Dang, another bad draw for East Surry and Mt.Airy if that conference holds up through the appeals. I was really hoping they would get back to the conference with Starmount, Elkin, E.Wilkes, and Alleghany. It was great back in the years of having ES, MA, Starmount and Elkin all good in football and battling for a conference title!
A lot of people were hoping for that. This is why the NW1A gets called a week conference. NCHSAA don't care about gates till playoffs ...............................
Conference A has 12 teams and if all football schools that is as dumb as this realignment. LOL
NW1A all the west needs to pull out and start what we had in 1968 a western org independent of the east with each doing there own realignments and face east against west in the play offs. Kinda like the NFC & AFC independent of each other.

The conference is exactly as it currently exist. It has 4 non football playing schools.
Yes, this will lead to a weak NW1A conference in many sports, not just football. South Stokes serves as the replacement for Walkertown (Atkins hasn't really excelled in anything other than Women's Basketball, and that has only been in the last year). South has traditionally been weaker in football and compared to Walkertown (and their recent success) they will be a downgrade in football.
Would hate to lose Polk from the WHC, they have been a great addition to the conference since they joined. They have been a class program in all sports and have traveled well despite long drives to other schools. Just felt like they have been a good fit and would even the split conference back out a little more joining Mitchell and Avery as 1a's while the others are 2a.

1998 Pre West Stokes SS was 3A --- @ 1509 and dropped to 2A when West Stokes opened
I think North and South bothhave coaches in place that can win game and make them competitive week in and week out. We saw some good seasons from South in few years back, and Reeves really did a heck of a job at North Stokes this year.
Manteo unfortunately needs to be in Conference G, how can they drive thru Columbia and Creswell to get to Plymouth but not be in the conference withr them? They also are closer to Ocracoke and Cape Hatteras then anybody.. Not sure how to fix this, but, these Conferences are horrible IMHO..
I honestly think Manteo needs to be moved into Conference G and Tarboro moved into Conference H from Conference I. I think it should look like this...

It's nice to see that MA isn't the only one not happy this time. I hope seriously that if the group gets going like as mentioned here in the article they could get a good amount of schools interested. But like our AD said it's going to take a lot of schools from around here to fix it and some probably won't budge. I'm hoping for the best but knowing the history of the NCHSAA and their realignments they make it rough on some areas for a while before fixing it years down the line, so I'm not expecting miracles but it would be nice if it somehow happens.

Pretty much. South will benefit by going down a level so they won't be cannon fodder for Carver, West, Us and Central anymore. They had a decent JV squad that will win a few in the northwest and get them in the 1A playoffs in a couple years. Will they be 2012 good? Nope but they will be middle of the conference behind East, MA, and Prep. But all this move is doing is making the northwest a 2 team conference every year. That will make little drama every year unless Prep gets spectacular all of a sudden which I doubt but who knows.
Atkins taking South's spot won't do anyone any good in the WPAC in terms of competition or gate. I just hope they field teams every year or else it will be rough. They didn't field a JV squad for some years due to lack of interest until a couple of years ago.

NCHSAA is tearing down the football traditions everywhere. People want to pay and set out in the cold for good games, not blow outs . It gets worse on each realignment. The schools have the power and say, get together and USE IT ! I think a lot of people will be done if this new realignment for are area stays as they have it. Sick of the NCHSAA not willing to give in to what the schools want when it works .

