Hey buddy, now I know we have had problems in the past, but just hear me out... they said the greatest coach in NC high school football history is leaving Shelby high, and we need a damn good replacement and I feel like you would be a great fit, plus you need some State championships under your name and what’s the best way to get 1 or maybe 6 then to come to high school football heaven (Shelby High School)... So set back and think about it tonight and give us a call in the morning and tell us you are ready to be SHELBY HIGH NEXT HEAD BALL COACH!!!

It would be a helluva fit, though. Ware without question is a great coach, great in every sense of the word, great person, period. But, we are also fortunate to have athletes attending that school year in and year out, too.

Wouldn't have that classless clown. Good coach but simply doesn't have enough class to be at Shelby. We can do better than that period. Heck I wouldn't wish him on Crest.

Not happening

If Lance is in fact leaving we dont need someone that is proven to not have anything to do with the youth leagues nor someone that if you look past
the high fivin, chest bumpin really hasnt won anything....

Aint a chance in hades Matt Beam becomes the head coach at Shelby if Lance leaves.... He wants Kings Mountain anyway ... Or Maybe the OC job at Burns

When did Tom Knotts work at Shelby?

Not happening. I was sent a screen shot a few weeks ago showing a post where this guy couldn’t even land a middle school job and went ape shit on FB. I don’t see why FB is so popular but the youngins love it. I guess the kids do too.

I would welcome Beam back at Burns in a heartbeat. I don't see how any Burns fan would not appreciate and acknowledge the great job the man did for us. One thing is for sure, Devine sure hasn't set the woods on fire the past two seasons in Lawndale. Unless of course you want to talk about how hot our opponents side of the score board got with all the points scored on us.

That’s a load of bullshit! Matt Beam came in with a ton of talent and you know it. It’s the same thing he had when he went to N Lincoln. What do they both have in common? He left when the talent left. No way he has a terrible season on his resume. What happened at NC?? Hmmmm. Devine did a hell of a job his first year back. He brought back values that program lost. MB wanted the job that Barnes got over in Boiling Spring I always heard too. I heard he sells recliners now. Keep him away. The same fans talking about the Burns coaches now like dirt will be the same ones kissing their asses when they win.

Came in with a ton of talent? Beam inherited a team that went 1-10 the year before. That team had an interim head coach named....wait for it.....Devine! Beams first year he went 6-7. So he took what he inherited and improved it 5 games. The rest of his tenure according to maxpreps he went: 12-2;13-2;7-3 (that sounds off); and 11-2. We beat Shelby 4 years in row. We got our last win over Crest during his time. We came within one game of going back to State. Beam came in and built the program back from where it had tanked after Green left and a younger Devine gave it a try. He built it in a hurry. Give the dude some credit man.

Came in with a ton of talent? He built the talent in the weight room. You talk to some middle school coaches and see what they say. Most would say “there is no way he should have been that successful with those kids he had” “I don’t know what he does to get what he gets out of them but he does” I’m not one to sit and always say “wish he was still here” but I know what he did for the program and it was good and not much good as happened since. And Devine brought morals back? Lol come on now...if you knew anything about what really happened that first year that made him look like a million bucks, his name is Steven Pack!!!!

Shouldn’t have been that successful? Did you see the size and athleticism Burns had during that time? Just because the middle school didn’t produce with them does not make it a miracle. He had help that made him stand out much more. By the way, since Devine got no credit for his first year back who do you think was the brains behind MB time at Burns? Wait for it, His name is Steven Pack!!!! See what I did there? Devine came in with a team full of knuckleheads on a down year. They gave him one but yet the last coach did the same thing. Remember ole Rob? It’s a flow fellows. The legend Green gets forced out, Devine comes in on a down year and gets the boot. Program looks like crap. MB comes in and saves the day right? Then MB bounces, conveniently before a down year and Rob gets the job. Now he is the scapegoat on a down year or two. Devine comes back, has a little more talent and then we have a down time. Guess what? Wait til next year and then see what you type on here.I never said MB is a bad coach like your response has suggested. I just think he has put the blinders on you in a way you cannot see yourself.

I’m not saying any of the above I understand that Pack was there with Beam. The fact of the matter is this. It takes more than a smart coach to be successful at Burns, period. Also, this thread wasn’t about burns or Devine it was about Beam going to Shelby. Realistically I don’t think it’ll happen. Also no matter who is where, in CC or any other county or school, they aren’t anything with out a good group of assistants. Some coaches are better than others because of what they get out of the kids. That’s what made Beam successful at burns. He made the kids think they weren’t better than anyone. If he said run through that block wall, they would do it. I don’t see that in any coach at burns right now. Devine works hard, but what he lacks in my opinion is the motivation factor. But what do I know...

How many rings does Beam have? How many does Devine have? If Shelby wants conference championships then that is who they should hire. If they want to keep winning titles then hire within. The system works. Devine came from that system. Give it time and the time is now.
