Who did we discredit? Yes there where a large amount of football players who did not make the grades and that is why they are not on the team. The KID you are referring to is a KID and they make mistakes, so he is no longer on our team and that was his choice.
Here is the ugly truth about winning programs. THERE ARE A LOT OF 2ND CHANCES THAT HAPPEN! Without the structure of organized sports and the rules of grades and class attendance some would never graduate, and Phil Padgett was a master of holding the game and being apart of a winning program over these kids heads. So implying we had to cheat or do something under handed to win you are wrong. The staff used football to actually help these kids in all aspects of life.
Your Jacksonville coach did not want a kid on his team and that is his right, but on the flipside it shows he did not care enough to even try. As you said, as soon as the attitude showed he kicked him off (you're words not mine).
There are knuckle head boys 14-18 yrs old all over the country. Throwing them to the side and pretending we did the right thing is not the answer. Mr Taylor and his son are good people in my opinion and it shows and they have been rewarded with a D 1 scolly. For many getting through high school is hard. There are kids who go home with no food to eat. There are kids who have a parent with addiction issues. If the game of football keeps these kids focused for 2hrs of practice and learning team work and putting in hard work I would say let them all play.
