#2 SW Edgecombe 13-1 vs #1 Kinston 14-0

Can't these coaches develop a kicker? Tie the score and keep playing.

We have a great kicker. But we were getting 6-7 ypc. Coach had confidence to win and go home. And the rb was in.Looked to be laying on the line. But you know hhow that goes sometimes...

I would like to congratulate SWE for a hard fought game and a great season.
When the bracket came out I felt Kinston would have to get past SWE to reach the championship. It took overtime and SWE cuumming up inches short on a two point conversion for Kinston to make it back to the championship. Prayerfully, they will come back champions this time.

Yeah, I'll give it to you. Just like that ref did. On the line, but not in? Ok. Must have carried the ball with his feet.

What a game. Although Kinston came out on top SWE certainly gave an excellent battle. Good luck to Kinston as they represent the East.

I saw a great game, but if you want to blame the refs for what they did or didn't do. You can add this: the entire game they slow with the whistle allowing a rugby scrum and SWE to gain more yards. But on both ocasoion when KINSTON took the ball the whistle was quick or they called foward progress.
Don't blame the refs for comming up short in a good game.
Have a blessed day.

SWE'98 what is the opinion for Cougar Country about the decision to go for 2?

I've seen some of my SWE friends on Facebook and some former players for SWE bashing the decision of not letting Mobley kick it. I personally thought it was the right choice to go for the win.

You seem pretty knowledgable, and i'm very curious as to what your opinion was on the decision?

Here is a rule I have learned over the years. When at home you play for the tie, on the road for the win. Seeing how SWE was able to run the ball successfully, going for two, to me, was the logical thing to do. I wouldn't have ran the same play twice in a row.

I think they should have played for the tie.... Just my opinion. swe running game pretty good. I thought the longer it went on the more chance Kinston was going to stumble....

First off, from the time kinston tied it up at 15, this game had me on the edge of my seat until the end. Absolutely the best game I've seen all year, even with the loss. Before we scored in OT, I couldn't decide if I felt we should have went for 1 or 2. Obviously now I feel like going for 1 would have been the better choice, but I think we could have worn down Kinston with 2 or 3 possessions and got the 2 later if need be. Still can't believe how close it came down to and another foot would have got the win...

Also, I couldn't have been the only one who noticed, but the crowd and SWE sideline just were not in this one. I have no clue why. If you just watched the crowd, you could have mistaken us for playing North Edgecombe or Nash Central and is being up by 45 pts or more. There were a few faithful, myself included, who were into the game the whole time, on their feet, and cheering, or whatever to show support. I even shouted a few times at the crowd on big 3rd downs or 4th downs that we were going for - "come on southwest fans! Where u at?" - and I got looked at like a 3 headed dog...

I've told a few southwest players this year that if you want it, you have gotta go get it and whoever wants it the most will win it. Kinston wanted it more this time (to the tune of about a foot) and won a really good, really tough ball game. Congrats to Kinston and good luck against Shelby - bring the rings home to the east!
