Best Team, Offense and Defense in NW1A and MVC1A/2A

Who does everyone think has the best offense and defense between these two conferences. Thought this would be a fun conversation to have as all the teams finish up their regular seasons. Good luck to all the teams on your remaining schedule and here is to a safe and enjoyable finish to your regualr season and wild and exciting playoff season.
 
At this point it looks like East Surry has the best offense and defense in NW1A but I hope to see that change Nov. 6th, Bears have to win last 3 games beating Atkins Oct.23rd at home and Walkertown Oct.30th and East Surry Nov 6th away.

photo have to say the MA defense is strong after watching a game a couple of weeks ago. ES offense has done very well so far but still have room to get better as I am sure MA would feel the same. ES defense is playing better as the season has progressed.
 
E.WILKES DEFENSE RANKS UP THERE PRETTY HIGH WITH 4 SHUTOUTS AND GIVING UP 9 PPG..OFFENSE AVG RIGHT AT 40 PPG..
 
Let's talk about E. Wilkes after the Starmont, W. Central game. East Wilkes only test thus far was Ashe. The teams East Wilkes has played winning percentage as a whole is only 30%. So let's see how they are in 3 weeks.
 
And East Surry's team winning pcntg and strength of schedule..? Common teams S.Central..almost identical scores...im pretty sure S.Central blanked Mt.Airy...ok Ashe County whom N.Surry barely beat as well..and didnt Mt.Airy beat N.Surry..and again Mt.Airy couldnt even score on S.Central while E.Wilkes called off the dogs up 46-6..regardless of what you think and no matter the schedule thus far E.Wilkes and E.Surry are both undefeated for a reason. Im not sure why ya think that E.Wilkes will struggle with Starmount anymore than E.Surry did. And btw that Wilkes Central team that youre talking about hot beat by Ashe county by 4 tds. So really your logic is kind of played out.
 
And yes East strength of schedule is ok..but really and truly..how many of the teams that they have beat will make it out of the 1st rd of the playoffs..smae for EW..there kind of in the same boat...just beating the teams that are on their respective schedules...not sure if E.Surry could beat a W.Central or Ashe either.
 
LOL..YEAH RIGHT..IVE SAW MT.AIRY..NOT IMPRESSED...HAVE YOU SAW EAST....Thats your opinion..youre entitled to it..i honestly believe you have no team in that conference with the athletes that wilkes central has..I mean Mt Airy is your 2nd place team and gets raped by your 4th place team..and S.central got destroyed by the 2 Wilkes tesms that they played. So normally i would agree with ya..but not this year..
 
You know what happened the last time your Cards faced these lowly EW Cards in the playoffs dont ya....So be careful what you wish for..and they took your candy in your own back yard. E.Surry also barely squeaked by N.Surry...who barely squeaked by Ashe. Its a matter of opinion..you guys have a weak schedule whether you want to admit it or not..E.Wilkes is weaker...E.Surry has a phenomenal team this year..but posters need to stop down playing other undefeated teams as if it will change others opinions..lol it certainly wont change mind...I respect E.Surry..but you guys are known to have food teams that choke in the playoffs... E.Wilkes is just happy to be in conversation of good teams in 1A...no one is gonna let you spoil any opinion that the E.wilkes cardinal fans have of their team..its an exercising futility for you to try.
 
The NW1A can't be compared to the MVAC. Aside from East Surry, Mount Airy, and maybe Walkertown, Bishop, WSP, N Stokes,and Adkins who may be the worst team in the state. Please. Mount Airy is playing their worst football since the turn of the century and Walkertown has been a disappointment in my book. East Surry is really really good but they are alone in the NW1A imo.

Dont think ES struggled with Starmount. In the 8 games so far the ES offense has played 3 full games so something is working. I can tell you you might think Walkertown is a pushover with their record but they have athletes and they have played several 4a schools to be tested by the time the layoffs get here. Everyone should be proud of your teams for their accomplishments so far and we all still have a lot left to play for and get better

To East Wilkes credit they beat a phenomenal Ashe team who beat a good 4A team in Alexander Central and held their own against Hibriten and Watauga. Both East teams are good. Let both teams have their success because we really don't know who is bettwr unless they play each other which is possible.
 
