$1M IMPROVEMENTS SLATED FOR REIDSVILLE COMMUNITY STADIUM

To me, Community Stadium looks neat and clean, a nice level area, cleared off well and there must not be creeks or a river nearby. Even on a cold night it doesn't feel too cold.

I think my response would come across as mean
I think one of the county high schools has already received a $500,000 allocation to rebuild its track. The current budget has $500,000 for the Reidsville High track around the Community Stadium field. Other high schools will receive similar consideration based on need.

I think the field and bathrooms def need an upgrade.
Depending on the final project, which could total about $1.5 million if the county commissioners approve a $250,000 request at its upcoming Monday meeting, and if the City of Reidsville shows some financial interest, we can only hope for improvements in the bathroom facilities. Of course, those who remember having to go OUTSIDE the facilities at the old Kiker Stadium realize what we have is an upgrade of sorts.

There is a small creek behind the visitor stands but does not affect the temps very much at all, if any. Not like stadiums like Elkin where the winds blowing across the creek can freeze not only beings but a beer on the top of their car in the parking lot left there before the game.

Bathroom upgrade please, port a johns in that muddy area is awful. Saw a Shelby bus roll gently into that area and sunk to its axles.

I’m excited for this season!
Big question is whether rising ninth graders Harrison and Neal will be able to resist the heavy recruiting from private schools that are making a huge push to get them on their teams.

Both will be major college recruits for both football and basketball.

Talent like they possess comes along maybe once in a generation.

I think Neal is looking like a go to play this year thus far, of course like you said thing can change. Harriosn I haven't heard yet. I think Harrison would be a day one starter at defensive end likely.

@tarheel fan1 you watch the fights last night? That Keyshawn Davis kid, on the undercard, looked like he’s the future of Boxing. I was very impressed with him. Shakur Stevenson looked great in the main event, great card last night.

Someone said the other day that they would be surprised if either kid was at RHS for all 4 years.

yeah he looked good. I really want to see Stevenson move up in weight. Stevenson reminds me the most out of mayweather that I’ve seen

I think the Neal kid wants to be here. He may get lured. I’m friends with his dad on Facebook and he stated that Neal wanted to be at rhs. Not sure about Harrison though

I meant more as possible reclassing and going to college early. With both kids doing 8th grade twice they will be at an age where that is a possibility, as long as the talent is as advertised.

Is football the only sport Reidsville won conference this year. Baseball should be better for the rams. How are the facilities?

We'll, the Rockingham County Commissioners stepped up to the plate: $500,000 for the track and $250,000 for the turf field. Question now is what will the Reidsville City Council do? We named the stadium Reidsville Community Stadium for a reason.

Will other sports, groups, and departments that have used and abused the field and track over the years chip in any money?

Who owns the stadium, Mule?

I have learned over the years that governmental units don’t always follow state law. But, if the school system owns the property, the city government can’t legally spend money on the stadium.

Does that apply to a private citizen? I know several years back Nicholas Sparks spent 750,000.00 on New Berns track.

No. Just to governmental units. Counties are mandated by state law to fund facilities. Lottery funds can be used for that as well. But municipalities can’t spend money on property they don’t own. That includes private property, but also property owned by other governmental units.
That’s the dilemma in Thomasville. The school system can’t help fund improvements at the city owned Cushwa Stadium, though they are the primary user. The city couldn’t help pay for the track renovation at the high school a few years ago for the same reason.

You could not be more wrong. The County gov't has voted to contribute $250,000 for stadium improvements and the City can make contributions as well.

Having served on both School Board and City Council I am well familiar with these matters.

I can't believe Canelo lost. He went up too much in weight.

As am I for similar reasons. Might be a good question for your city attorney.

I didn’t get to watch it, but my brother said the same thing about him fighting at 175. He also felt the scores that the judges had were ridiculous. The fight wasn’t nearly as close as they had it scored, in his opinion.

Baseball stadium is very nice. Baseball should be better, but more than that, track & field should be strong for RHS. Very few participants.

I actually didn't get to watch either. But, I won't miss the tank fight later this month.
