Best Rivalry

Never been to the USC v UCLA but have been to the other three. All unreal with big pageantry. OU v Texas at the Texas State Fair makes it extra special. Throw in Florida v Georgia in Jacksonville. Biggest by far in the Carolinas is Clemson v South Carolina. Tennessee v Alabama seems to have more hate than any of them.
USC VS UCLA IS A GOOD ONE BEEN ON BOTH SIDE LINES ..

Ole Miss and LSU are both absolutely great places to go to a game. I really like Oxford!

USC is a great place (The Coliseum) to see a big game but the Rose Bowl was a bit dead. Stanford is a beautiful stadium and no bad seats since they renovated it several years ago.

I did see Cal v Stanford at Cal. Memorial has since been renovated. Was decent.

Richmond v Scotland is better to me at Richmond and Shelby v Crest brings more atmosphere at Shelby fir me. Those two stadiums just seem to make the game a little better. Personal feeling only.

A couple of big rivalry games that were short lived but intense were Harding v West Charlotte in the late 1980's, Indy v Butler about ten years ago, and Albemarle v Thomasville early 2000's.

In SC Gaffney v Byrnes and Dorman v Byrnes have been huge along with South Pointe v Northwestern. Before SP opened I would have put Rock Hill v Northwestern as the biggest in the Carolinas. That one had it all!
Northeastern vs Edenton/Holmes always been a heated rivalry since the 50th's even when Northeastern was 4A and also when Hertford County was Ahoskie back in the 50th and 60th those were some bitter rivalry even today but Northeastern and Holmes are the real rivalry in northeastern NC today.

Opinions seem to be based on regions as suspected. This is kind of off topic(or a tangeant) but may explain why? Eastern NC and Western NC are like 2(or 3) different states.

Crowd for alumni game, what schools can put this many in the seat during the middle of Summer? No matter the age the rivalry stays the same, some nice hits in the video as well....

There are several great rivalries in the state of North Carolina.

What makes a great rivalry?
  • Long history of games against each other
  • Fairly evenly matched year-to-year
  • Epic battles over the years
  • Skin in the game (conference titles, playoff seedings, championships on the line)
  • Proximity of schools (not always, but typically)
  • Big and loud crowds
  • Families divided
  • Bad blood (from time-to-time - players transferring, players/coaches bad-mouthing, fans talking smack on message boards, etc.)

Shelby vs. Crest
Concord vs. A.L. Brown
Reidsville vs. Cummings
Tuscola vs. Pisgah
James Kenan vs. WRH
Murphy vs. Swain Co.
East Lincoln vs. Lincolnton
A.C. Reynolds vs. Asheville
Richmond Co. vs. Scotland Co.
Bandys vs. Maiden
Thomasville vs. Lexington
Butler vs. Mallard Creek (recent)

These are all great rivalries...
