OG vs CD: this one could be interesting or could be a dud. Central has played nobody thus far but looks impressive scoreboard-wise. OG scored an impressive win against Salisbury to show they are ready to defend their CCC title. Central is much improved but I don't think it's their time yet. This will be the first real test for their defense... OG by 2-3 TDs as their offense keeps rolling and their D stops the double wing enough for comfort...

ND vs Salisbury: I know the Hornets are itching for this one after losing a close one last year. North has the best passing game in the conference by far, and will need it against the Salisbury D. The Hornet offense is better than last year and has the speed to give North fits. Last chance for Salisbury to beat ND before new conference realignment. I expect a good game and will take the Knights, barely. Would not be surprised either way though.

Tville vs Ledford: I believe the Dogs got a good coach but there seem to be growing pains so far. Could give Ledford trouble with their speed, but I see the Panthers winning a close one.

SR vs WD: I hope West enjoyed last year, because they are in a bad state now... South isn't that athletic but they are more athletic than West, and it will show. Raiders by a couple scores.

ED vs Lexington: Lexington is BAD. Real bad. Normally I would give them an edge on East just because of speed. Not the case this time. East wins.

Good predictions! OG-CD, ND-Salisbury are must wins for all teams to get into the playoffs. OG has proven they can score on good teams and win big games so I give them the edge. CD operates that double wing like a D10 Dozer plowing over the competition. CD has not played a top 15 team yet so the jury is still out. I think OG is strong enough up front to slow down that yardage chewing Spartan offense. Can CD cover the OG passing game up for the upset? I take OG by 10+ points. CD is still on the rise and Coach T has those boys playing hard and winning again.

ND-Salisbury is like a second round playoff game with two good teams going at it. Will Salisbury solve the passing game of ND by double covering #1 and playing man to man on the others to take away or limit the long TD passes. Stop #1 and #10 and you stop the Knights. The ND running game scares nobody at this point. Can the Hornet offense produce enough points to overcome the ND passing game and get the win. I take the Knights in a very tightly contested game won on special teams play (kicking and FG's).

Ledford-Thomasville is another good matchup. Ledford has two quality receivers, a good QB and if healthy a good RB. Rumor is that the big RB is on concussion protocol this week and if that is the case the 9th grade TB they have will not do much damage against the Bulldogs. Thomasville defense has been pretty good so far and can run to the ball well and can create turnovers breaking on the pass once it is in the air. A bad kicking game has put them in tough spots with their backs to the wall the first two games. The OL/DL battle is about even with both schools being inexperienced upfront overall. I think the QB battle and kicking game settle this one. Can the Dogs Senior QB settle down and make plays against a solid Panther defense getting the ball to his teammates in space? Can the Dogs limit the running out of the pocket of the young Panther signal caller who is athletic and can throw the ball on the run. Dogs make enough big plays and hold on for the win.

ED-Lexington used to be an easy call. Lexington would run all around them with big offensive plays. The Jackets are struggling and ED is primed to get a big and rare win this week. ED runs the ball well enough and scores 2-3 times to beat the Jackets. The Jackets are playing young and it is showing on the scoreboard right now. ED needs this win as it is likely the last one they get this short season.

WD-SR was closer last year. The SR QB is athletic and can make plays on the run. WD just lines up and grinds the ball with very little passing game other than a short throw here and there. SR scored four times on the Bulldogs last week so I look for them to beat West by 4-5 TD's. WD has more athletic kids than given credit for, but the system is just not producing points for them to win very often.

East Davidson would be in a better situation right now had we not lost a great RB and our starting QB on JV last year to Oak Grove. The NCHSAA has let things get out of hand over the years with letting players bounce from one school to another. Just saying.

I agree they would be better, although NCHSAA may allow"bouncing" however Davidson County does NOT let players "bounce from school to school" both of those players/students left legitimately. One has a parent that works for the school,(allowed by the NCHSAA and Davidson county school system as both schools agreed on the transfer) and the other player/student had a parent that moved into the school district. Whats a shame is that the players from ED have won sooooo many games/championships at the lower levels against the same players but go to middle school and high school and lose. If ED was a college the coaches and athletic administrators would have been fired years ago!!!

What’s going on with East D athletics in general? Both basketball teams struggled , this year, fb is going to struggle and a lot of their other team sports are struggling as well. I saw west softball beat them pretty bad and East usually has a decent softball team.

I wish I new the answer myself. I have asked that question many times over the last 2-3 years. We lost two good football players to Oak Grove over the last time span that was previously mentioned. The football program baffles me a great deal. Year in and year out the younger kids are winning championships at the county level. It is like once they get to middle/high school there is a huge disconnect and things go south quickly. They had a very good coach a couple of years ago but I can't remember the guys name. He was brought in after Coach Hanner left for West Montgomery. The guy went 6-5 and after one year decided to get rid of him. This is just hear say but from what I was told that coach was all about changing things up and the assistants didn't want any part of it. Like I said, just hear say. He must of been doing something right to go 6-5. As far back as I can remember it is the first time an East Davidson team had a QB pass for 1,000 yards and a RB go over 1,000 yards rushing in the same season. This year they have went to an offense similar to what the Navy/Army academy runs but I still question some of the play calling. I still love to go to the games to watch my Eagles play but to be honest sometimes it is very hard to watch. The coach that Davidson County had a few years ago for the little leaguers was awesome. His name was Shawn Norton. The last year that he coached the Junior Eagles, they went undefeated and won the county championship. None of the games were even close at all. One thing I will say about that coach is that his players bought in to what he was teaching them. I will get off of my soap box for now. Hopefully we will get a W this Friday against Lexington.

The coach you are speaking of was David Hines and he is a personal friend of mine. I know exactly what happened to him at East but I will NOT go into it here! He is now coaching at Southern Alamance, his son was the QB and will be continuing his career in college. I think what’s going with the East program is quite obvious but maybe some just want to say anything. I won’t put my opinion and the facts I know about it on here either right now.

I really liked what Coach Hines did with my Golden Eagles the one year he was there. He opened the offense up and made it enjoyable to watch. On defense, they played with a swarm to the ball mentality which is not easy to get kids to understand sometimes. I wish they would have kept him. I'm sorry, you just don't dismiss a coach who goes 6-5 and has your program on the up swing. I know exactly what you are talking about when you say you know what is going on with the program and it is quite obvious. I have thought the same thing and have heard it from other people as well. Hopefully things will go well tonight and we will get a W against Lexington. Tell Coach Hines that as a fan and a graduate of East Davidson I thank him for the job that he did the one year we had him. If the opportunity were to ever present itself again, I would like to see him come back to the Eagles somewhere down the road.

Central played well! Hard to stop that offense and they chew up a lot the clock but they could NOT stop the down your throat play of Shewcow or the speed of Blair.

I know CD's strategy is pretty straight forward... but I can't fathom a team that doesn't even have a plan for a 2 minute offense. 0-2 last night in passing. Fine.

But they had several minutes at the end... and although the game was pretty much out of hand, they still ate up a ton of clock on their last possession.

But its time to pull the plug on Central's claim to be a strong team this year. They won't beat anyone good. They are a 5th place team at best in the CCC this year if they had to play everyone.

Yeah because they are both 3A schools playing in a 2A conference.😂

I meant more as a final game scenario to decide conference champ, but yes I agree. The projections didn't end up being what was thought a few years ago. Thankfully for Tville they are going back to 1A. I hope Coach stays fpr a while. The Bulldogs need some stability more than anything.

I know, just giving you a hard time. Right, stability at coaching has hurt us this past decade. You guys should be able to beat the smurf bears and take the conference from what I seen.