Yes.Things are working for E.Surry..but its so funny how teams and posters want to talk about strength of schedule when our 6th place team beat Atkins by 50+..so yes E.Surry is good..but to really think that conference is so superior to the MVAC is really just resting on past laurels...W.Central and East Wilkes and Ashe would play with any team in that conference and Starmount as well..even tho you guys beat them pretty handily earlier in the season.
 
True True my friend..but both teams are proving it as we speak. The playoffs are like the NCAA basketball tournament..its whoever is the hottest and luckiest culminated over a 5 game stretch. All it takes is a key injury to these smaller teams for the hotness to be exposed.

Not really a Wilkes Central fan but I figured I'd throw my 2cents in. The WC Ashe game kinda snow balled on them as they fumbled on their own side of the field numerous times in a row. Ashe was a good team but that game would be completely different if the two played again. Wouldn't say Walkertown is "far m athletic" than WC either. Walkertown is a school in Forsyth County so th to the expected. East, Ashe, WC and Starmount could all compete in the NW1A. E Surry is a great team nobody is taking that away but they are not head and shoulders above everyone in the area like you think they are.
 
My mistake, I guess I was reading between the lines too much. Just stating at minimum Ashe, EW, WC and E Surry could all play neck and neck with eachother.

I can see E.wilkes clobbering s.central by 40 which they did....Did you see Mt.Airy doing that...lol didnt think so.
 
And Mount Airy may have had a wake up call that night. The next 3 game the Bears have scored 117 points with 2 shut outs and only 18 points scored against them. Young team jelling at the right time. I can see EW losing 1 of their next 3 games.

I would hope Wilkes Central and Ashe could compete in the NW1A - they are 2A schools. As for the ES/EW debate, I hope both teams continue to have success and are able to settle it on the field...but anyone who says EW has been more tested than ES at this point in the season is crazy. The combined record of the EW opponents is 19-46. ES opponents are a little better at 26-39. Other than MA and Walkertown, the NW1A is relatively weak...but so is the MVAC (see Elkin, Alleghany, N.Wilkes, W.Wilkes, and Forbush). Also, to the poster that commented on the 6th place MVAC team beating Atkins by 40 - a decent middle school team could be Atkins! They're trying, but unfortunately they are bad (ES had 1st string kids out to start the 2nd qtr, already up 42-0). We will see what happens over the next few weeks.
 
Ok thats fine. East has 7 or 8 sophomores on varsity as well. But photo thats your opinion..youre definitely entitled. But a 20-0 beatdown is far more than a wake up call..and really the teams that mt.airy shut out..lol E.wilkes would have done the same thing to them. I have saw Mt.Airy in person..and man i wasnt that impressed. You may be able to say the same of E.Wilkes...im not trying to change your opinion...just saying we beat a common opponent by 40...yall got beat by 20..and youre screaming wake up call....im calling it an ass whooping..
 
Dablue sorry if I struck a nerve. I'm only saying it's hard to tell how the two East teams compare. All anyone has to go on is there schedules.
Now I am a Mount Airy fan, As for the Surry Central game. I think the loss has in some ways has helped MA. Nobody knows how a team will react after there upset. I do know in the last two games there has been less than 10 yds rushing combined by Prep & Bishop.
So my question is IF East Wilkes losses the first game in a few weeks, Can they bounce back better and stronger from it?
 
Get it together Forbush isnt in the MVAC..And Is a big 2AA school whom E.wilkes beat by almost 40 too. So it is what is..so E.Surry opponents have won a combined 6 or 7 more games...thats a laugher and very comparable win loss records of opponents..E.Surry is the only team in that conference that is undefeated. Mt.Airy has 2 or 3 losses..and is your 2nd place team...You have to admit your 2nd place team scored 0 points against Surry Central again 0 pts...Ewilkea hit them up for 46 and W.central 30+...So its ok to jock ride E.Surry...but Mt.Airy not so much.
 
No nerve struck. But this strength of schedule mess is kind of redundant. Sure East Wilkes can bounce back...lol if they played the likes of Bishop and N.Stokes....after getting humilaited by a team that may not even make the playoofs in 2a. Its a wake up...but you guys are forgerting it was a BEATDOWN TOO..but the whole wake up mantra that you Bears fans keeping saying and singing does sound better.
 
