2016 Yadkin Valley 1A Conference Pre-season Predictions

Triple, I have given a "stab in the dark" prediction based on what I have been told is returning. I agree that no one should count out WM or their staff's ability to get them ready, but they are "younger" than the past four or five teams. As for the YVC having their hands full, that is always the case. Now about my mind slipping....let me slip this in your ear... &!!@#$%!!!*!!. I am not senile yet....knock on wood. Tap, tap, tap.... Hey...gotta go. Someone is knocking on my door.

What you slipped in my ear should have been what you slipped to your players

You implied my mind was slipping. My mis-typed cartoon profanity was intended as a joke. I don't get your reply, but it is all good. My opinion is just for kicks. As for my players' ears.... for the most part, I coached with dignity. Saying it loud or cursing a player was never my style. I can't say I never "slipped" toward those convicts tossing yellow flags, but even then...it was never intended as personal.

Chatham Central

The Bears hope to turn around this season and get things going. The numbers are slightly up from last season and they will rely on veteran leadership in several positions to try and get a few W's and escape the cellar. Progress will happen unfortunately I just don't see the Bears escaping the ninth Place spot.

Outlook: 0-8

South Davison

The wildcats showed signs of improvement last season especially towards the end of the season winning. They found themselves in a few ballgames later on the season they were a few mistakes away from possibly coming away with one or two more wins. They hope to build on the momentum of last year's improvements and their regular-season ending win.

Outlook: 1-7

#7 Albemarle

The last two years for the Bulldogs have been anything but positive or consistent. With speculation running rampant throughout Stanly county and the surrounding areas about Albemarle’s impending closure. Somehow the bulldogs under their new head-coach look to take several positive steps and rebuilding a once dominant program. A tough nonconference schedule leads right into conference play. The Bulldogs will show improvement however stability in the off-season ultimately will be the key in this once great program finding success.

Outlook: 2-6

# 6 Union Academy

Youth will have to be on the side of the Cardinals this upcoming season. I'm going to take a gamble and say their youth will pay off big for them and allow them to finish in the six spot. This may be a bit of a gamble to put them this high but this program seems to have a lot more stability in several areas then the teams I have placed them higher than. They have a few explosive athletes coming up from the JV
program that look to make an impact from day one. Three conference wins would be a huge step in the right direction for a very young football team.

Outlook: 3-5

5. South Stanley

Placing the bulls this high may be a gamble but I like my odds. At times last season the bulls had a very sound defense that played well against very run heavy teams in the top tier of the YVC. Combine the defense with an offense that later in the season began to gel with an influx of young talent. I could definitely see the bulls stealing a few wins in league play. Once again this hinges on their ability to find an offense that allows there athletes to get in space.

Outlook: 4-4

4. North Moore

The mustangs of North Moore head into this season looking to build upon the successes of last season. The Mustangs came up short in a few close games toward the end of YVC play that cost them playoff seeding. Their season ended in round 1 versus the 1AA state runner-up Mitchell mountaineers. Arguably one of the best rebuilding jobs completed in the state under coach Mike Vogt. Coach Vogt has taken a perennial doormat of a program and turned them around to the point of being a score away from beating conference runner-up East Montgomery last season. The Mustangs have lost a few key pieces however I see a possible YVC player of the year candidate returning as well as a solid front seven on defense. Consistency and off-season success have been the pillars of Norh Moore’s turn around. I see them winning a few conference games easily and pushing the two of the top three teams in the conference to the limit.

Outlook 5-3

3. North Stanley

The comets may have lost where the best backs in the state of North Carolina and Nation last year in Antonio Williams but they are far from a rebuilding phase. The comets have size and speed in all the right places as well as former young players growing into their own. I see very good football team that will be right on the heels of the Montgomery county powers. A tough nonconference schedule should prepare this football team for the wars that will be the first two weeks of October. (East and West Montgomery). Coach Crisco and company will be battled tested football team come playoff time.

Outlook: 6-2

2. East Montgomery

Stop.... Hammer time!

The Eagles could not have made a better hire in Ben Hammer a few off seasons ago. The Eagles are definitely doing things the right way and quickly building a successful program. The Eagles possess a deadly set of explosive skill players led by YVC POY candidate Courtney McKinney. A strong armed QB and seasoned players along the OL/DL are big positives for the eagles. They are well coached and have had a tremendous off-season after losing in the second round of the playoffs to East Surry. The momentum is building in Biscoe and the battle for Montgomery County will likely be played out again in the final regular-season game. A deep playoff run is a definite possibility in the future of the Eagles.

Outlook: 7-1

#1 West Montgomery

"To be the man you have to beat the man!"

Coming off a shocking 2nd round loss to Walkertown the Warriors face lower expectations coming off the so called "year" according to many in Mt Gilead. They have graduated several very talented seniors from the 2015 season. Their experience will be hard to replace however I do not see this as a negative for the Warriors. They have had an excellent off season lead by one of the best off season programs in the state with year around running and lifting and that amazing indoor turf facility.

The Warrior offense is flat out loaded with returning All YVC QB Jackson Dozier and Conference Player of the year Joe Leake leading the way for several key additions from an undefeated JV team in 2015. They will possess a smaller more mobile offensive line with key veteran leadership and a sprinkle of youth. The Warriors will be one of the few teams in 1A/1AA that can throw the ball around legitimately if they so choose. Play calling will be key but let's not question a coach with a 56-14 record over 5 seasons and 3 straight YVC crowns.

The warrior defense will be transitioning to a new scheme that will have some growing pains but ultimately find a groove in conference play. Loosing YVC DPOY Linebacker Seth Williams hurts, but the warriors are stable at LB. I fully expect Warrior nation to claim their fourth YVC crown in a row as well as a deep post season run.

Outlook: 8-0
Nice post, welcome aboard.

Is that Boog Powell as your icon? I met Boog many many years ago. He's a big guy....deceptively big. Pretty good ball player in his day.

I graduated in 92 and remember those guys as well went to school with alot of them at new London. They were very good tough defense anchored by Jamie karic who went on to Carolina to see decent playing time, cooter Goode and Quentin Edward's providing a lot of the offense that year, knowing how good those guys were the talent level on Norths team this year is more widespread, they played vanilla defense the other night not really showing much but who can blame them, they were on the field with conference rivals and stiffest competion in a warm up, I think come October folks will see what I've been saying

Good luck to all HS football teams!!!! I love this time of year can't wait for the first kickoff of the season. Also it looks like Williams is doing very very good job at Ohio State. Really pulling for that young man especially as a die hard Buckeyes fan. Looks like he worked himself up to the back up role which is huge as a freshman and according to the coaches he will certainly see some on the field action this season. Great job.

The YVC will be very interesting this year to say the least. I expect a dog fight until the end! And don't count the young Warriors out. They've been in the weight room hard this off season.............
We're not counting them out, with this conference they still should be fine, it's the playoffs. Tvill should give west a good test during the regular season.

20 seniors? That's great! I knew we graduated a bunch last year. Had no idea we had that many again this year. Agree with the depth. Injuries hurt us bad last year and the lack of depth hurt

One thing is automatic, Eddins and his staff know how to get the best out of young players. I haven't seen them yet but I've heard WM was the class of the Jamboree again. I think NS just started "mandatory" workouts last week. WM has never stopped working out. Neither has EM! Should be a dogfight at the end of the year!
