Since this is the off season, I thought about this topic just to keep us coming back and talking football.

What is the best high school game you have ever seen in person. It doesn't have to be for a championship or any specific criteria. Please say what the game was and what made it special.

Mine would have to be a playoff game between AC Reynolds and Statesville in 2013. This game went into triple overtime and I think both teams gave it everything they had. Statesville's QB was awesome that night and ACR was running up and down the field as well. A tipped ball in the endzone gave ACR a 52-49 victory. It was a crazy game but one I will remember for a long time. I had one son coaching and one playing for ACR at the time.

A close second is ACR at South Point the very next year. ACR wins on a field goal with no time left after about a 90 KO return to set it up.

Page vs. Butler, Page vs. Mallard Creek (both 2011 at Marion Kirby Stadium). What made both special was the fact that Page rallied from big deficits to win both (and ultimately win state that year). The other special thing about those games was James Summers's magical performances.

Asheville vs. Reynolds back in 2011. We went into half time down 29 points and came back out with our back up QB and won it. Second best was the following year when ya'll tore us up most of the game and we won it in the last 10 seconds on a busted play. ;)

I have to correct you there my friend. In 2012 when we beat Reynolds at home the most certainly were never tearing is up most of the game. As a matter of fact, they took the lead for the first time on the last play of the 3rd quarter. We led 90 percent of that game. We went on to win 34-30

"Reynolds junior Levi Ledford called his own number for touchdowns on three quarterback keepers (7, 13 and 16 yards) and threw a fourth score (8 yards) to his favorite receiver, Caelon Rhinehardt. Ledford’s final touchdown scamper came on the final play of the third quarter to give Reynolds its first and only lead of the game at 30-28."

I would say the Hook and Ladder play from 2003 I believe that Crezdon Butler took to the house as time expired was the best game between Asheville and ACR. The OT in 2007 was also a good game when when Rhakeem Morgan led the comeback with Asheville down 28 to 14 in the 4th quarter.

those were great games i saw em all but for me when we went to richmond county in the semi finals they had a 44 game win streak and 3 time defending state championships we beat them 13 to 10 no doubt the hardest hitting and most intense game i ever saw

For years I saw a high school game every week and sometimes more than one. There have been some great ones and to think entry is $5 to $10. Heckuva deal!

Oh yes , I remember that game ..The FAKE FIELD GOAL WAS B-I-G....Cost us the game ...A lot of respect for those boys that night....BUT, the best game I ever witnessed was the Raider VICTORY over West Charlotte , after being down 20 late in the game.....Waddell 99 yard ko return and Denson diving over from the one with seconds left for the win....Yep, you guys broke our streak and our hearts that night...Great game , great call, on a very cold night in Raiderville.....Old Poss , pulled one on Barnes that night....Unforgettable.....nuff said...

Some great ones that come to mind

Asheville-Reynolds 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2012-great atmospheres with wild finishes

Asheville-Crest 3rd round 2002, unbelievable amount of talent on the field that night when Asheville pulled the upset

Reynolds- Watauga 3rd round 2006

Asheville-North Gaston regional championship 2007, ashevilles 4th quarter comeback attempt comes up just short as Asheville is stopped inches short on the 2 point conversion for the win at the end.

Pisgah -Reidsville 71,Pisgah -Tuscola 74,Pisgah -Sylva Webster 76, Pisgah-Burns 94,Pisgah Shelby 06,Asheville Reynolds 99,Shelby -Crest and Crest Weddington this year.

Albemarle vs. Salisbury High (1995) Albemarle won off a pick 6 with no time left on the clock with the game tied!

Not good with my years but..

Crest and Richmond Sr. went into a wild OT game in the mid 90's when both teams were the class of 4A and Richmond went for 2 in OT and won I believe. I was really little and my father was a coach but the image of a Richmond County player running down the field with his helmet off celebrating is an image I wont forget.

