I’ve seen other discussions with the other CC games this week. Would love to hear some opinions on this game. Burns doesn’t get much run but I believe this is a game they can win. Haven’t seen much on Monroe but do know they are a good team.
Any thoughts or insights?

Burns has only lost to teams in Cleveland County and those teams are still playing. Those teams will also be playing next week I think. Monroe didn't play West Charlotte and that to me would have been a bigger measuring stick. Forest Hills was going through some position changes and trying to figure things out but outside of that I am not sure Monroe has played anyone to the strength of Crest, KM and Shelby. I do think Burns has been battle tested more but we have to play better than we did last week. Penalties and Special teams are extremely important this week and both have hurt us in the past. I would love to see the offense throw some short routes to get the RB's out in space. We did that a little Friday. If Monroe stacks the box we have to be prepared to adjust. There is not one coach that does not want to keep playing so I know they will prepare. This could be a big upset and I am all for it. Let me also add that even though I was a little frustrated Friday about us making a few mistakes and letting that game get close, North Stanly does not quit. They are actually much better on defense than I thought. Both teams were laying the wood.

Strength of schedule in non conference could play a big role.

From what I’ve seen of Monroe the last several years, they are really hard to beat at home and much more vulnerable on the road. Having said that, I’m not sure how this year’s team/talent measures up to the ones I’ve seen.

Good luck to Burns. Hope you guys knock em out.

They were very athletic but had not been tested the last two years.
Opponents records:
Burns - 60 - 60 (5 teams with a winning record)
Monroe - 37 - 69 (1 team with a winning record - Forest Hills)

Friday that will mean nothing. We have our hands full but even in our terrible conference we have still been tested much more. I hope that pays off. Between KM, Crest and Shelby you will not find much tougher games.

24-10 against North Stanly Comets and trust me when I say the Vomits are a bad football team. They are dumb, undisciplined and not well coached. Monroe is going to be a lot more like playing Crest and Shelby. They are very very fast. Y'all played a barn burner against them 2 years ago. But you are traveling to them, that's gonna be a little tougher. I sincerely hope y'all win.

Yea, I'm not expecting a win this week. But we knew this year would always be a transition year. When your best linebacker is your QB, you're probably going to have some problems. What I don't understand, is the last several years our passing offense has been screens and the deep ball. Which seemed to work a lot. You would think that type of offense would be easy to run for a non-traditional QB with a strong arm. You don't have to make many reads, just get the ball out quick with some zip on it. But we don't do that. Instead, we run, run, run, run some more then take a deep shot. That game against Monroe a couple years ago was a fun one. I haven't seen Monroe this year, but going by their history, we're going to have to play our best game and get a little lucky.

You described them as if they were Cherryville. They were 6-4 coming into the game so I think your opinion is more personal. They were not a great team but by saying "Vomits" shows me a lot. Offensively they struggled for the most part. They had two drives that were pretty good and one in particular ran the ball right at us. They were a little scrappy too. What impressed me was their defense at times. They were pretty physical. We definitely made them look better at times and once we got up 17-0 it seemed like we got a little too settled in. The coaches fired them back up and sealed the deal with the late score. They were by no means an awful team.

Maybe this will be the week kickoffs will go deeper and the opponent wont start every drive on their own 40.......

Not this week with what Monroe can put out on the field. They can run it back with 4-5 different guys. We may as well kick it out of bounds each kickoff if we're popping it up to the 35 every time.

From the 2 games that I’ve seen of burns I do believe they could mix in a pass or two more. I went to the KM game last week so I didn’t see last weeks game but I talked to some that went. They said the game wasn’t as close as the score was but burns should have won more comfortably that 24-10. Burns QB does have a strong arm and should have a chance to throw it down field more. If he’s your best LB then they did a heck of a job of replacing him. Not sure what grade the LB’s are in but they all hit and play the position well. I’m pulling for Burns this week and hoping to make it Friday night.

Forest Hills was still trying the tag team QB crap which never works when Monroe played us. Two QBs transferred in so they were playing both for some reason. The one transfer was a senior and should have been starting the whole season. Little over mid way through the Monroe game the junior transfer went down with a LizFranc injury and is out for the rest of season. The senior QB has been starting ever since and he has been getting better each week with the consistent reps he wasn't getting before. Such an improvement he's getting colleges looking at him finally. He was 23 of 29 304 Yards 3 TDs against Lexington. I think if he played the entire Monroe game it might have been a closer contest. The Monroe/ West Charlotte game actually started but storms rolled in and it was never rescheduled.

Burns needs to slow the game down and make it a physical smash mouth type of game. 3-4yds a play and drain the clock. Burns will probably need to take some chances on 4th down when it’s 4th and short anywhere on Monroe’s side of the 50. Get the game into the 4th qtr and start going play action. Burns needs to have a counter to Monroe stacking the box to stop the running game.

What type of offense does Monroe like to run? I saw they have a kid committed to Clemson. How’s the defense? Well coached?
Being undefeated I’m sure they’re a good team but as stated earlier they’re schedule isn’t as strong as Burns but that doesn’t all mean a lot.

The kid who committed to Clemson is Jordan Young. He's a WR/Safety ranked the #5 Safety in the state. He doesn't leave the field much. The QB Keegan Chambers is a problem not so much as a passer but his running ability. He threw two INTs against FH but we didn't adjust to his ability to bounce outside and that's what killed us on defense. Monroe will run from both under center and from the shotgun spread. It's just if you get to the QB he's so quick and is good with the misdirection. If you can contain him Burns can win but that's a big IF. As usual Monroe is full of athletes and speed but that's nothing new. Wish the West Charlotte game had finished you'd have a better gauge on how good they really are.

I'm just not very optimistic about having to play Monroe this week. If we play this week the way we played against North Stanly we'll get beat by 40. Just an honest assessment.

I said at the first if the year that Burns was a 2nd round team this year. I still think that's what we are, I hope I'm wrong.

But no matter what happens this Friday, I'm telling you the next few years at Burns are gonna be fun....

Monroe has given up 53 pts all year but Coach Devine will have the boys ready. We must play mistake free football for 4 quarters.
