Dear god.The fact that there has not been a thread created for this says it all. There was a time when this thread would create pages of nothing but great trash talk. If it makes it to two pages I will be surprised. No clue who the qb will be. I heard at Jans that there is a lot of tension around that subject.

The fact East Burke beat Burns and Shelby had East Burke 55-6 at the half would seem to give an indication of what is to come. However, it is a rivalry so it may be competitive for awhile.

You never know. Burns defense has played really well at times this year. (Holding KM to 14 points). This is a county game and both teams should have no problem getting motivated. Burns does have some loyal fans and I hope things start going better for them.(After this week)

No tension At all bomb because 12 will not be cleared for this game.....there is a lot more I could say but I will just leave it at that . In August this game looked to be competitive but 12 as well as Leslie , Allen and I'm not sure how many more will not suit up. Just those 3 represent 4 starting positions . Just been a tough year . Go dogs !

Burns 35
Shelby 28

Shelby cant handle our running attack and we slow down that Offense.

Now back to reality... This game looked to be competitive at the beginning like LD said but lack of depth and injuries have gotten us. Its a rivalry game so anything can happen but we will have to play damn near perfect and catch the lion sleeping to pull it out. I dont doubt our kids and staff will be ready and have a good game plan in place, lets shock the world dogs!

I hope your son is improving. Much more important things than football.

I think Burns has one more good half of inspired football. Just not sure if it will happen against Shelby or Crest.

Yes he is, my friend. No blurry vision or headaches since last Friday. We are meeting with concussion doc and school trainer to look at a timetable. Einstein's theory of relativity is easier to figure out than when a player can return after a concussion. We have seen concussion doc once already. This guy hates football and asked my son right off the bat, "you should look at playing other sports." This is the type of guy I used to laugh at but now I get it....But hey he wants to be back so bad and to miss the Shelby game is killing him. The back up, KJ Hopper, will do a great job. He stepped in and put the team in a position to win against East and that's all you can ask...problem is KJ is a leader on defense so there is another hole to fill but Coach Cog will figure it out.

I just hope no one else gets hurt. Injuries are trying to derail our season. We should get in the playoffs if we beat Draughn and RS. Still bummed over the East Rutherford loss. Thought Epps got in. All of Bulldog Nation thought he did except the refs. :/

Gotta do like Shelby, and get some refs who are part of Bulldog Nation :)

Shelby is beat up too. Last game, we were missing five starters on defense, and at least 3 on offense. Its crazy.

Are players getting hurt more nowadays, or are we just being more careful?

That is a good question open for debate. I myself believe there are many factors. #1 yes, people are more cautious nowadays because of liability issues as well as information on long term affects on injuries. #2 I really feel like kids are getting somewhat "softer" these days. NOT ALL, just some. If a kid doesnt feel like putting in the work or putting it all on the line, what is the easy route? fake an injury so he has that excuse the rest of his life (its easier to say "I got hurt or I would have won" than it is to face reality that you werent good enough). I have seen kids fake sick/ injury/hurt just to stay outa practices in the past, its a shame but it does exist. #3 kids do actually get hurt...the common athletes are bigger n faster than in the past and I think that results in harder collisions and injuries. With modern technology and research, we have learned the severity of a concussion, long and short term and must make sure we take the necessary steps to keep kids safe. On the flip side, I have seen kids get hit in the head with a soccer ball/ frisbee/ pillow and they diagnose themselves with a "concussion". Just the world we live in these days. Glad we have protocols for player safety. Back in the day, Luke Kueckly would have played 3 weeks ago...he is now healthy enough to come back as Im sure Barbee is itching to play but he has good parents/ coaches that are looking out for his best interests.

The important thing is for both Burns and Shelby to get healthy prior to the playoffs. The coaches would rather error on the side of caution than risk a worse injury to a young man.

Let's hope that both teams can come out of Friday night's game with no further injuries.

Good post Rev and I could not agree more. I remember in one year of middle school ball the players watched the concussion video. The next week 3 decided they had one due to headaches. Anybody who has played football knows headaches are part of the deal. Just your head getting used to wearing the helmet. Just this year I saw a player with a hurt ankle dancing around and hooping it up before a game that he sat out for...made me wonder. Leslie, Allen, and Barbee don't fit this category and all 3 of these young me want to get back asap. It may or may not happen for them. Barbee and Allen have next year but I hate it for Zack. This kid is humble, works hard everyday and the ultimate teammate. As for Friday night there will be a lot of kids in jerseys on the sidelines. Yes Shelby has had a ton of injuries as well but their backups would start on a lot of high school football teams in NC.

Very true.Shelby has a much needed bye week coming up and hope that helps.

I think athlete's bodies are just too big and their muscles and ligaments can't hold them together. Look at all of the recent season ending injuries in college and pros from jumping up and celebrating after a touchdown. We never used to wear knee braces playing offensive line but nowadays it's hard to find any lineman whose legs don't look like a robot with all of the metal. Kinda corny, but I wonder if milk consumption is down nowadays as compared to twenty years ago. Seems like kids are drinking a lot more juice and soda now than we did back in the day. You had two choices with supper....water or milk. Me and the elder were talking the other day about cramps and both of us could not recall a single time we got a cramp throughout our entire football careers....nearly 20 combined years. You can't have a single game nowadays without several cramps stopping play. Unfortunately it may only be the beginning.....
