Oak Grove vs CD: this could be a pretty interesting one or it could be a dud. Depends on the Central offense and how OG gameplans for it. I'll take OG.

Tville vs Ledford: biggest game this week, Ledford in a close one due to depth.

ED vs WD: rivalry time, WD wins unless ED can get something going on offense.

ND vs South Rowan: closer than in the past, ND still wins. Travel to China Grove sucks, won't be going.

Salisbury vs Lexington: Salisbury should win even if not fully healthy. Lexington really not having a good year so far.

Hope you’re right, Wow71.
The game last year at Ledford was almost over before it started. Two huge problems. Five or six delays of game and burned 3 or 4 timeouts to avoid others. Very poor special teams with several terrible snaps. If I recall correctly, Ledford was up 21-0 and only had one offensive possession, maybe three offensive plays and twenty yards or so.
Ledford deserved to win, for sure. But it wasn’t a 35 point game.
Unfortunately, those same problems showed up this past Friday. Gotta correct them.

Went 4-1 last week. Central was Fools Gold.

OG- Not thinking a blow out or shut out. Expect OG will be coached up for that offense. Nothing interesting about this one.

Ledford- Expect this one to be close. Thomasville want be able to contain #2 with those players playing both sides of the ball.

West- The battle for last place. West coaching staff is better, so going West.

North- South Rowan will be a lot better than East. But, not enough talent to beat North. North will be without their big offensive threat. Lucky for them, they playing SR

Salisbury- Salisbury wins big.

That game was over before it started due to clock management, turnovers and Special team problems. Got to fix the turnovers and special team issues with LHS, OG and ND three of the next four weeks. I am sure Coach Robertson and staff have a great plan I place for the guys to execute.

Dogs in tight one
North Davidson in Blowout
Oak Grove by 21 points
Salisbury by blow out
East finally makes the changes on Offensive play calling and wins a tight one

I'm already looking forward to high school basketball season, if that means anything.

Basketball? What’s that? :)

Did they hire a wrestling coach over there? I know the head coach went to pursue other interests and the assistant left for another high school.

PrepFanNC I am not to sure about the wrestling side of the house over at East. At this point, I am just ready for high school basketball. Until East Davidson gets creative on offense, it is going to be the exact same result every Friday night.

I always suggest getting those non-basketball players after football season and encouraging them to wrestle.
Footwork, Balance, Competitiveness, Toughness, Stamina... etc. etc. All can be gained on the mat.

I guarantee you that its more than they’re doing in the offseason by taking a weightlifting class.
East has strong, tough kids year in and year out. But I think more than a few tend to take breaks between football seasons.

I think Oak Grove had most of their football kids doing track and field last year. I like that too.

The time where we could play football until November and show back up again next summer is over. To be competitive year in and year out takes year round work. East hasn’t been able to do that with the previous coaching carousel. Hopefully that will change now that there is some stability there.

Wrestling is especially great for linemen but is good for any football player because it helps you learn bodyweight vs bodyweight movement and adjustments.

Unfortunately I was injured every year with my knees or I would have wrestled. Coach Dunn was always asking me to come out when he saw me in the library lol. I would have if it wasn't for having to rehab my knees after every football season. Oh well... I did enjoy going to watch Brody Essick and the guys go at it.

I would like to see my Golden Eagles get the "W" this week against West Davidson. The coaches are going to have to open up the play book a little and get creative. The talent is there. Just have to put the players in the right situation to be successful.

I’ll be rooting for East as well. I’ll be at Central Davidson getting a peek at that wonky offense.

Prep, they made a hire. Young guy who may be helping with football, not sure.

Anyone going to the CD/OG JV game?

I won’t be there, but I’m curious to see if its a high scoring affair like last weeks JV game between CD and T’ville.

31-8 OG win - Central put up a “quick” 8 in a typical 6-7 minute double-wing drive and then never scored again - last week must have been long run after long run with poor tackling b/c that offense just isn’t designed for quick scores.

May have a lot to do with Thomasville playing twenty or less players, most going both ways. Probably more that than anything Central did.

Everyone I’ve talked to about last week’s JV team is absolutely mystified about the 74-50 final score.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this all plays out tomorrow evening in Southmont. If the JV was prepared for it, hopefully the varsity is as well.

I applaud Thomasville for fielding a JV, even if it results in some lumps. JV teams are crucial.

Agreed - and that was certainly no disrespect to Thomasville - but watching them play tonight it was typical grind it out style play - longest play from scrimmage was probably a 7-8 yard run.