people will quit traveling to the games of the week teams only to see a running clock by half time.Also the weak teams don't bring a goog gate , not even a fair gate when they for see a blow out . If N & S Stokes don't get it together , that is what we will see from the top teams East Surry ,Mount Airy and probably WSP by 2017 - 2021 NW1A is loaded with weak teams and people are not traveling 30 to 40 minutes to see a blow out. Anyone that supports the NCHSAA does not support the schools . Football supports most of the other sports . N.Stokes has only beat Mount Airy 1 time in the history of around 50 years and that was 1995 I think. JMO And it don't matter to people that are out side the NW1A so I don't expect out siders to understand.
I think the western schools should vote on this and forget the NCHSAA and have a Eastern org and Western org like the 60s and before. Again JMO
Wasn't one of the issues that the Surry County schools had last time was that the MVC didn't want them either? And, that was in addition to North Stokes demanding to be attached to MA and East.
I don't see why any of that is going to change this time around.
When you've got 20-30 schools that would be effected by what Surry County wants but only the Surry County schools are really pushing for it, they're probably not going to get their way.
Probably the best option for EVERYONE would be to leave the Mountain Valley as is, create a 1A/2A league for Stokes/Surry County (MA, North Surry, ESurry, Surry Central, West Stokes, North Stokes, Forbush) and a 1A/2A Forsyth County league (Walkertown, Atkins, Bishop, Prep, Carver and Team X (maybe a charter school or someone like Andrews).
That solves everything, but runs contrary to the NCHSAA's desire to not use split leagues. If they stick with that position, then it won't matter how much certain schools stomp their feet, this initial draft will ultimately stick.

The headlines in the Mt. Airy News "Local schools unhappy with first NCHSAA proposal". In the article "Price acknowledged that some of Mt. Airy's local rivals are perfectly content with the latest proposal for the NCHSAA". Just Mt.Airy being Mt.Airy...lol.
How long before you start whining how there isn't a true state champion under your format? Yep, let's go back to the mid-60's to answer the "problem".
Look, no plan is going to be perfect and this proposal is exactly that, a proposal. Left to their own devices, a of schools would never be able to come up with a plan on their own. Somebody's ox is going to get gored. It always does.
Polk and Rosman are always outliers in our area and there is no easy way to fix it. They deal with this every realignment.

Edenton, Plymouth, Tarboro, Riverside, South Creek, North Edgecombe, Northside, Southside would be a better fit conference. Tarboro has no business in the proposed conference. They will be the only 1AA school in that conference. Also, only constant JV sport that will be offered is JV Basketball. This conference will be a great one to put together and could maintain its title as the 2 Rivers Conference. Hoping there are some more consideration and read proposals on these websites to help come up with a different proposal
Or, that's just a man being honest. If you were North Stokes would you want to go into a 1A/2A split with West Stokes, Carver, Walkertown, Prep, Bishop, and Atkins? Probably not. They would get drubbed every year in the major sports (football, basketball, baseball) AND have terrible gates. Remember, N.Stokes and their former AD are the reason behind the current conference - all the Surry (1A and 2A) schools along with West Stokes were content to keep the old NW1A/2A. As a result, ES and MA have had to suffer the poor gates and poor competition (basketball excluded) associated with Atkins and Prep. Unfortunately too, the Surry schools don't get an athletic stipend from their system to help them, unlike the WS schools.
the thing that MA and some of the others would like to get back is some of the natural rivalries ....that's not and will not happen with the WS area schools...no disrespect, it's just not there....got murdered at the gates in this conference....can't take another hit like that...plus Prep is a scheduling nightmare..QUESTION: is it true that in WSFCS, that non conference gates are split during football season??
All football games, be it conference or non conference are split. Why else would Walkertown want to play West Forsyth. The game was played at West and they probably made more money than at any home game they played and no work required. That Walkertown gate was probably a $20,000 gate. Walkertowns highest home gate was probably West Forsyth JV game. I attended the Walkertown- Mt. Airy game that at that time meant something to both schools and plenty of seats available on both sides. 40 minute drive to Walkertown.
Also the reason why WSP played Mt. Tabor, but refused to play them in Jv. Atkins played Glenn. Split gates.
If you ever notice West Forsyth will play usually Davie or N.Davidson for homecoming. How many other schools schedule their rivals for homecoming, no split there. Be like MA scheduling ES for homecoming. Heck even Atkins scheduled W. Wilkes like game 2 for homecoming and a hope to possibly win.
Bareman, I totally respect your post and truly do understand your concerns, you never go at attacking WSFCS as most other posters in your area. There is not a school in this state that is not concerned about football gates, it pays the bills for golf, swimming tennis and etc. now that I have pissed off those sports fans, but it is the truth.