Crest and Burns in the early 2000's when both were undefeated going into the final game of the season for a conference championship. Tons of talent, Burns I believe had Troy Goss at QB with Josh Briscoe at WR and Crest won 17-14 scoring late and halting a good Burns drive as time expired.

Anson County came in to the ranch and upset an undefeated Crest squad in 3 OT's one year. Think those were with players like Travis Lee at QB and that era of players.

I believe it was Asheville who beat Crest on a hook and ladder one year to go into the state semis.

And of course those Crest/Shelby games were always full of talent starting in the early 2000's with Boone at QB and going through those years with Bat-Mite, Arsenio Parks, Brandon Spikes, Maurice Gualette, Littlejohn and Padgett in the backfield. It seemed like every year from 2000 on, the talent in those Crest/Shelby games made each one seem like a classic. And of course last years game and this years. Hard to beat those games.

Yea these are a few classic Crest games that come to mind. Like mentioned, im sure my years might be off a little so cut me a liitle slack.

And how could I forget the 2000 season opener between Crest and Independence. Classis game with Crest winning by a TD I believe. That was the last loss Independence took before going on that 8/9 year run of wins. I believe they might have ended up playing each other again in the state semis that year but Crest was upset in the 2nd or 3rd round that year. What could have been..

I really need one of you Charger die hards to come and clean up after me. If anyone remembers exact years, athletes, and details please do share.

I was at that one but think it was 1994. West Rowan and North Rowan games that season. I think they were all three that season. All went to the end. I would put North Rowan over that game because it was two undefeated teams playing for the conference title the last weekend of the regular season. Thomasville beat AHS in the last regular season game of the 2001 season with T-ville scoring at the end and then a two point conversion when they caught AHS sleeping to get on the field. The playoff game probably outdid that one. 1973 at the old stadium on Second Street and Montgomery Avenue. Lexington misses about a 30 yard field goal for the win but the atmosphere with the fans on the sideline at the end of the game was unreal.

You're right tango, I got my years mixed up. It was 94, when we went undefeated regular season.

Two that I would love to list are Crest 13 Burns 12 in 2002 and this years Crest win over Shelby. Problem is I wasn't able to see either of them. Same could be said for Crest at Ragsdale in 2001 or Crest at Richmond in 1999 in double overtime. Even though it ended up very badly some could make the case for Crest and Southern Durham in 2013 title game. But hey I got to see Crest stomp Forestview last season and Southern Durham this year. They were kinda exciting.

Mooresville vs. West Rowan 2002
Mooresville vs. Ragsdale 2003
Mooresville vs. South Point 2003

Cummings at Reidsville in 2002. Reidsville won 31-30 and both teams went to win state championships that year, game also featured two current NFL players.

Owen - Reynolds '94,'95 and '96 were all classics when this series was a more competitive one year in and out. All 3 games finished 17-14. Owen won '94 and '96. Reynolds won '95. To me the 96 game was the best. Went to OT...Owen got a field goal and Poss gambled for the TD on 4th down and Owen stopped the play short of the Goal line. What was nice is that was my junior year and a friend of mine transfered from Owen to ACR for that season (Ken White) and he wasn't able to one up us. He was sought out every play. If anyone was gonna beat us it was my cousin Kenji Lunsford but he couldn't do it either. It was an awesome game for me considering all the personal stuff. Hey back then it was truly a rivalry. ACR was the mansion on the hill (4A) and Owen was the cabin in the valley (2A) but we had some classics. If the factories all around Owen hadn't left this series would likely still be tight but the working class had to go somewhere. Beacon, Charles D. Owen manufacturing, Drexel, Bussman, Anvil to name a few all left. That hurt, so now we will take our once in a while.

Can't find entertainment like it anywhere in the world for that price! Best $5-$10 I spend!

1974 in San Antonio Texas. John Jay high school vs. Robert E Lee high school. Lee had won 49 games in a row. Final was 20 -7 in favor of Jay. 23,000 fans In the stadium and it was rocking.

1990 Concord at Kannapolis. Kannapolis wins on last play of game.
