Seems like FridayNite missed the Atkins scores tonight.

Atkins 53
Andrews 38
We gave them a run for their money. 1st Qtr 10-10
2nd 23 -19 Atkins
3rd. 39-26
Final. 53-38

Bad passes and foul trouble killed us. Atkins stalled the ball with 2:44 left in half. Then stalled again with 5:00 left in 4 th. We had to go man to man and couldn't match up with their athleticism. Proud of the Wildcats

Sorry,I get most of my scores from Twitter and I only have less than half the twitter BB fans that twitter the scores and the some that twitter untill the get behind . Atkins ,& Winston Salem Prep is always hard to get even in football. Just curious how many fans did Atkins have at that game ?

We had almost as many fans as they did. I would say both sides had around Forty something and we were much louder. Lol. A school of 900 kids and a winning tradition but only 40 or 50 fans sad. It was funny that I watched their Lacrosse team practice. Really, this school is 1A and has Lacrosse. Lol. We can hardly field enough players for basketball, football, baseball & track. Lacrosse lol

About 50 fans is all they bring to Mount Airy football games. That is probably all family members.

Sports is almost an after thought. Highest academically rank HS in WSFCS system. Very hard to get in. Contrary to what some will say, they do have a lottery and everyone does not get in. They probably would be a 3A school if they didn't share school with a middle school because MS land was condemned. Required study halls right after school before they can practice. Most kids on campus could care less about a ball game.

Just my 2 cents you have a school that can attract kids from a 25mi radius. At a 1a level for traditional high school that's tough. I'm fine with them competing against traditional schools but there has to atleast be a multiplier to level the playing field. No system is perfect but a multiplier would be a huge step.

The funny part in all of this is that the charter schools that I know of would be in favor of it so I'm not sure where the disconnect is but you have an easy solution.

I agree that some sort of multiplier may be the answer. But the biggest issue with a multiplier is what do you do with a school like WSP, which only has 200 students, so would still be in the smallest class even with a multiplier, even though their advantage in that class is obvious.

Probably one of the fastest growing HS sport in NC. Along with believe or not, sand volleyball.

I agree but I don't believe there is a perfect answer. I think a multiplier would help. Additionally your typical multipliers go from 1.5-3. So if you took let's say 2 that would level it put it a bit still.

oh i'm sure. I was not belittling it just using it to show that their enrollment is so high that they can offer it when small traditional rural schools can only field the traditional sport programs. I'm not knocking Atkins either. The staff and students were all nice and showed great sportsmanship. Very nice facilities also

Lacrosse at a small school also, has to do with being in a non rural area that has lacrosse youth teams also. Heck idk but they may have more lacrosse players than football players. it is 10 years old, but one of the newer schools in the area.

Atkins is a GREAT public high school. If a kid is motivated to chose their school on high school basketball she would go to Reynolds, Tabor, Reagan or West Forsyth, all who have exceptional women's basketball, not Atkins. Athletics at Atkins really is an afterthought, especially compared to WSP.

Well it's time for my annual email to the President and Board Members of the NCHSAA about Charter Schools etc. lol. It's a tradition. lol

They need to work harder on allowing Atkins to expand even more so these kids that want to excell can have the opportunity.
