’re doing. I think the basketball team finally won a game the other night against the school of the blind…. EG is going to continue to have dark days ahead until they make significant leadership changes.

You are all over it on all accounts. I didn’t realize he was the DC this season.

Oh yeah. Story was a last resort hire last year after missing on 2 key offers plus we didn’t even give John Hall (who has had major success at Weddington over the years and is an EG alum) the time of day. But to be honest, the DC might be the only person within a 150 mile radius willing to work for this AD. Postell will make sure of that.

AD is 100 percent the issue. Let's just say myself and a few other parents have dealt with this person before when Burns traveled to EG for other sports. It's bad enough that a reputation has formed from other schools visiting the campus for games as well.

John would have been a tremendous hire. I think the downfall was his honesty. He pretty much told them he had no offensive play-calling experience.

EG is in a tough spot with the current way lines around them and Stuart Cramer are drawn. Historically, EG drew all of Mt. Holly and all of Stanley/Lucia. After SC was built, essentially all of Mt. Holly goes to SC now. Still makes zero sense but it is what it is.

That, along with Stanley Middle becoming a lottery school, has really hurt the athletics at EG. Kids come to Stanley for MS and then venture back to their home HS. The lack of success also pushes potential athletes away as well. Right now, I know of athletes at SC, North Lincoln, MICS, East Lincoln, and Country Day that would have gone to EG but made other arrangements.

They have some very strong athletic kids on the wrestling team there. Do those dudes not play football?

Typically, they do. But it hasn't often aligned that the studs got the direction needed to provide results.

The 8th grade class coming up from Stanley is really strong. How they disperse is TBD. They are coming off back to back MS championship games in football, and back/back championship games in baseball and will be the favorites in the spring as well, and just recently had (11) kids with podium finishes at the county wrestling meet. (4) gold, (3) silver, (4) bronze.

And most of them will go elsewhere and i can’t say i blame them

Hold up! Hold up!

A guy with one year of HS coaching experience is going to get the job? Are they even going to open this thing up?

The Story hire didn’t make a lot of sense to me, but I thought heck the guy has at minimum coached ball a couple different spots.

Hall would have been a home run, there’s a few others as well.

That's just the speculation. They are/have been wanting to get the job to an EG alum that would be invested.

Three years running Stuart Cramer has gotten the best baseball player at Stanley. Ironically, one of those just committed to Virginia last week to pitch. Last year, EG didn't get the best or second best. SC and NL did.

I will say for the most part EG will benefit from this years Stanley class more than the past few. They are getting the best baseball player and Qb from the football team.

Is the AD the softball coach and also an assistant at Gaston College? If so, that tells you all you need to know about the athletic program at EG.
Visiting teams dread going there because it is guaranteed to be a joke in some sports. I can tell you now, if the visiting team is on the field warming up and the home team is out there jamming on a bluetooth to music and dancing outside the dugout it doesn't send a good message but also explains why a talented team got mercy ruled as well. Plenty of stories...

Say no more. AD has too many responsibilities to try and coach multiple sports at multiple places. Doing a major disservice to the athletes at that school.
I'd argue she's doing great things for softball at EG and for kids coming up through the LLG travel organization. She recently stepped back from that role when she accepted the GC position. She publicly stated in an interview that her goal was to be a college softball coach.

The issues I see are centered around arrogance and ego.

Oh yeah, I know nothing about the softball program, but simply speaking as an AD, it's impossible to fulfill your duties adequately when you have that much on your plate.

AD is a joke. EG is getting ready to have an influx of football talent. We are getting ready to squander it.
It's multi-sport. Football, baseball, wrestling will be main beneficiaries. Just good all around athletes. I will add they need to get something in this run because it does dry up after this 8th grade class.

He is an EG guy, so I will suport him. Congrats Coach Medici! What I think should have happened dosn't matter. I am just an old guy typing on a key board.

I hope the kid does well. But it's going to take some time I believe. I doubt he has the network of coaches to step in and make a difference immediately. Biggest difference here is that he will be allowed to not win games. He's an alum and the leash will be loooong. He's also younger than the AD and will be a yes man and thats right up her alley.

I get what you are saying. I am sure Nate is excited. I know he was in a program at App State that develops young men to be a football coach.

Experience is definitely needed. If my math is mathing, he’s only been a HS assistant for one year?