Numbers game, THS gave Ledford a real good JV game losing 28-20. Had some big runs and a long TD pass. Really good athletes just need more kids to come out. Keep in mind two of the best players they have are starting on varsity as 9th graders. Put those two on JV and they are likely 4-0 instead of 2-2. Numbers come up the Dogs will be fine.

I have mixed feelings about it. I certainly recognize the value of preparing kids and that many kids are simply not ready for varsity competition, especially as freshmen. But, at some point, the low numbers affect both teams negatively.
Ultimately, I trust Coach Robertson to make that decision. It’s just painful to watch those young kids struggle, knowing that the low numbers is the biggest factor in the results.

Oak Grove with a running clock at CD. I'm starting to think they will run through this conference undefeated.

Guess it was a dud after all. Score?

Edit: Nevermind. Scorestream says 49-7. OG averaging 48 points a game so far this year, ND only team so far to hold them under 40.

Credit, that’s the only decent team the played. But undefeated in this conference right now isn’t a far reach. If it’s tough to do in any sport. Something always usually goes wrong when not expecting it.

OG
Dogs
WD
ND
Salisbury

WD 31
ED 7
Final- Game delayed then called late in 3rd qtr for extended lightning delay. East scored on 1st play of the game on an 80 yard TD pass. Play calling was a little better but game plan on offense still not good enough. East not able to consistently move the ball and defense on field too long got wore down by West offense.

With OG playing so well I believe Holcomb should be coach of the year with how much they have improved.from last year. The players must really buy into what Holcomb and the coaching staff are doing. I never would have believed they would go undefeated but I think at this point nobody else except maybe Ledford can beat them.

You can just see the confidence they have after beating North. Another solid performance with very few mistakes. On the first possession of the game, they did have a fumble deep in their own territory that CD scored their TD on. The very next play, the Blair kid busted a 95 yard kick return TD to tie, and they never looked back.

CD probably didn't have 100 yards of offense. They went backwards on several drives.

Holcomb is a fantastic motivator and developer of a team. He has also evolved a lot over the years and never got stuck in doing it one way. These guys were a good JV team and last year they won with juniors and sophomores morr than expected, almost going .500 so we knew they would be good.

It's the undefeated part people didn't expect. They're good and looking better each week. Ledford and MAYBE Salisbury are the only games they have left that they can't coast through. Tville has the talent but not the numbers.

Well, I was expecting something a little more from the double wing... OG was in the backfield before most of the handoffs and misdirection could occur.

I’m not ready to hand the conference to Oak Grove just yet. I need to see Salisbury and Ledford first. They are certainly one of the favorites though.

I said at the beginning of the year that I thought they would contend, but I wasn't expecting them to destroy teams like they are (with the exception of North). They're not the most physical team around, but they are just fundamentally sound. They are still young, too, with several 10th graders logging minutes.

It looks like ND got some big offense going tonight. I'm sure they would like another shot, and may get it in the playoffs. I don't think Ledford can score enough points to beat OG, and I'm not sold on Salisbury given who they have played.

Taking nothing away from Ledford tonight against my Dogs. But not sure they’re as good as OG, North or Salisbury. It’s OG’s to lose at this point. A year earlier than I expected.

A rematch would be quite interesting between ND and OG. I am as far from a playoff projection expert as I can be... but something tells me that the line for East/West for playoffs runs between Midway and Welcome.

So you're thinking ND in the west? Going west in big 2A won't be pretty.

The same thing that is the strength of the doublewing is also its weakness. With all those pullers to gain a numbers advantage, if a defensive line and linebackers get into the pulling lanes and get penetration it can get ugly. Granted I wasn't at the game but from your post it sounds like this is what happened.

2AA West is murderers row. 2AA East the only team I hear making noise is Southwest Edgecombe. They might be better this year according to their fans but I guess we will have to wait til playoffs to see. If OG goes East I would expect a deep run. They could also have a rematch with Ledford if those two go East.

But all of this is just speculation until we see who makes the playoffs. I guess that is what a message board is for lol.

If I remember correctly, North was either the westernmost, or 2nd westernmost team in 2AA East.

Oak Grove is certainly further east. The other new addition is North Forsyth. Yes, NF sucks, but if they sneak into the playoffs somehow, I think that would push North Davidson into the west.

But again NF making the playoffs seems like a real unlikely event.

I don’t want the season to be over anytime soon, but playoff speculating is a lot of fun!
