Albemarle Spring Practice

What kind of talent coming in from the middle school, sway?
Seems like I remember hearing that they had a kid playing quarterback who could really throw the ball and had a very good receiver also.

Yeah, they had a QB that was quick as a cat and a good arm. Better than what we've had for a while, but too small to play on varsity unless he hit's a major growth spurt over the summer. They had some good receivers' especially the white kid at wide out, I haven't seen route running like that since Davidson Day came down and whooped up on us. But still he has a lot of growing to do also. If we have a J.V. this year, it would benefit these kids and the program for the next 4 years.

Kids just aren't built like we were back in the day. When I first got to high school, I was amazed at the size of those guys and girls lol.

Couple of questions anybody. Since the judge has granted a temporary injuction against the school board till the case can be heard. Now when will that be? Sooner or later I guess. What if an injuction is granted. What then? Are we back to square one? Courts and law is not my thing.
Secondly what about a coach at Albemarle. That's probably anybodys guess at this point. I worked really hard last year along with Russell Stone to get the head job. He really wanted it folks and was willing to make great sacrfast to get it. Then they dumped him like a hot potato. Something tells me the administration does want a successful coach. Hope I'm wrong but don't think so. JMO.

The judge will most likely hear the case in the near future. The Oakboro faction will present a case and try to prove that constitutional rights have been violated. The school board will get to defend their position, and then the judge will deliberate and make a ruling. After the ruling the decision will likely be appealed. This could drag out for some time. The Board has the law on their side but the courts might decide to prove a point.

This lawsuit shows total disregard for education. Anyone signing as a party to this lawsuit should be ashamed. This will cost the schools a considerable amount of money on a frivilous lawsuit.

I think the injunction allows the lawsuit to go forward which could be another year. The injunction stops all actions until the lawsuit is complete. After that there could be appeals. They are elected to do a job and one would think it would be hard to stop them. If it does not happen the new school board will not do anything.

I wish the current board would not have closed any schools and did a straight redistricting of the middle and high schools. If that would have been challenged it would have really shown us something.

What is the basis for the lawsuit?

I think even without the closing of Oakboro, the redistricting would have still have been challenged. The western end of the county wants no change. PERIOD.

It really matters how the injunction was written. My guess is that the Oakboro people will drag their feet, request a continuance after continuance, and just delay the process to death. If the injunction was properly written, the Oakboro people will not be allowed to take this advantage.

I'm personally fine with the school board closing down an elementary school, but I would have chosen a different one to close.

It is either Stanfield or Oakboro or Endy due to geography and logisitics. In order to close Badin, Aquadale, or Norwood they would need to close AHS so AMS could move there and allow East ES to move into the current AMS building for more seats

It is much easier to split up Oakboro than schools that are on the borders of the county such as Norwood, Badin, Richfield, Millingport, and Stanfield.

People complain that three elementaries were closed over the last five or so years but they still have room at some of the elementaries makes you wonder what would it be like if they left them all open. Albemarle has lost two elementaries already, West before consolidation and then North in the last rounds of cuts.

Rowan County is looking at opening a new elementary I believe but closing up to six elementaries. That is somewhat equal to Stanly County closing the previous three and then this one.

Heard a member of the WM staff who has been there a year is applying. Would a great hire. Can work with offense or defense. Need to get him ASAP.

I've seen a couple at the Y, but not that many..., they still have weightlifting as a class at the school...I hope.

Breaking news... Albemarle to go to 8 man football next fall. School board approves the measure. Local senator has filed an injunction to block the action. News at 6. (Just joking........although possible based on recent declines in enrollment, disruptive votes by the old and new boe, and our ever meddling state level folks.)

I heard you had expressed some interest too, sleehrat. Any truth? Will you be wearing the blue and white?

Oh the plot thickens.....

Spoke with Emory yesterday at the Y. He's about 6'2 now and probably 250lbs+. He would be a solid LB of DE if the new coach chooses to re-assign him. Said him and a few of his buddies where about to workout. Glad too see them putting in some self work.

In local paper tonight said it is against state law to sue the BOD as a town council. So the Oakboro town council will file a law suit as individals.

I live around the corner...would love to coach again...but....with the current retirement strings and such... "I choose not to run." (Translated: "We will be in a spread, no back set....".) No chance of it happening...but, it would be fun coaching from headsets while sitting in the NO CLASS CLUBHOUSE. lol

Looks like Albemarle will be behind the 8 ball one again in preparing for the season.

Albemarle will be more than behind with the 8 ball. More like the whole Billiards...

Daniel Coggins???

That's the only one I could think of. Coggins knows the program and played under Gaster and Baxter. He was the OL coach before he left and I believe he ended up as the DL coach at WM. He'll need a lot of help though...

Will it not be a former HC / assistant? Is that who they have turned to? The position AHS finds themselves in started last year in the coaching process.

There is a lot of coaching going on in that group but no more than in any other part of the stadium or stadiums all across the country.

Update... Sources saying Coggins withdrew. Not sure the reason, but may be one or two more on that staff with interest. One of the younger guys on staff who is a ball of fire and a real technician on the field.

Guys, this is how RUMORS start. I can guarantee you that Coggins NEVER submitted his application for the job.

We're starting May and still no coach..... lol wow. I love my Bulldogs, but man talk about being neutered. I hope to enjoy some games this year, but the chances for that is slim....

Murphy looks like close to 50 with some still playing baseball and one doing track. A good turnout
