2A Marble Rankings

I saw someone on twitter suggest ranking College Teams by this marble ranking strategy so I thought I would try it out for High School football. It's a simple algorithm to understand so I thought I would share.

How it works:
- All teams start with 100 marbles
- If Home team wins they take 20% of opponent's marbles
- If Away team wins they take 25% of opponent's marbles
* If you play a team from out of state it is not counted (too hard to keep up with their marbles)

yeah, im not saying these should replace Simmons or Maxpreps rankings. Just throwing them out there.

Which teams do you believe are missing and i can check where they currently rank?

East Duplin, Southwest Onslow, Wallace Rose Hill, North Davidson, South Point and Shelby after last night.

Shelby is 2-3 and wallace rose hill has at least 2 losses to teams they were expected to beat according to arrogant WRH fans. They havent earned a ranking as of yet.

21. East Duplin(3-1) : 146 -> Home loss to Jacksonville hurt them but they are trending upward
29. South Point(3-2) : 130 -> Home loss to Crest hurt them but trending upward
30. North Davidson(3-1) : 127 -> hasn't played against an opponent with >100 marbles
45. Southwest Onslow(2-2) : 105 -> Recent home loss to ED hurt them
52. Shelby(2-3) : 89 -> 4th toughest schedule in 2A so far in regards to opponent's average marble count, hasn't lost a home but hasn't won away
55. Wallace-Rose Hill(2-2) : 87 -> losing to teams with >100 marbles and winning against teams <100 marbles

Valid if all teams had played the same number of home and away games.

Also penalizes teams that play a very difficult schedule.

Hibriten number 1. I ain’t sold on ERutherford even though they are good, the defense allowed too many yards against an avg 4A South Caldwell.

West Lincoln ain’t even played anybody yet so ain’t sold on them either lol. We’ll find out Friday when they actually have a real test. Can’t see them losIng but if they even keep this game close they need to come off that list. No disrespect man lol

West isn't even in the conversation. It's the same story with them. Play a weak nonconference schedule and then get smoked in conference play. Anybody can look good against Draughn and Foard.

They might be better than a lot of people think , Hibriten has a cupcake schedule too from top to bottom and still won the gold last year and more than likely will this year. I’ll give West credit were it’s due but I wouldn’t go ranking them on anything yet

These ratings do not take into account strength of schedule or whether all teams have played the same number of games home and away.

I believe this is why these type rankings make more sense at the college level where it's all about being top four and very few teams are undefeated by the end of season.

It also penalize teams more for losing later in the season.

At the high school level there is a lot of inter-divisional play as well that throws off this type of system.

I'll come back to this in a month and see where teams stand.

For many years E Rutherfordton has been nothing but a Homecoming game for most. One good start of a season doesn't put them 1 in the state. Glad they are doing well - but not #1.

ER use to field some good teams back in the old Southwestern 3A days.

If they upset Hibriten...def got my vote for number 1 ha ha. But I don’t see it happening and they gave up ALOT of yards to South Caldwell. Now mind you SCaldwell is not a bad 4a team, their 3 losses came against ranked teams ERutherford included and can very well show up in conference play and surprise some people. They moved the ball on Hibriten too but didn’t capitalize. 1st or 2nd round and done but not a bad team but ER woulda had to stuff them hard to get a number 1.

WLincoln will have a lot to prove this Friday. If they crush NLincoln, I mean by like 4 scores or more then yeah they prob could stay in their spot. We’ll see

Looks to be as accurate as any of the other polls. Keep tracking for the rest of the year and let's see how it plays out. Just don't lose your own marbles in the process.
