Wow, business as usual for EL but only 3rd time ever EB makes 3rd round. These 2 teams last met at EB in 93' with EB winning a close one by 2 pts. That EB team only won 3 games that year that being one of them. On paper this looks like a brick wall for the Cavs with no chance what-so-ever but I wouldn't write em' off. This is a tough bunch of kids with a lot of heart an mean little running back in Clark.

Will be a huge honorable game for Coach Brown if anything. I can't see EB keeping it that close but good to see spirits high for the Cavs this season an tonight.

Been a long time coming for EB to have a game with a Lincoln co school.

Thoughts??

What a great win for East Burke. Brown has them playing at a high level. I look for them to be tough.

If East plays like they did last night I think we will be fine. The entire team turned it up a notch after Chazz got hurt. I don't know how good Wilkes really was but they were a 10-2 team. East scored 40 unanswered Without Chazz and lead 47-0 at the end of the 3rd. The entire 4th quarter was a long Wilkes TD drive against 2nd string with a running clock.

The defense played the best game I've seen this year. They were all over the field. Just an excellent team defensive performance. FR QB Graham looked great considering his lack of experience. The weapons he has around him were on display. Sage Surrat and Cam Dollar had great games. Dollar had one spectacular catch in particular and Sage had several great catch and run gains. Colton Banks was the player of the game though, he was unstoppable running the ball. After Chazz went out East went to a mostly power running game with some play action mixed in and looked like they'd done it all season. Very impressed and proud of this team.

I doubt Chazz will be back to 100% again in the playoffs after dislocating his elbow in his throwing arm. We'll see. I'm praying for a quick recovery and trying to be positive. Things are looking good for the long term and his career at the next level and that's the best news.

Good to hear. It was kinda back an forth with him playing or not playing according to kix 103.3... Think Jeff(EB alum-94') or one of those radio guys said something about they should set Surrat out against EB (sarcasm) that UNC called up an said sit em' out they'll be alright against EB, we need him healthy lol.

On paper like I said, EB has no chance to even keep it within 14 points but we play the game to see what really happens. Wilkes Central has had prob what some may call cupcake schedule kinda like what someone on the EB/WStokes forum said being that they were in the small mountain conf an all so they hit a brick wall hard an fast with EL obviously. EB on the other hand- losses to only ranked teams an a KM team that ought to have been ranked. Whew, didn't see KM containing BJ Emmons like that but...wow.

Factor that in, EB comes into Denver this Friday with a super tough schedule behind them an with playoff wins against a Forest Hill team they should have lost to an a win against a West Stokes team that played a fairly soft schedule all season but carries a nasty beefy Dline that stuffed RB Clark all night up the middle except for just a few plays after they were done wore out. I wouldn't underestimate this little RB, he has heart an can grind out a yard or 2 once tackled. Dline is small but they are conditioned up enough to hang around a few plays before tiring. All that being said expect East Lincoln to be on their toes for a least the first half. Their QB can also hit on good short passes when given enough protection

Thanks for the detail on E. Burke. I just looked at the schedule results and you are correct. They've only lost to a good Hibriten team and and 4 excellent teams.

I feel they should have an could have beaten that Hibriten team. Hibriten don't go to 3rd rounds for nothing but this is not the best Hibriten team they've had in a while. Last years team was better but they did lose bad to a Freedom team that fell to KM which now on paper HiB don't have much of a chance but that's why we play the game.

Those other teams EB lost to would either beat EL or put on a nailbitter with East having to count of turnovers penalities etc hypothetically speaking if they played the schedule EB played. Therefore this game for EL will be anything but easy. Take the Cavs lightly they'll bust em' in the mouth. I see an EL win by at least 17 pts at the minimum. Turnovers, penalities, an flawless play calling will be the Cavs only hope for an upset.

Good luck to East Burke , Shelby will be pulling for u cause we play in same conf.

What's gotten into East Burke lately ? Is this the same team we passed for 480 and 7 Tds on in the first half leading 55-6??? Wow what a turn around ..

With that said East Lincoln wins BIG

I believe that East playing in such a tough conference got them playing at a higher level. ..watched them Friday night and thought they were very outmatched against Stokes, but their defense kept them in it and that led to them winning in the end...kind of reminds me of Franklin last year...loved Tom Browns enthusiasm after the win ...I believe East will still have their way with them ..35-14

II thought the Mustangs were done when I heard about Surratt. However, they held it together and put on quite a show. One has to believe that they have enough poise to play a solid game against East Burke without their star QB, assuming that they will sit him. The freshman QB has to have a lot more confidence going into this game. The starters are going to help him all they can, especially if they think Chazz can make it back for the Western finals.

