Central Davidson steam rolls Lexington. Lexington is still finding itself, a coaching staff and has issues to resolve before taking that next step. Central has improved every year and the offense is a machine that chews up rushing yards and a decent defensive unit that can keep them in games. CD whoops the Jackets up front real bad, creates turnovers against the Jacket offense, gains over 300 rushing yards and beats Lexington real bad.

Ledford scores 50+ destroying West Davidson. West lost one of the only games they might have won all season last week to East 9-0. Ledford has a solid throwing and running QB, a big strong RB, excellent kicking game and good defense that will be too much for the Green Dragons. Ledford RB had 4 TD's last week against hapless Graham and he may repeat that task this week or topple it. The Panthers are not as good upfront as they have been, but have more than enough to topple the Green Dragons in another lopsided game between the two schools.

East Davidson uses that new offense and just enough defense to beat South Rowan. T/he Eagles rolled out a new offensive scheme this year that is built for their type of player personnel. One that relies on a pound and ground running game with occasional passing the TE getting open because defenses have to pack the box to stop the run. East always has big strong Offensive lineman and if the defense has improved can win 2-3 games this year. South Rowan runs a spread offense and struggles to score with limited athletes in that system. They lost bad last week and will continue that trend to 0-2 as the Eagles win in a semi close game to go 2-0 on the season.

Thomasville-North Davidson: This one will be good as both teams need a win to stay in the playoff hunt and have games coming up against really good teams. ND is 0-1 after losing a close game to 1A power East Surry. THS plays their first game of the season after a cancelled game last Friday and a short week of practice due to Covid. Both have good experience and the nod goes to the Bulldogs athletically as they have 5-6 players on offense that can break a long run or make a big play on every snap. North gets their BB players this week fulltime and has an advantage over the Dogs in numbers. North has the advantage over a young bulldog OL that has good size but lacks varsity playing time. Penalties have been huge in this game the last few years so watch and see who makes the most mistakes as that may very well decide this one. Heat is not an issue playing in March so I say the Bulldogs play steady defense and score on big plays to best North in a close game.

Salisbury-OG: OG got the big win last year over the Hornets, After that loss the Hornets rolled all the way to the state finals losing to power house Shelby. OG took some heavy losses on the OL/DL and lost a big part of the passing game with their TE going to college early. Salisbury's offense has shown improvement and has speedy guys to make big plays. The Hornets have several highly rated defensive players and are big, fast and experienced on that side of the ball. If the Hornets shut down the OG running game and force them to throw the ball then the Hornets win. If OG gets that big RB running downhill to set up the pass then they can win. I go with the Hornets as they are too athletic for the Grizzlies this year.

Finals- OG gets the big win over Salisbury!

CD 68-7
Ledford 33-14
OG 20-13
SR 7-3

Tville-ND TBD (game is tomorrow @1pm).

Got that OG team all wrong. They can play with anyone in this conference. Better coaching IMO

No doubt OG is well coached and has real good kids and support. The Grizzlies got a huge early season win and their maturity and experience showed. Big games coming against top CCC teams in the coming weeks will determine where they fall in the final standings. Solid offense and defense keep them in games. The Grizzlies are a team to beat to win the CCC and time will tell if they can win in the playoffs.

Ledford- Played two cream puffs so far. Seemed to let off the gas against WD Friday night. Special teams can be better and may hurt them down the road if they do not get that snap on punts and kicks in order. Solid defense and offense that typically keeps them in ball games. Big games coming against top tier CCC teams will determine their fate and playoff hopes. #6 is a real good play maker and the big RB offers a challenge to defenses. QB is underrated and can make plays so watch out for him as he continues to improve.

Salisbury- Big loss Friday but the Hornets are talented and will be contending at the end and still can make a big run in the playoffs with all those athletic guys and size. Offense must produce better to allow them to win late and the defense must keep them in games. Still have 2-3 of the most highly rated kids in the CCC and state so they will be good to go forward.

Thomasville- Special team issues are the biggest glaring issue for the Dogs. Bad snaps, limited kicking and punting game put them at a disadvantage against the real good teams. The offense has play makers and must find itself soon as the schedule heats up against more top CCC teams. The Dogs have the athletes to get into space and when they do can make big plays. QB has to make better decisions with the pass and run more. The defense can keep them in games and create turnovers. They run to the ball well but must tackle better in the open field. The Dogs can win some games, but must either move the ball past the fifty yard line or find some better kicking game real fast to beat top tier teams.

CD- The Spartans have that powerful offense clicking, but have yet to play a good team so the jury is out. They have the lightest schedule of the top six teams based on last years standings. The OG and Salisbury games will determine their playoff opportunity. If they can win one or both of those then their climb back to the top will continue as it has the last several seasons. ED/WD/SR will offer no competition so a 5-2 season or better is in line for the Spartans.

ND- The knights are 1-1 with a loss to East Surry and win over Thomasville. They have big kids and some real good playmakers in #1, #10 and #3. Will that be enough against the top teams is yet to be seen. The knights continue their trend of getting called for way too many stupid penalties and that will kill them against the other top teams in the CCC. A running game that scares no one makes them rely on the passing game. Shutdown #1 and force them to run the ball and they are in trouble. The defense looks like a big 3A or 4A school with some big boys on the DL and at LB. The kicking game is real good and moves field position in their favor especially on kickoffs going into the end zone. FG kicker can boot a 50 yarder so close games can be in their favor.

ED/WD/SR/Lexington- Bottom teams in the past remain there. Whoever beats the other will stay off the last place spot. ED has a revamped offense that moves the ball but produces no points against bad teams, so what can they do against top tier teams. WD seems Ok with trying to compete and not getting blown out in games against top tier teams. SR is spending the last season in the CCC battling it out for 7-10th place in the CCC. Lexington is struggling to find itself, an offense, defense and have lots to overcome. Plenty of talent and speed, just not making any headway to win games.

3/12 Games Predictions:

Salisbury-Lexington: Hornets get a big win and take frustration out on the Jackets.
Central-East: Spartans roll over East easily
Thomasville-South Rowan: Bulldogs rebound and get a win this week in a closer game than most may predict
Oak Grove-West: This one over by halftime with a running clock in the second half.
Ledford-North Davidson: CCC game of the week. I will take the Panthers in a close game decided by penalties and kicking game,

Would love to see a Lexington vs South Davidson game.... I think it would be competitive.

Great news! That matchup will happen for the next 4 years in the new CCC. It will be the suckiest of games. I'll have to drop in and see one. Is it possible for both teams to score less than zero? If it is... this might be the game to see it happen!
