Shrewsbury, Mass., and Cherryville, N.C., will each host two regional tournaments the next two years.

The American Legion National Executive Committee (NEC) approved dates and locations for American Legion Baseball’s 2026 and 2027 regionals at the Spring Meetings in Indianapolis, May 7-8.

The eight regionals which feed into the American Legion World Series (ALWS) will take place Aug. 5-9, 2026, and Aug. 4-8, 2027. The 2027 ALWS will be the 100th edition of the championship tournament; while American Legion Baseball celebrates its centennial in 2025, the first ALWS took place in 1926 but there was no tournament in 1927 (financial constraints) or 2020 (the COVID-19 pandemic).

The sites for the 2026 and 2027 regional tournaments are:

Region 1 (Northeast): Shrewsbury, Mass.

Region 2 (Mid Atlantic): Shrewsbury, Mass.

Region 3 (Southeast): Cherryville, N.C.

Region 4 (Mid South): Cherryville, N.C.

Region 5 (Great Lakes): Lexington, Ky.

Region 6 (Central Plains): Fargo, N.D.

Region 7 (Northeast): Medford, Ore.

Region 8 (Western): Fairfield, Calif.

So I guess this means Asheboro is out. Was this their choice or did Cherryville out bid them.

Also, I assume cherryville can't be the host team for both regionals. How will they determine which state gets two teams?

Some more info about how Cherryville will host the two regionals.

Cherryville’s Fraley Field will host the Southeast and Mid-South regionals with the help of Gastonia’s Sims Legion Park during the Aug. 5-9, 2026 and Aug. 4-8, 2027 regionals.

The majority of the Southeast and Mid-South games, including the championship contests, will be held in Cherryville with Gastonia hosting some early-round contests. Tentative plans are for all the semi-final and championship games to be played at Fraley Field the final two two days of the tournaments.

were in region2 now were in region 3?
Well, Region 2 which is the Mid-Atlantic Region was held in Asheboro in 2019. Of course, that meant for that particular year a NC team was in the Region 2 regional tournament. Since then, it's been NC in Region 3.

Cherryville hosting two regionals, Wow ! That's going to be a treasure chest for anyone who enjoys American Legion baseball.
It sure it. Lots of excitement in Cherryville. With teams from 14 different states coming into Gaston County there is going to be a big impact for local businesses and a time to showcase the Cherryville baseball stadium and all the improvements that have been made.

Linkman, those players and fans from outside this area haven't had anything as tasty as sandwiches from the Shake Shop and Black's Grill, not to mention some of the other establishments. Lincolnton and Shelby has some good places, too.
Also, thanks for your contributions to American Legion baseball.