Realistically speaking an being a Tarheel fan/State fan too(don't ask lol) I'd set Surrat out. Not to give EB a chance but to give Surrant a chance not to ruin his career an mess himself up. If that freshman QB is anything u Lincoln co experts say he is why not put him to the test an have confidence in him. EB will be a tougher test than Wilkes Central but reality has a certain power, they very well MAY not be at the level EL is even with a freshman QB leading. It's not like he's the only guy on the feild. Those many wins didn't come for nothing.

If the East Oline plays anything like KM he will have more than enough time to throw. The Burke boys never pressured that guy all night a few weeks ago except maybe once/twice if they was lucky. One things for sure, EB will come with more pressure than Wilkes did. Even if they are small.

It really doesn't matters who's playing QB come Friday night, EL win this game by 3-4 TDs or more. Now as for Chazz playing Friday night, I would have to sit him if I was his parents or coach and I really do mean sit even if it means his season/career is over at ELHS. This kid has nothing left to prove on the HS level, but he has a college career to lose/ throw away if he hurts hisself because he pressing too hard.

So who else on this EL team is big play D1 or even small college prospect that has vastly helped this team recieve the winning streak they have received?

EB comes with a tough QB an a booger of a small RB that I wouldn't take lightly. Sure he may not be anything like u saw last week but with the right blocks he can get ya. Also don't have a bad WR. The DBs were not bad on pass defense last week but they wasn't up against Surrat either. EB QB this year has either sat records or is on verge of it an against competition some of which play at a higher or just as high as EL.

I basically posted this to see who the other Allstars is for EL. Fill us in

Very excited for our in county Cavaliers! Regardless of outcome with E Lincoln, they have
a lot to be proud of this year. They are playing with much heart at the right time. Good Luck!

Fist bump to my fella Burke co rowdy mr patsfball. Thanks for the congrats. Hate u guys went down that early. I thought if Freedom was gonna rise the trophy it'd be this year. No Burke co HS team has ever won the state in Football as far as I know.

U should come up to Denver an help us cheer the boys on. I know I stand behind Freedom during playoff time. Come up an see us, I'd like to meet ya.

I was impressed with #2 for East Burke. He took a lot of hits and had the dirtiest uniform on the field. West has some really good linebackers and he ran hard at them all night. I know East Lincoln will be the big favorite in this game and they should but East Burke has some talent.

Very little history between these 2 teams an very little overall history with Lincoln co playing Burke Co schools.

EB leads the series with EL 1-0 with a 10-8 win in Icard in 1993. Lincolnton beats down Draughn 3 years ago in playoffs.

Not sure how many times Lincolnton an Freedom met up for a good classic game prob since the 80's but as far as i know Freedom is winning in that series. There may have been some old Lincolnton/Glenn Alpine matchups back in the day with ole' "Jug " Wilson. This is the fun part, some older guy with historical knowledge step in an fill us in on that one.

The 2 counties are really not that far apart but rarely compete with each other in sports espacially the pigskin. This will be the Cavs first ever visit to Denver as far as the football goes. Expect some good visitors side fan support.

Glen Alpine never played Lincolnton due mainly to the Wolves being in the WNCHSAA and the Green Wave in the Skyline Conference. Mostly, during the era of Wilson's success, the Green Wave played in the Western Regional area of the State.

Coach Wilson did make it as far as you could go back in those days and won it 4 times if im correct. I think drexel won it in 6 man a long time ago.

East Lincoln won the state when Chazz was a freshman WR. It's not like they were a 5-5 type of squad before he got there.

Heck, if he can't throw, he may tape up the elbow and play wideout and wildcat QB. Or he may just throw it right handed. Even if he sits, most predict an EL victory. They're solid.

Really am happy for East Burke..... been a long time since they were mentioned
this late in season. Amazing what solid coaching can do.

I'm sure coach Brown an crew will be preping an studying up on EL pretty good this week. Brown is a bit of a gambler at some plays. He rolled the dice pretty hard on a few plays at West Stokes. If I was him, dispite of what fans say, yell, an cuss in the stands, Brown just needs to stick to his guns an play his game. We still squeaked out a win last week even with a bad gamble or 2. WStokes played a soft schedule yes but let's hypnotically say EB didn't pull it off an that they would be coming to EL. - East would still win in convincing fashion but they would be far tougher an much harder to run on than WCentral.

