AC Reynolds smashes Asheville and other MAC scores

AC Reynolds beats Asheville 54-21 and yall can post your other scores around here too although I don't know what they are.
Congrats to AC Reynolds on the MAC championship and a possible number 1 seed in the playoffs. Rico Dowdle is incredibly special, there is no other way around it. He is the best offensive skill player I have seen since Johnny White and Crezdon Butler 10 years ago. Every decade or so a special special player comes along and he is that. Never once did he get up and show boat and act like he was the man. He never got in anybodys face and even in the post game interview he only talked about his teammates. You pair a player like that up with a coach like Shane Laws and you have something special. I thought Reynolds man handled us and our guys just went through the motions as if they didn't expect Reynolds to be that good.
My Cougars are not a top 3 3A team like they were ranked in the AP poll. Maybe we are a top 10 team, but its hard to believe that after tonight. Our best hope is to finish the season 10-1 and get a 3-4 seed. If we meet Reynolds again, I hope we can give you guys a better game, but tonight was an ass kicking to say it nicely. Our defense has been an incredible disappointment this year. I thought for sure with the guys we returned we would be better, but we just couldn't stop anything. Going into a game with Reynolds, you know your only job is to hit Dowdle and bring him down. Its obviously easier said than done, but we were just awful tacklers tonight. Our players looked scared to be honest.
Offensively we were pretty terrible. I kind of had a feeling earlier in the year when we didn't blow out Franklin or Pisgah we might be in trouble. As I said earlier in the week, it seems like Reynolds of all teams knows our offensive plays. There were numerous times when we would line up in a certain formation and Reynolds linebackers would damn near intercept the toss on a toss sweep. It's like they were in our huddle.
The disheartening thing about watching us get smashed tonight was the attitude. The guys who should be leading this team were the ones acting like cry babys! I think Christian Green played his ass off and if it wasn't for him we would have lost by 60. I'm still shocked at how little we get Brewer involved in our offense. We threw to him one or 2 times tonight. One resulted in a 30 yard touchdown. I just do not understand it.
Congrats to Reynolds again on the MAC Championship. I don't think you guys will win another game this regular season by less than 30. Keep Dowdle healthy and who knows what can happen. Maybe we can come by RL Dalton stadium again in 7-8 weeks.
Oh and Reynolds sucks!
 
Good post. I sure hope the two don't play again until next year but I expect the cougars to make another good run in the playoffs.
 
I agree ahscougar1, we were in position to make the tackle numerous times and just didn't wrap up. Don't know what the deal is with Daniels but he hasn't been near the player he was a year ago. Outside of a few players, we just quit there late in the first half and pouted around. HAVE to get the ball to our receivers out in space more if we want a chance to make a run in the playoffs. With the offense we run, you have to play mistake free and execute to beat a team like Reynolds.
 
As far as I'm concerned, we need to run passing plays for 70 percent of our remaining games. You look at what happened tonight. The running game wasn't working. Reynolds was not going to allow Reggie Battle to get 200 yards rushing. They just weren't and like usual, we decided we were going to run passing plays all of a sudden that we hadn't run all year long against the best team we have played. From here on out we need to run our running offense until we get up by 21+ and then from that point on run every single passing play, every formation, every running play we have or we will lose in the second round because a team stops out rushing offense. How can you expect our guys to come out and run passing plays we haven't run in a game all year to perfection under game conditions? Each and every team a coach coaches is different. This team doesn't have big play threats in the backfield. Our big play guys play WR and we don't use them. We waste them by letting them run the plays in and out of the huddle. I feel bad for them.
 
I've been coming to AHS games for 20+ years, it's been two games I've been embarrassed to be a Asheville fan. 1. 2003 vs south point 2. Last night vs acr

As Asheville fans often say about Freedom...... over rated to say the least.
 
At this point, now that I've had time to sleep on it and calm down, I think some of our problems are fixable. With that said, I've never seen an Asheville team down right quit before half time. If this is the true nature of this team, I truly believe we could be in trouble in at least a couple more games this year. I have seen Cougar teams go into the locker room at halftime down by 20 and come back out and pumped up and ready to kill people. Last night I saw them quit in the second quarter.

Anyways, Reynolds and Dowdle deserved to win this game and we didn't. Congratulations to them and best of luck the rest of the way.
 
Congrats to Reynolds that was a complete total butt kicking! Good luck in the playoffs!

I think the Asheville high offense needs to make some changes. They always talk about how dangerous Reynolds is because their best player plays qb and touches the ball every play. Well think about Asheville highs best years the past 15 years. In the Michael Byrd era we were very good because we had a running qb, in the Crezdon butler era we were very good because we had a running qb, in the Rahkeem Morgan era we were very good because we had a running qb. It's not a coincidence that our best teams had a mobile qb that could get the snap and take off. I think either you keep Davidson the qb and go 3-4 wide every play and throw it 30 times a game or you make brewer the new qb and run him battle smith and shivers in every imaginable formation in our playbook. Having said that, the defense was terrible and lethargic to say the least last night. The only seniors who have impressed me this entire year are smith, Drummond, battle and green. They at least have shown some heart. The other guys look as good now as they did as sophomores.

