Clinton 14 HPA 13

Let me preface this by saying that nothing here is intended to take away from Clinton or their coaching. Quality program and quality coach. But some times it IS about the players and not the coaches. From what i saw clinton just out manned andrews on both sides of the line. Andrews got no push on O or D. To McKoy's credit, they did make some adjustments and come out in the second half and move the ball. Clinton just shut down the momentum with their drive after the first score, then the missed kick decided the game for good.I am not saying clinton didnt do any coaching, im just saying it was not a grand chess master that won the game.

While you are entitled to your opinion of the man, I can tell you what i have heard from some folks in the building at Andrews now, he is winning INSPITE of what he has around him. From what i am told, Andrews today is nothing like what you must cherish in your glory days.I saw on another forum and in the past you claim that another coach would have gotten multiple state titles where he only got 1. What years? MAYBE 2012?

In the end, the clinton andrews game was a great game to be at. Andrews head coach must either really love these kids or be a glutton for punishment the way he is treated by his community.

Stan, I respect your opinion but you have greatly misrepresented my thoughts on McKoy so I will clear it up yet again. I have said a million times and will say again, I think McKoy is a tremendous human being. I think he does an excellent job in loving those kids and being present for them during and after their school days at Andrews are over. I also think he has done an excellent job in helping kids get to college from a scholarship perspective. He also is instrumental in shaping these young men to be quality husbands, fathers, etc which is far more important than any win or loss on the football field. Because of those things, he is a success in my book and that opinion will not change.

Now that I've said that, because I point out things that need improvement in our program from time to time, or with particular teams each year, that does not mean I think any less of him. Everything I have said this year and in years past, are things that he has said himself that we must improve on, specifically discipline and penalties. If we have over 100 yards in penalties in over half our games during the season, and I point out that McKoy and staff need to right size this before it bites us in the tail late in the playoffs against a good team, that doesn't mean I dislike McKoy or not support him. It's facts and as I said above, they are things he acknowledges even in interviews after games. In terms of discipline, I, along with too tall and some others on here have pointed out a lack of what I would call teaching moments/corrections when players continue to make the same mistake over and over specifically those that lead to penalties. I've also said that these teaching moments or coach able moments that happen in games usually fall in the hands of the position coaches, not McKoy. McKoy can't be everywhere at once. I've said numerous times that McKoy is a tremendous football coach and s great leader, but he has also been hurt by having a less than desirable staff in some years with some turnover, etc. In high school, those aren't necessarily things he can control as teaching positions are also accounted for. . From what I've seen, significant improvement have been made on that front.

In terms of years past, I stand behind the fact that I think we have missed out on at least 1-2 more state titles during McKoys time at Andrews. I think a lack of discipline cost us greatly in those years and McKoy has acknowledged as much. Before the state title year in 13, McKoy was quoted as saying he felt we let one get away in 12. So I ask you yet again, what is wrong with feedback that falls in line with things McKoy has said himself?

Lastly, I bleed Red and have since I graduated in 76. I have had 3 children graduate from the school who have went on to be tremendous people both personally and professionally because of those that helped shape them at Andrews. People like Rodney McKoy. I support anybody at Andrews that devoted their time to the betterment of the kids on McGuinn. Andrews is not what it once was by enrollment and demographic but I can tell you that there's enough talent at that school to compete for state titles in most years. That is the expectation of the fan base, of the kids, and of Rodney McKoy. He understands that and busts his tail to make that happen for the kids and the community every year. He's not perfect, he has flaws, just as we all do. Because those are pointed out on a message board made for football analysis and discussion, does not take away from the support in Red Raider territory. He knows that and I hope that you now know that too.

I'm glad the DarkHorses have their chess master, legendary, Hall of Fame Coach for the playoffs. He knows very well the pattern for championship success.