Truth is you can diss Mount Airy, diss East Surry if you want. E. Wilkes probably want never play either this year. So ride that band wagon till the wheels fall off my friend. So come on back next year are in 5. I bet the minute they start losing your post start dropping.
 
Not dissing E.Surry. Im a E.Wilkes cardinal fan. Not a band wagoner. So no wheels will be falling off. E.Wilkes has as good a chance to compete as your beloved teams. Case closed to me. I know all 3 JV teams are very good too East Wilkes is undefeated in 7 games giving up only 34 or so points and scoring over 300. So the riding will be good for a while. So you ride your team. And I will ride mine. All 3 will be tough outs in the playoffs. Not really trying to diss the other teams. It seems as if everytime someone has something positive to say of E.Wilkes then some smartazz has to say..well they havent played anyone. When all these 1a teams around here play very similar schedules. And most face several teams with losing records.
 
what's EW's enrollment? good chance they could get their wish in 2nd round against either MA or ES if they go 1AA.....tough 3 game road for Cards coming up...good luck!!
 
Not sure. But maybe you guys get your wish as well. All 3 games would be good match ups. But i have to admit. E.Surry scares people waay more than this years Mt.Airy team. Just saying..Im sure they are good but a 20-0 drubbing by S.Central come on man. We would love to play Mt.Airy.
 
As an East Wilkes fan I will say that at this time East Surry is the best team in the area. East Surry has played a much tougher schedule and EW's schedule is just getting tough. Let's not forget East Surry also beat a very good West Stokes team. East Surry also has program history working for it, respect. History does not win you games but it does give you respect.

I would love to see the two teams play in the playoffs. The two schools have played in the past and usually have fun games.

I do think the loss to Surry Central helped Mt. Airy and Walkertown is a very good team.

Ashe was much better than I thought they would be even though I knew they had played a better schedule than East. Starmount and WC will tell the tale for East Wilkes. I look for us to beat the Rams, but I expect another close game. I believe this game will be won by who controls the line and the Cards have finally learned how to work as hard in the off season as the Rams.

East Wilkes will be playing 1AA, just like East Surry. This is looking too far ahead, but it will be interesting to see how the teams are seeded if 3 or 4 are undefeated at the end.

And folks talk about the beat down Mt. Airy took against Surry Central and they did, but who on here really thinks Central is better than Mt. Airy? I don't. If those teams played 10 times the Bears would win most of those games IMO. Just look at last year, who here really believes Elkin was better than Starmount? Yes Elkin won 26 - 0, however that Rams team was better in the end than the Elks.

I hate the term a "good loss", but I guess there can be.
 
Just to poke the bear here, EW is solid that's all that can be said at this point. Friday night against Ashe there were some nervous mistakes made that made that game as closeas it was. That would be changing the D to a 4-2-5 from a 3-5-3, or fumbles from players to throwing the ball in the first half. All in all the EW program is finding its new identity, simply put and in the next few years we will see if it's a one hit wonder or an ongoing team to discuss. Looking at the up coming talent and coaching I see this being a discussion over the next several years. ES and MA has had strong programs but this year ES and EW look like the top two and MA and Starmount the next best in 1A. We will find all out in a few weeks what everyone has. And to say EW hasn't played anyone is true but you play the schedule and win that's all that can be done.

E.Surry and Mt.Airy are good. Its fun to argue with old E.Wilkes in the mix. Usually this isnt the case. So very good luck to all the teams going forward. I really dont think either team will be an easy out for anyone in the playoffs. Lol go Cardsx2 and Bears.
 
Blueprint I too miss the old NW1A, had some good rivalries with MA ES Star and Elkin. Maybe EW can get back to putting them on the schedule in the next few years.
 
Hopefully the next realignment will bring us back together. I hear one proposal is for there to be a 1A conference and a 2A conference. I personally would like this as it would renew some old conference rivalries and the top four in each conference would be solid every year. The NW1A and MVAC play alot of non conference game with each other but I am sure there are other teams from each league that schools would like to play but just can't make it work with the schedule right now.

And to say EW hasn't played anyone is true but you play the schedule and win that's all that can be done.

Very true statement and with the exception of the North Stokes game they have handled everyone the way they were supposed to, soundly.
 
take north and south out and you possibly have the league come '17