He's just trying to fan the flames that's all. We kicked freedoms ass 4 straight years in our series a couple years ago and they couldn't win a playoff game last year in the first round and gave up 50 points at home. This isn't about freedom. They damn sure shouldn't be worried about us.
 
Anyone know what happened at the Erwin - Enka game last night? Did Erwin play their backups the whole game or what?

Until Freedom wins a playoff game they are by far the most overrated team in the state! I guarantee Asheville doesn't lose in the first round of the playoffs to a 5-6 team! We may very well end up the third best team in the county but that's one spot higher than Freedom would be in our county!

No as a matter of fact I heard Erwin was throwing passes with under a minute left up double digits. Not that it matters. It's not like any of our games are relevant anymore anyway. We are all playing for second now. Hopefully we can get a 3-4 seed

No one said it would be easy. Our defense was overrated and Reynolds is just dang good. We don't suck, but we have to make some changes if we want to make a run in the playoffs.

Rico Dowdle scored 6 TD's, so in theory that really is all you have to do to beat Reynolds. Can you show me a single post where anyone said it was going to be easy?
 
I mean no disrespect when I say this, but Rico Dowdle really is the entire Reynolds team. AJ Logan is a terrific back as well but alot of his yards are because teams are so afraid of Dowdle that the defense crashes down on him and leaves Logan with nothing but green grass ahead of him. I don't know how many times last night there was an option play where we would all go to Dowdle and then he leaves it with Logan and he gets a big gain. Those are as much Dowdle's yards as Logan's. In 5-6 weeks when this regulars season is over, you could see a situation where the Reynolds offense scored 75 touchdowns and Dowdle was responsible for 65 of them. Heaven forbid anything happen to Dowdle because Reynolds could be in big trouble if he ever missed any time. We all have guys that if we lost we would be ruined, but Rico accounts for more offensive production as one guy than I have ever seen in high school football.

Nobody in their right mind would suggest that us beating Reynolds last night would be easy. With us not losing to a mountain team since 2012, our 4 game winning streak against Reynolds and our 10 straight conference titles, Reynolds had more than enough motivation to kick our ass...and they did. We really embarrassed ourselves last night, but having said that, Reynolds was really impressive and well coached.
 
Asheville im sure dont suck, ive told people for weeks Ac is that good..
Hugh line, Rico another rb whos good. And a underrated D.
But Rico is what makes them go. ...i see Ac going deep in playoffs if they stay out of injury problems.

UGLY....Don't worry Cougar fans, Erwin played the ugliest game I have ever seen from them. They acted like they won by just showing up. It was that bad.
 
I assure you we looked worse. What we did last Friday at Reynolds was a disgrace to Asheville football. I know for a fact there were dozens of alumni in the stands (as usual) and to see our supposed top 3 team get annihilated was pathetic. Now we are ranked 18th in maxpreps and based on Friday, that's too kind. Unfortunately we won't even know if we have improved any until we play Erwin because the Mac is so pathetic. But then again, on friday so were we.
 
I think Asheville fans have definitely underestimated the impact of losing Paulk, Ray, and Jave, especially on the defensive side of the ball. If we don't get better on that side of the ball it won't matter what we do offensively. Same with Erwin, I think some of their fans underestimated the impact of losing Chancey, Jackson, and Williams.
 
My Golden Lions defeated ACR 56-39 in Week 2, but Dowdle was incredible, rushing for 296 yards on 26 carries, and 5 TDs. We've now played against some incredible athletes in Moe Neal (Forestview - Syracuse commit), B.J. Emmons (Freedom - Alabama commit), and Rico Dowdle (ACR - ?), and Dowdle was the most dynamic of the bunch...they were all very talented! We still get to play Tre Harbison (Crest - Virginia commit) in a few weeks.

How does #6 for Shelby not get flags for taunting after he scores? I thought that was automatic in high school.
 
And alot of it is how soft and pathetic our defense is. We were in position to make alot of tackles on dowdle and completely whiffed because we are afraid of contact. There are literally 3-4 key seniors that were better as sophomores than they are now. And battle and smith are not part of that group. It was indeed a bad night but most of that was how our guys just thought they could show up and give a half ass performance and win like they did against pisgah Franklin and newton conover. Any real top 3 ap poll team would have beaten those 3 teams by 40 and we just went through the motions trying not to get our wristbands dirty. They deserved to have their asses handed to them after that performance. Reynolds should have scored 85.

I totally agree. When I played for the Cougars I don't give Damn who it was we would have taken somebody like Rico and put him out of the game. How in the hell you let one player beat you. Because that's what it was one player. Our defense sucks. You know he was not throwing the ball but you still have both safetys 20 yards deep. Watched the film and we should have had him for a loss at least10 times. Right know it's all about heart for the Cougars. All you haters I promise you better not count us out. Just like Reynolds and all the others teams. You deserve to beat Asheville every blue moon. If you want argue check the facts.

We need ramhard around so he can keep us updated on havelocks players prison sentences and what their bail prices are set at. At least Asheville was embarrassed in a regular season game and has time to try to fix it. Havelock was embarrassed after the same idiot ramhard was talking trash all year to the crest guys about how they were going to kill crest in last years state championship game and then they were thoroughly dominated. But I bet if their players werent in prison they would have won, so he has that going for them.
