OG vs Tville: the Grizzlies are seeking their first ever unbeaten season in just their second varsity year. Thomasville wants to end the season with a splash after struggling during the first half of the year. I have OG by a couple of scores but it could be interesting if the Dogs find a way to shut down the gaps and stop the run.

ND vs Salisbury: Salisbury is definitely the favorite. North will have to play out of their heads to win this one. Speed will be a problem for the Knights and if they can't get receivers free it could be a long night. Salisbury by a couple of scores, hope I'm wrong.

Ledford vs East: the Panthers will be pissed after the OG loss and take it out on East. Not even close.

WD vs Lexington: West should win this one but will need to execute and contain Lexington speed. West by 14.

CD vs South Rowan: Central offense should be able to score plenty against the SR defense. Central by 14-17.

I have a scenario for you smart guys. North will lose to Salisbury and then Ledford will beat them also. This will make their conference record 5 and 4 but overall 5 and 6. Central davidson will beat south Rowan and west davidson. Their record will be 4 and 5 in conference but 6 and 5 overall. Which team goes to the playoffs?

Depends on how many are 2A and how many 2AA. It’s possible neither.

Probably neither. Depends on the maxpreps adjusted rankings and what 64 teams qualify for the playoffs. Strength of schedule matters so Central would in all likelihood be ranked too low. North in the meantime has to win one but preferably both to go. I don't see it happening but who knows.

Conference finish also matters a lot. There are a lot of teams with bad overall records every year that get in the playoffs because of a high conference finish. I don't see sixth place from the CCC getting in, and maybe not fifth either.

I’m typing this more as a way to help myself sort this out (on paper, if you will) PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong.

- A conference with 9+ teams gets 3 automatic berths, an extra spot compared to smaller conferences.
- Those three schools will be placed into the playoffs one at a time.
- All conference champs are placed first, then second place teams, then third place teams (and there aren’t many third place teams, since most all conferences are smaller than ours)
- After that, they have to go to MaxPreps ratings to start pulling in the wildcards until they reach 64 overall teams.
- Because there will be some automatic qualifiers who came from awful conferences (looking at you, Mid-State 2A) there will be a teams well below 64th who automatically qualify
- After that is all said and done, and 64 teams are down on paper, They’ll draw a line right below the 32nd team. That will determine who is 2A and who is 2AA.
- After that is done, they’ll start working from one direction (east or west) based on the longitude coordinates of each school. Once they pass by 32 schools headed in that direction, they’ll draw a line and that will be who is from the east and who is from the west.
- FINALLY, they can seed. Of the 32 teams in each bracket, whichever conference champ has the highest MaxPreps rating will be the overall number 1 seed... Then they’ll work their way down thru the conference champs until they’ve all been seeded.
- They’ll do the same thing with second place teams.
- They’ll do the same thing with third place teams (although I went and looked. Only the CCC will qualify a third place team)
- Then they’ll seed the wildcards.

If there are unbreakable ties in conference standings, and I’m sure there will be, I believe the conference is in charge of determining who they will submit. Usually by a coin flip or drawing of straws or some similar method.

Also, in the event of a wildcard situation where two wildcard teams may be eligible for the playoffs. If a team who finishes 3rd in a conference doesn’t make it in, then the 4th place team can’t leapfrog in over them, even if their MaxPreps rating is higher than then 3rd place wildcard.

WHEW

Then the fun begins! Play ball

The top 4 teams will be in playoffs. The 5th seed in CCC will not make the playoffs, hasnt happened since the new CCC dont know why this year would be any different.

Well - not sure about this year but I’m fairly certain you’re wrong - 5 went last year because OG was 6th and was the first team out - Lexington made the playoffs as a 5th in the CCC

I stand corrected, yes they added Oak Grove last year and did take 5. I went to look it up and they (Lexington) made it with a 4-5 5-7 record. Go back the previous year and East was the 5th seed with 4-4 6-5 and didnt make it, I find issue with that no matter how many teams get in.

I wish East had got in that year. Coach Hines had a pretty good team that had 29 seniors but North and Ledford came down with 4A and 3A numbers so they got bumped back more than they deserved.

