Figured I’d show some love and start this one since I got the other 2 started. Why not. North Lincoln arrives at the 3rd round with the 3rd round blues is what I call it. Never climbed into the 4th level. 2 times they’ve missed it by 1 or 2 plays, unless I’m alittle off, by all means an insider fan can set any record straight lol.

Ashbrook looking good last night and congrats on being king in Gastonia. One fan says teams will have a time running against Ashbrook but hey, NL even though they lost big to Hickory did move the ball on em’ and they do have Wingate who has had a big season and a decent night against Hickory dispite the loss.

Expecting a crowd unless folks are out of town and still burping’ on turkey lol. North’s greatest chance to breaking the 3rd round blues happens this coming Friday. Any and all thoughts on this one?

Ashbrook will win.
Question, why was the Huss game so close for ABrook? I get it it’s rival and those things happen but they only won 4 games and 1 of them was against Draughn. I can’t call either game cause I see it being close and getting to the 4th round has been North’s problem so you got that working in Ashbrooks favor

Because HH is good, too….AND most importantly…. HH cared. They tried. Half their games they sleepwalk through. Some would say they play to their competition level, but I say when they are paying attention and trying they are pretty good.

NL’s QB doesn’t keep it near as much as SP’s. They lean much more on fullback and wings. And all three of them are really good. Don’t know how their o-lines compare but I did think NL was better than SP on offense when I saw them back to back weeks in August. I thought SP had a much better defense, but I went to NL game last night and their defense has improved.

I think this will be a close game, I’m going North Lincoln by 7. I hope I’m wrong.

You beat me in the pick ems’ or tied with me at the the top so your wisdom will be real appreciated right now lol. You going to the game?

Ashbrook is very physical on defense and they really swarm to the ball. If NL can't contain the qb from Ashbrook it will be a long night for them. I'll take Ashbrook by 14

Oh…this is interesting. So- they run triple option and use all 3 options? Might make a difference then. Hmmmm- this is a good one in the making.

Oh yes. I’ll be there front and center if I wasn’t gonna go to that one I’d be watching Crest to see if they pull off that upset. Come on Ltown support your county :) Holler at me if you go. For now I’ll just sit and watch the Panthers get killed by KC. Refs calling stuff on em in this game, Mahomes don’t know what to think lol

Haha. Only time I want NL to win is when they play EL.

South Point was able to move the ball pretty effectively on Ashbrook in the 2nd meeting and were driving well to take the lead at the end of the game. Had they have had 2 more minutes I believe SP would have won. The key to SP offensive production was the QB.
If NL doesn't have an effective running or passing QB I think they will have a serious issues moving the ball against Ashbrook. Again they are strong and deep in the defensive line and great speed covering the pitch to the outside.

Or if they run triple option .... and they take what Ashbrook defense gives them that is always the best chance while running this offense. Veer teams win most of their games every year doing just that. QBs are always important but you don't have to be the 'dude' and still be effective in trip option. I would assume that's why NL is running trip option...don't have stud backs on every street corner? Now, IF you have a QB who is actually a 'dude' then usually that is a state champ. caliber team.
NL's numbers look better and more explosive than SPs do offensively. I Haven't seen NL play, but just looking at carries and overall numbers it looks like they spread the run around pretty good. Is that what they do? I see over five backs have 40 plus carries.

NL does spread the ball around pretty well. Wingate is the fullback and he’s a beast. Agee is a wing and has great speed. He filled in at FB when Wingate was hurt last year and he can get the tough yards too. Folk is another wing with pretty good speed. Sipe is the QB and he executes the offense very well. Probably throws 4-5 passes a game. Nothing flashy. Doesn’t keep it a ton either, but he can.

NL has a game every once in a while where they fumble 5 times. If that happens, anyone left in the playoffs will beat them. They are capable of beating a lot of teams but they seem to be capable of self-destructing, too. I’m interested to see if they can contain Ashbrook’s speed.

Playing SP twice will definitely help Ashbrook prepare for this one.

I’ve only seen Ashbrook in a scrimmage. They do have good size on the line. I’ve seen North Lincoln play as well. They have good backs. This game could down to how many fumbles North Lincoln has. As of now I see similar game like Ashbrook n South Point.

My 2 cents based on you guys and my observation of how they played against Statesville (was there) and watched them play Hickory on YouTube.

That Triple O confuses even me like uhh who has the ball then I see a bunch of guys bunched up here and there then I see Wingate run it in all of a sudden. It’s flashy and Bazzel has a well oiled machine in NL with QB and 2 backs with a decent backup behind Wingate and Agee. The fumbles…. well they get about 5 against Hickory that could explain all the points Hickory put up. Watched Statesville n Hickory 2nd round on YouTube and Statesville had maybe 1 fumble and that could explain why they didn’t put on as many on Statesville like they did against NL but they still layed a whoop down on em’

NL when they held on to the ball could move on Hickory. Wingate pulled an 80 yarder on em. Fumbles against a team like Hickory, very costly. Fumble free against Statesville and good results happened. Statesville got em on 2 good offensive plays but they tightened up. When you run as much as you do and do this move and that move to get that extra yard sometimes the ball comes out.

NL plays Fumble free ball and defense puts pressure on Ashbrook this COULD be a one score low scoring affair victory for North. But like I said, they’ve NEVER reached 4th round so I’m sure that puts pressure on everyone and jumps the jitters up. Overall this should be a slightly higher rated game than Hickory Crest with all that’s on the line but that’s just me. Looking forward to this one.

You keep mentioning Hickory. HHS whooped their butts. If you stop their FB they will not beat you.

Yeah I mention Hickory and I always give credit where it’s due. I agree they whooped their butts I’d never deny that. Whipped NL and Statesville. That 2nd matchup, Statesville didn’t look like they were playing like they didn’t care, they gave it their all from what I could see and they were just outplayed. All I’m saying is the fumbles is what made the difference between a defeat and a slaughter.

Bring it on. You drop it, we top it!

Simmons has North Lincoln to win by 2. About what I expect. I think it can go either way. It’s going to be a good one.

South Point moved the ball effectively on Ashbrook in their 2nd meeting and would have likely scored if they had 2 additional minutes in the game. My point is that NL should be able to do the same even though Ashbrook will pack the box with 7-8 players.
Defensively NL has to focus on controlling the Ashbrook QB. He is very elusive. He will take the snap and almost in slow motion pick a hole or get outside and burn you. He is only a sophomore but almost single handily beat SP.
He has a rifle for an arm. But again it was mainly his legs we could not stop.
Final thought, I noticed in our game as well as the Hunter Huss game they hardly used their tailback in the first half but went to him often in the second half. He is fast and strong. It was like they saved his energy strategically for the second half.
Both games Ashbrook was behind at the half.

The holiday season can be tricky for attendance, but honestly in my experience, I believe that the community will rally behind North Lincoln and show up in full force. Their packed stadium will certainly make a difference in this game.

In both games the most common theme was that SP couldn’t score in the second half. They clamped down on what everyone in the state knew they would be doing and with the specific player. Pretty easy to see from my seats. The story was SP O scoring a td in each second half and the ashbrook defense making yards scarce in both those halves.
If NL spreads the ball around, pitches it, maybe throws it to athletes…they can easily win.

Trying to flip back and forth on streams but hickory game is just to high scoring and big plays
I think if North Lincoln can pull it off and crest upsets Hickory that would set up another home game for North I guess, but I’m not jumping ahead by no means lol
