After a bye last night Clinton 3-1(1-0) returns to action traveling to Goldsboro 3-3(0-2) for their homecoming. Just my opinion but i hope we leave that veer in Sampson County Friday night just not enough production when its ran we struck with that thoughout the first quarter vs Midway and it produced 0 points.....from what i hear about Goldsboro they have a big front like last year and runs up the middle probably going to be hard to come by similar to last years match up.....Evans,Jalen and Boogie Smith, and Wallace will need big games offensively....defensively we will be tested if Bowden plays(heard he left Friday's game with a injury) gang tackling, tackling in space, pressuring the QB all things we need to do. Goldsboro will look to spread us out....#3 and #4 present a huge challenge for our secondary.......there isnt a soccer game Friday so we should have the services of our normal kicker which is huge because our special teams coverage KO in particular has been very iffy this season and #3 Valentine is a helluva return man...going need Taylor to be kicking touchbacks all night.......all in all i feel we should win this but this is definitely one that you better not overlook as a player/coach.......save that veer for next week we play Spring Creek you can work on it all night that game

Evans is quite the athlete makes you wonder why he wasnt given more opportunities last year....currently leads the team in rushing pretty much our most explosive player he has that big play potential everytime the ball is in his hands

What makes him dangerous is his ability to make something out of nothing. Let’s be honest he is a RB playing QB and if it’s not there when he does decide to run it’s like a RB in the open field making cuts, stopping/starting, etc. To make him complete, his has to continue to improve his passing, which he has, but if Clinton doesn’t become one-dimensional then we got a shot at winning some big games.

Yes i agree......also been impressed with sophomore Davion "Boogie" Smith starting to shine on both sides of the ball...we have a good core of young players that if they continue to improve and of course stay eligible could really make some noise in the next year or 2.

The main reason the veer doesn't work well for us right now is the inability to run the option. The team is just relegated to either running a jet sweep or dive out of it. And because the backs have to be so close to the line of scrimmage, Jalen Smith doesn't have a good head of steam before hitting the hole and is ineffective. But he is much more effective in the I or offset I formation, like DH#34 said.

Best QB y’all played this year the one from Cape Fear?

No, not imo. He couldn’t throw at all. Best QB was Carson Calcutt Midway so far hands down. He can run and has a cannon. After having seen Avent QB for JK, he may be best we see, basden at WRH is good too. Lots of good QB’s coming up, but IMO best so far has been Calcutt from Midway.

I haven’t seen Basden since the beginning of season but IMO he has regressed. WRH backs and receivers also have bricks for hands. Didn’t go watch Calcutt play can’t speak on him. Avent still has room to improve but he is a very exciting player, he has made a lot of progress in his career.

I agree with 04 about Calcutt. He is a few athletes away from really having something special over there at Midway. Avent I’ve heard is a Johnny Manziel mini-clone, and is never down till he is down. Assuming 04 was saying Basden is good based on past outings vs Clinton but idk. Look forward to all the matchups coming up, starting with Goldsboro.

Well enough. Only team we faced that can sling it is Midway, they scored once. It was a swing pass in the flat, broke one tackle, out ran Defense for like 90yard TD.

That was with 2nd teamers and JV kids in the game.....1st team defense has given up 15 points this year all of that on those 2 short scoring drives vs Cape Fear....NS-Jax scored their lone TD on the subs aswell and of course we shutout EB...defense is solid

Y’all should be fine as long as you go low. He destroyed everyone on JK when they tried to go high.

Well one of the biggest differences between this year and last is the tackling last year alot of arm tackling.....not this year....not trying to sound big headed but we got some hitters....#58 Thorpe the DT if he gets a clean shot man....he had a hit during the Midway game Jesus....definitely got a reaction out the crowd....Kaba,Cruise,Sloan,Ellis im not too concerned bout our run defense or ability to get 11 to the ball and tackle

Kaba probably the only player In conference that won’t have to go low on Bowden.

We must cut down on the silly penalties that can put us in a hole that we may not be able to get out of. We were lucky against Midway, but might not be as lucky against the Cougs.

JV game was Wednesday haven't seen a score posted i wasnt able to attend due to work and my normal source hasn't heard a score either....i messaged one of the Coaches just waiting for a response

Goldsboro will be a very motivated team. Just a team that has zero coaching

They had a sudden coaching change at the beginning of the season due to head coach having some health issues......its homecoming for them so yes they will be motivated we definitely need to come out strong

Agreed but i wouldnt call it luck against Midway we were head over hills the better team only reason they were in the first quarter was the offensive play selection im telling ya that veer just not hitting right now....as soon as we switched formations it was like a whole different team.........the worse penalties we have is the delay of game penalties...communication between the coaches and the QB have to get better takes wayyyy to long to get plays in

What I meant to say was that we were lucky in the fact that we didn't really shoot ourselves in the foot with the penalties, such as giving Midway short field positions. We won't be able to do that against Goldsboro and get away with it.
