Ryan Jones & Jacob Roberts with the Calgary Stampeders

If DJ gets picked up it will be by a team after training camp or during the season to fill a void if they believe he can help them immediately. I don't believe any team will bring him in and pay him just to be on their roster. When KC brought him in and he got injured shortly after arriving, there's a big question mark about him being in good enough health to serve in a starting role capacity. I would love to see him get some redemption. However, he is 31 years old now.

I recently had a conversation with him during his visit to Charlotte. He is currently evaluating multiple opportunities and has also purchased a residence locally. He conveyed that, based on the significant progress in his recovery—marked by a positive response to his health, he believes the decision regarding the continuation of his football career ultimately rests with him. Additionally, there remains a possibility of a move to Charlotte, as the organization had shown interest prior to his engagement with the Chiefs. 10 years in the NFL, not bad.

Absolutely and indeed!

What Mallard Creek has done in less than 20 years is super impressive. Not sure many NC schools open 75 years have put as many players in the pros. The Mallard Creek/U-City area is the most talent rich area by far. Crazy thing is if all the players in that area actually went to MC vs. other HS they would dominate more sports especially football.

I would believe that the north and west sides both are rich in talent. However, many of those young men and ladies from the west side deal with more adversity in their personal lives than the other sides of town. Same holds true for those within the Exit 4 area of the southwest side.

Not to take away anything from MC, but let's be honest, there's a lot of recruitment and relocation has occurred there that landed a lot of that talent there.

Let's look at it as if Mallard Creek were not in existence, the Highland Creek and Prosperity areas would be going to North Meck. Let's look at Chambers not existing, those students would be going to Garinger.

Mallard Creek has lost more kids than they've obtained from being a winning program. Win and they will come. I'm very adamant about them being The school in Charlotte, that does not have to recruit to win. You win with the Bigs, and they've been blessed with them. The downfall was with the new QB, when the returning QB got you to the 4th State Championship game.

You're just not being honest, or you don't know, if you believe a lot of recruitment is the reason for the success. Very few of the kids that relocated, who knew they were going to be the caliber player they turned out to be? Incredible staff that was huge on development.

Let the Head coaching job come available at the Creek today. Every Coach in the City would be applying. It's not because of recruiting, it because of the kids they get that are zoned for the Creek.

Coaches want to be where they can get the support needed. We all know the strongest and most supportive alumni base in Charlotte Mecklenburg is West Charlotte. Although the football program was mostly down for a majority of the last 20 years, the resurgence is happening.

Student athletes can go and play athletics at any accredited school in the area and graduate from there. However, there's only one that comes with FAMILY for a lifetime, The Dub!

To clarify, your critique of Mallard Creek seems to serve more as recognition for West Charlotte. Just a heads-up, if your program was inactive for 20 years, it’s understandable that your alumni base may have been minimal. That said, welcome back, West Charlotte.

Duh! West Charlotte opened in 1938 🤣 IT SHOULD'VE BEEN, BUT IT WASN'T.

The run from 2010 to 2017 was a pleasure to witness. So much talent.

Agree the strongest/largest fanbase in Charlotte is West Charlotte and its not remotely close. However the best talent in the city is definitely the U-City, Highland Creek, Mallard Creek areas and that's not close either. You cant be down as long as WC was down and have a talent pipeline. West Charlotte is getting their talent pipeline back and it helps that Chambers is down while WC is winning big. It also helps that West Charlotte is an IB magnet school getting guys from Ranson, Piedmont, and JMA. Probably the 3 best sports middle schools in Charlotte. Mallard Creek has more guys NOT going there to avoid the backlog. No question the MC area has the most "natural" talent base in the county.

One of the most over looked positions when talking player movement/talent are the lines! This is MC biggest advantage and why WC is an 8A favorite. WC now has dominate linemen, which has been a MC specialty. MC JV line 2024 is better/bigger than most HS school lines. WC, MC, Hough, and Rolesville are 8A favorites because of line play.

Mallard Creek slowing down to me comes to QB. JMHO but not playing/starting Jadyn Washington set a bad precent. Kelly, Noeller, and Caldwell never won a ship. Make no mistake, MC did get transfers in at a lot of other spots but the QB was typically home grown. MC also went too defensive heavy in their thinking once Brand left. MC offenses were explosive and full of playmakers. They ran the ball and mauled you. Now its just basic football. Lastly MC has Hough disease. Never seen a great team just no-show against an opponent. Yes Hough is good. but they not 30pts better than MC.

West Charlotte is gonna be a monster for years if Greiner stays 3-5 more years. On that 90s WC Indy/MC level. They are reloading at an insane rate. The key is the line play. The WC defense was flat out nasty in 2024 and should be better in 2025. If the offense can smooth itself out and not be so clunky in big games they will challenge. Their offensive is more explosive than it is consistent if that makes sense.