OG 11-0/1-1 is a 2AA lock.
Salisbury 10-1/9-2 is a 2A lock. (could be bubble 2AA)
THS 8-3/7-4 is a 2A lock.
LHS 7-4/6-5 is a 2AA seed.
ND has the most to prove with Salisbury and Ledford to go. Best case 7-4, worst case 5-6. ND will be a 2AA wildcard at best.
CD likely to be 6-5 but will have a losing record in CCC play.

Noone else has a chance.

As I’m looking at it, there are some really interesting seeds to be earned yet.

If Thomasville were to beat OG, that creates a breakable tie for first. OG having beaten Salisbury
If North beats Salisbury AND Thomasville beats OG, we are looking at a three way tie for the 3rd place spot at the end of this week.
MAYBE even more, assuming Ledford beats East (ha)... That would make a 4 way tie.

Yes, there would still be a week to go, so things would still flesh out a little more.

What an exciting year! Glad to say that it isn’t a 2 horse race anymore!

I remember back in the old Tri-County 3A days... North finished tied for first or second a couple of times I think. It came down to drawing straws. I think one year, they had 3 tied for first. Only two could go with the old predetermined brackets.

Also, the ridiculous highschoolOT predictions have Salisbury in the 2AA west. I don’t know whether to believe them or not. Someone else needs to give that a shot... They couldn’t do any worse than that site is doing.

OG- Don’t think THS have enough meat up front to stop OG Offense.

Salisbury- Defense will be too much for ND

Ledford- Coming off a loss to the little brother... will get ugly.

Lexington- They got to sneak up on somebody at some point.

CD- CD Offense way to much for SR to handle.

OG - Just too well-coached to lose
Salisbury - Making a move!!
Ledford - Easy win, ED has thrown in the towel.
West - Is this the worst Lexington team ever?
CD - I went to 2 of their early games and was very impressed. However, they seem to be regressing, BUT they are too much for South Rowan.

I’m pulling hard for the Jackets tonight! The head coach was really good in Davie County. Surly he gets a win in conference play.

I’ve heard really good things about him. I hope he can build something. Right now it’s got to be incredibly frustrating. I’m afraid that Lexington is going to get embarrassed tonight on West’s senior night.

Tonight truly epitomizes how close the CCC top five really are to each other this year.

Four way tie for second place now.

OK... So Oak Grove clinched tonight with the Salisbury loss.

4 way tie for 2nd... going into next week’s finales.

Salisbury will kill South Rowan. They will finish with a share of 2nd place.
Thomasville will kill Lexington. They will also have a share of 2nd place.
The winner of North Davidson and Ledford will also have a share of 2nd place.

That’s an unbreakable three way tie for 2nd. Drawing of straws to see who get to be seeded where....
Can the CCC get 5 teams into the playoffs?

It's gonna be close but I think so. North beating Salisbury goes a long way to improving their adjusted ranking. Now we have to beat Ledford to guarantee it.

How bad is Lexington to give up 55 to WD? Might be a one and out for the new coach down there.

Holman went 4-7, 6-6, 5-7 and 7-1 at Davie before resigning for family reasons I believe. He went 6-6 and 0-11 at West Caldwell. Not sure he's the answer for Lexington but I could be wrong. There are a lot more problems at Lexington than just coaching that hold them back. This year they can't even keep their players in the program. I'm no Jacket fan but hopefully they at least get a chance to discontinue that from happening.

I said on this site back in the summer that he wasn’t going to be the right fit for Lexington. I do not know the man, nor do I know anything about his coaching style... Lexington H.S. just isn’t a good place to be, and likely will never be any time soon. Terrible climate for athletics. It is going to take the absolute perfect coach AND a change in the culture over there or this is going to be a very terrible football team for a very very long time.

Could be a trap game for Thomasville next Friday @ Lexington, put em away early and get out injury free

Honestly... Lexington will play us hard if they don't play anyone else all year. That being said believe we take care of business and blow them out early. Can't give them any of of winning.

You can bet Cunningham will be fired up. After excelling for Thomasville last year, he missed half of Lexington’s games and has struggled to get anything going this year. But you can bet the guys in red and black know he can slice them up if they give him a chance.

West Davidson is so weak against the run (well, and the pass too)... Did Cunningham not play on Friday night? If he did, how did West limit them to 8 points? If I heard correctly, Lexington’s only TD was from special teams.

I feel so bad for Vonni- i was close to him and he is a true competitor who gives 110% athletically. I’d take him anyday. Poor choices put him there lexington will be a basketball force this year so he will do fine then-