I'd keep rolling that dice if I were Brown. Simply because this is EL. An most likely the offense will score on every drive so the less time the Mustangs have the ball, the better. Cavs with a 4th an 2, 4th an 3- go for it, no matter what the spot. Unless backed up in the endzone lol

I'm not saying this will happen if EB wins, an I don't even expect EB to win. Sure I can hope all day long but let's say they do- expect the crowd to storm the field an people going crazy like they won the Super Bowl an cameras an phones flashing everywhere. Everything but the confedi or however u spell it, the stuff they pour out on the field at the end of a super bowl. EB has NEVER went 4th round an only 3rd time ever with possibility of it never happening again- made it to 3rd round. A real honor for Brown an crew just to walk on EL field. Heck of a season when nobody gave them a chance in Aug with a lot of disappointment in past few seasons since Biggerstaff retired.

JVs this year didn't have but maybe 2 wins, I dunno I'll have to look but it don't look all that promising an coach Brown can't hang around forever. Wishing the best for the Cavs this Friday. Prob tickles coach Roark to death to see his former team play another former team. He may be there at game who knows.

Really impressed with east burke teams last two wins, very gutsy... I can't wait til Friday, I think elhs is going to have to play great to beat this team, but I think they have it in them. Let's see if the defense can shut down another good runner.... Like last week, and against maiden, and against west caldwell, and lincolnton.

East Burke's RB Clark is a pure blazer and not afraid to run thru the tackles. QB Duckworth doesn't make many mistakes. The weakness starts on the defensive side of the ball.

East Lincon's offensive scheme will change with Sarratt not at QB. The game film is almost useless in preparation for friday night.

Clark is pound for pound the best on the field for East Burke. Love his grit.
Duckworth to Newell is pretty impressive as well. I like the play calling
at East Burke and would love to see an upset.

Defense held pretty good against West Stokes. They forgot to show up vrs KM though. West Stokes may be a cupcake team in a cupcake conf is prob why they looked good. An same reason EL mauled over WCentral. WCentral also lost big to Ashe co in conf play of whom is weaker than last years Huskie team but still sat in a weak mountain Valley conf.

EL better not come out cocky an look past EB. I do remember an EL team that done that in 06' -whooped up on everybody most of season an let Cherryville get em'

EL will not come in "cocky", will be prepared and focused as they have all season, if EB wins it is because they are the best team that night and vice versa, the game you speak of EL had a ton of injuries and Cherryville played great, I remember Byus being quoted as saying we ran out of band aids, it had nothing to do with their attitude, take that crap elsewhere. I for one am excited about this match up, and trust me EL is not surprised to see them in this game. All about how teams match up at this point, they got a good draw and so did EL. Good luck to East Burke

Leaning strongly toward Hibriten/Kings Mountain. If something changes I will look
you up. Good luck to the Cavs......we're pulling for you.

Thanks Pat. If u come just post on here ur coming. If anyone wants to meet the Burkeforreal lol I'll have an App hat on sitting on the visitors side. I know that don't narrow it down much but it's not smart to give away too much identiy on this thing cause people's crazy these days. Just yell Burke for real an ill throw my hand up or something. 5 dollars for each autograph lol jk.

I know I stand behind any Burke co team that goes down the stretch. I hate that Freedom got knocked out so quick. EB will carry the torch on as much as possible on this ride. Expect a packed house. Should be way more folks in stands than just EB/EL fans. North Lincoln/Draughn/a few Freedom/ a few WL folks will most likely be there too. Get there early folks. Temps will be good too.

Should be kinda like a Independence/EB game of 2007 minis the 4a. Shatley was only thing kept them in that game an was the target for the defense as Clark will be for EL defense. Cept Clark is small an Shatley was just.. Big an scary

East better not look past E. Burke. I know with Big Bad Monroe most likely waiting and their all star QB sitting on the bench, it has to be on their minds.

EB has a fine team led by a legendary coach.

Why does everyone think EL is looking past EB, dang, EL just lost 80% of their offense to a freak accident, EL is very happy to be in the position they are in after last Friday, and ready for some football, and what a sight seeing the whole TEAM step up in the absence of Chazz and what they want to do to honor him because he is a teammate of theirs as well as Connor Faile for the remainder of the season, this is a hungry group, not "cocky" not " arrogant" but a group of kids that love football, And what are you talking about G29, big bad Monroe, not a thought in their minds, only thought is hitting #2 over and over and over, and finding a way to put the ball in the end zone. Let's go Mustangs, tired of hearing the garbage being spewed out there

Hey I'm with you CM3. I hope EL beats EB and beats the brakes off Monroe. They showed what they're made of against Wilkes after Chazz got hurt. I had no ill will in my post. I legitimately hope they are not looking past EB. I was being a little sarcastic with the big bad Monroe comment. Everyone is acting like they can't be beat.

At this point I'd love to see the mustangs repeat. I wish Chazz the best in his recovery and not just because I'm a Tarheel fan but also because he is a GREAT kid and one of the best all round atheletes I've seen at the high school level.
