2019 Mountian Six (Info, Thoughts, Predictions) thread....

Since no one else will give it a shot I'll try. My Bears should be pretty good this year. Couple of big backs plus some speed along with a QB that's in his second year, plus the fact that the other four sophomores and freshman that started last year are back. Lost most of our defense from last year so hopefully, our JV that went undefeated will fill those slots. Franklin, Smoky, and Brevard have to come to Canton.
Brevard lost a lot from last year. Will have to find them a QB.
Franklin-Should be better than last year if they can find a QB and another big running back.
Smoky -Is a team that can make a run for conference top spot with the Frady kid, runs straight ahead and hard to bring down. They have to play at Canton and Brevard ,not good. Do get Franklin at home.
Hendersonville -Don't know much about them except they only lost ten seniors from last year.
East-Winless in the conference last year, will be lucky to win one this year.
My picks for conference
Pisgah
Smoky
Franklin
Hendersonville
Brevard
East.

Pisgah
Hendersonville
Smoky Mnt
Brevard
Franklin
East Hendo

Would be my best guess, I’d say everyone has a chance to win with the exception of East Henderson, but definitely the toughest conference from top to bottom in WNC.

Honestly, I think that 5 out of the 6 are pretty well even. Pisgah vs Mtn Heritage will be a fun one, along with Murphy. I don't believe Pisgah will be as strong up front on D as last year's squad but the secondary is looking good from what I hear. Hopefully the Qb has matured some.

Too early early to tell but from what I seen last year, and depending on this year's depth, I look for there to be three dominant teams in the M6 this year. Pisgah, Smokey, and Brevard. That's just guessing however, once summer practice starts, things will be in better view. I would assume that most of the strengths of these three teams will be close to even and will match up well which will make for a heck of battle on the gridiron. Hopefully, my Bear's will have an advantage or two by August, but we'll see.

Well Cane, what's your take on the Panthers this year? Y'all bringing back a lot of players?

I'm to far removed to give any more insight than you already probably know. I'm hoping some of our more well connected posters will chime in!

Almost that time, i am so excited. Everywhere i go everyone ask me who is the team to beat, who are the surprise teams. If you were on the board last season , you will know that all my predictions came true. Man love being right all the time. OK guys here is the picks.

The top spot is between 2 teams Smokey and Pisgah. Both teams are very different, Pisgah little stronger up-front, Smokey more athletes .
1- Smokey MTN those boys have Jackson County pump, feels like the streeter days. Mustangs are the best coach team in the league
2- Pisgah will very solid this season, better then last year, the o-line will be better, i predict the coaching staff will finally realize they don't have the athletes for passing game, go back to power football.
3-Franklin lost lot of players from last season, decent jv team moving up. Not on Smokey or Pisgah level.
4- Brevard lost everything my opinion if their qb didn't get hurt they were best team last year.
5- Hendo
6-East

Overall Smokey and Pisgah are top dogs this year, Hen and Franklin,Brevard not on that level.

Smokey comes to us this year and we will have our work cut out for us. If our offense finds it's stride and if our defense is anywhere comparable to last year's, Smokey will need to pack a lunch. I believe the decisive part of our season will be our defense again this year although our offense has good potential with the things we are doing this year. Our entire front of the defense graduated Friday night. We won't know nothing for sure till the helmets start banging.
We will have four very hard battles before Smokey comes to town though, if we come through those well, the Mustangs may be in trouble.

Brevard just lost their OC to Tusculum College. Will be interesting to see who takes his place.

Regardless - I'd be surprised if Brevard doesn't rely heavily on the run this season. They'll return most of their O-line that was dominant at times last year, their best RB in Rathbone, and likely a running QB (starting job still TBD).

Secondary and WR are my biggest question marks. I feel pretty good about both lines and our LB's.

Franklin lost a lot of key contributors off of a team that wasn't that deep. A lot of youth and inexperience will be tested with two tough early season games. Hopefully a decent non-conference schedule will get us primed to not have a losing record in conference again this year, which would be the first time to repeat losing conference records since '92. From how everybody else is talking about the other conference teams and what I saw last year, it sounds like Pisgah and Smoky are definite favorites over us but Brevard and Hendersonville are toss ups until we get on the field. With a pretty decent JV team moving up we may have some surprises though.

SG, any idea on varsity numbers? Last year we were pretty light for the first time in a long time!

I don't know. Low turnout is particularly hard on a program like Franklin that has to squeeze every bit of blood out of the turnip, and we saw that last year. Hopefully it was just a weird year.

1. Smoky- Brindley has the Mustangs ready!
2. Pisgah- Tradition
3. Franklin- Brooks Brothers
4. Brevard- Could finish higher
5. Hendersonville- Lost several great athletes
6. East Henderson- Never recovered from losing Coach Chappell

If we had Smoky wk 4 instead of wk 1 I think we take it but week 1 in Jackson co will not benefit us any. I'll give Smoky the edge.

Even though I've seen a lot of animosity on NC Preps towards them, you can bet Christ School will make some noise. Best public school team in WNC I agree with Big Bear, ACR consistently makes a showing. Several other wildcards though.

CS has a good football team, but every other high school team would be even better this fall if they had all their seniors playing another year. It's not even comparable. I do believe AC will field the best football team in WNC this season. It's the next 9 that will be fun to see unfold throughout the year.

Article in the Franklin Press gave some information for the Panthers. Looks like we will be really young this year, although the total number may be a little better than last year. The paper said that 41 of the 48 kids going to the first 7 on 7 were not seniors (included JV kids I think.) There are two options for QB, one is a senior and one is a sophomore. The senior was a JV QB a couple years ago, and will play LB this year also. You probably saw him some at FB last year, he was #1 I believe. The younger kid will play cornerback. From the sound of the article, you may see Franklin air it out some like last year.

I still think Franklin starts out a little rough but finishes strong. This year may be setting up a much stronger year next year with all of the non-seniors getting reps and starting positions.
