2nd draft

Have they even said, if it’s a 10 game or 11 game season?
I am gonna assume ten games until I hear otherwise ... With one less round of the playoffs, I can see the bump up to an eleven game regular season ... Now, let's get the playoffs figured out first ...

I don't envy the realignment committee's job at all. A close friend of mine who is a retired school administrator, served on the realignment committee once back in the early 2000's. He said it's one of the most difficult things he's ever worked on, and among the most thankless.

One thing that he related to me, and what I see reading all the criticism being levied on this thread and others... a lot of the comments on here are based on what the proposal recommends for specific conferences, counties, or schools, but if you look at the job they've got, it's a house of cards. One change may make things better for one school or conference, but that one change also may have a ripple effect that creates hardships for several other schools or conferences.

I agree that it ain't perfect, but what is? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

I don't doubt that it's difficult. But I've done this "process" by myself ad nauseum for several years now.

To me it's obvious that there was no clear person in charge to lead the team in a clear direction with concise instructions...if there was someone in charge, it was someone with zero experience.

Too many cooks in the kitchen and most of them can barely boil water. I don't want excuses, I want accountability for what was one of the worst realignments in NC history.

If we gotta start pulling in a third party to put this thing together analytically, that's cool. I guarantee it'll be better.

Hell I'd do it by myself for half the money and it would take a quarter of the time and have 1/10th of the problems.

Get it right, and if it's too hard, step down. There is no participation trophy. No one cares how hard you tried, they care that it's right.

They may well have put this out just to get us to shut up about their previous effort and accept it.
I actually like the new conference for Freedom, but I know I'm in the minority here.
Always used to wonder why Asheville and Freedom never was in the same conference nevertheless play each other in non conference

Appreciate your support for the committee, but perfection was never the goal. This last draft looks lazy, and disinterested. "Sorta OK" should be their big goal now, and its a ways off.

Hire a third party. Hire Simmons or Grizz. Or explain to your member schools how your proposals benefit them .

And give the blessed charter schools their own private conferences and championships.

Agreed!!!!

I don't think we realize sometimes how difficult people's jobs are sometimes and I respect the job these ADM's have because I feel sure it's hard!! I put together a realignment draft just for grins and giggles and it was tough!! Can't imagine how they went through the process!! FYI mine wasn't good at all that's why I didn't post it SMH!!

East Duplin's closest conference opponent is Richlands. Everyone else is at least a 40 minute drive with three schools 1 hr 20+ away.

I mean, I feel for ya, but if you look around the state that's the way it is a lot of places. In the conference we've been in for the last four years we have one opponent 20 minutes away, two opponents 45+ minutes away, and three opponents an hour and half away just by car, never mind by bus.

The first draft kept that same conference but added a two hour trip, and now the second draft has all those teams plus three more with hour to hour and a half trips.

I do not think East Duplin would have a problem with this proposal. They have been in a conference with all of the other members before with the exception of Havelock and West Carteret and those aren't awful drives. If I remember correctly, ED was in a conference with North Brunswick at one time so should not be that much of a concern.

Havelock of course, is a huge challenge in football, but with ED and SWO being the only 4a schools, there is a good chance that one of them will get a good seed for the playoffs depending on how they seed split conferences.

Was there ever a discussion about doing just 6 classes rather than 8 or was it never even voted on or discussed???
What I heard from someone close to the association is that years ago 3 classes were proposed statewide and then subdivisions for playoffs in all sports (which would be six classes for all intents and purposes). It would be a lot easier to make conferences with only three classes as well. But the membership voted it down.
