Note: CalPreps computer makes no allowance for home field advantage.

Shelby at Hibriten

Hibriten Favored by 9 points.

Hibriten Trend: Neutral
Shelby Trend: Sharp Upward

North Davidson at Ledford

North Davidson Favored by 2 Points

North Davidson Trend: Neutral
Ledford Trend : Slight Upward

Brevard at Reidsville

Reidsville Favored by 11 Points

Brevard Trend: Slight Upward
Reidsville Trend: Sharp Upward

Southwest Onslow at Northeastern

Northeastern Favored By 7 Points

Northeastern Trend : Neutral
Southwest Onslow Trend: Sharp Upward

The Trend measures how a team is playing vs expected margins against competition and how fast that margin is changing. For you math geeks it is the rate of the rate of change ( the second derivative in calculus).

So, given these computer projections what say you? And please be kind to the CalPreps computer. It is a very sensitive machine.

Ironic that it favors N. Davidson over Ledford by 2 (at Ledford)....Ledford beat ND last month by exactly 2 pts. 9-7 (game also played at Ledford).....................

Well, what do computers know. They spend all their time calculating away:eek:

Will be interesting to see what Simmons thinks about these games.

Is that sensitive computer a millennial? If anything, the computer will hand out participation awards to each of the high schools who have made it this far (and the ones that were eliminated or didn't even make the playoffs).

The Mule, these predictions seem pretty sensible based on games played and some other factors.
I struggle, some, with Shelby at Hibriten. I got to watch both teams play South Point. Don’t know what to think about this matchup. I can think of some things that would favor both but for right now, to me, it’s a toss up.

Would not be surprised in the slightest to see a Shelby upset here.

Hard to believe I just wrote Shelby and upset in the same sentence.o_O

I watched the Shelby vs South Point game on my computer and I was surprised at South Point. I didn't realize how small they were but I see now why some who do not like them call them the "Red Midgets. My cousin once coached at South Point and still lives in Belmont.

South Point is usually big, on the contrary. They call them “The Midgets”, because of their blocking scheme. Their linemen go for the shins of the opposing team’s front seven. Think Georgia Tech’s blocking scheme.

If they teach offensive line blocking at South Point like they do at Georgia Tech they need to be banned from football.:(:(

I don't have a dog (or cat in this case I suppose) in this fight.....but I did pick Hibriten to win it all again when I filled out my bracket four weeks ago....but for those who have seen both teams: I would ask the question: Is Hibriten better than they were last year? Or about the same? Or not as good?....Is Shelby better than they were last year? Or about the same? Or not as good? If they are both about the same, I would say advantage Hibriten...If Hibriten is better than they were last year, advantage Hibriten, possibly even if Shelby is better than they were last year....For neutral observers that think Shelby will win, i'm curious if you believe that they're better than they were last year and that Hibriten is not as good? Or if you just have a gut feeling that they will play a special 4 quarters and either make more explosive plays and/or get the ball to bounce their way a few times....Is either team more prone to committing many penalties or putting the ball on the ground? If it does play out to be a close hard fought battle that's a one score game, it'll usually come down to who makes fewer mistakes...if there are no huge mistakes like blocked punts, pick 6es or scoop & scores or turnovers going into score; wasting a good drive, then it will either be who can get that big defensive stop at a critical time in the 4th quarter, or if the whole game turns into a defensive struggle, who can put together a key scoring drive in the 4th quarter....or else it will be settled in overtime where all bets are off....I watched part of the Hibriten/East Duplin game last year and still say Hibriten won because of the two TD passes where they seemed to catch ED napping, almost selling out to stop the run....the run heavy teams have to be able to pass, but not to throw it 20 times a game for 300 yards....sometimes just 2 or 3 a game for 15 or 20 a pop are all you need...good luck to both teams

I’ve seen Hibriten play only one time so It’s hard for me to tell much about them. On the other hand I’ve seen Shelby play three times. I can’t say if either team is better, worse or the same as last year but I’m convinced Shelby has evolved to it’s fullest potential and they appear focused. These are the intangibles but they have an effect.

Shelbys stronger at this point. We were banged up last year going into playoffs.. This year we are at full strength. More offense wepsons. Our D might not be quite as good but tgere special in there own way. Shelbys going in with alot of confidence too

Hibriten has a lot of confidence. Saw this last year when they faced Shelby. They knew they were better and the final score witnessed that. Very much the same this year. Shelby might win this game, but it won't be because Hibriten is intimidated in the least.
