Now that the season is halfway through who are some of your favorites to represent the west in the finals?
1A- Cherokee is my favorite until someone slows them down. They have a very strong starting five who play well together. Bishop would be their biggest competition IMO. As always, Bishop is well coached and disciplined.
Mtn Heritage is doing well again and UA is still undefeated. Other teams to keep an eye on are Uwharrie, Albemarle and Polk.

2A- N Wilkes is my favorite and they’ve played a tough schedule. Their conference has 5 teams in the top 10 RPI rankings. Of course, E Burke will have something to say. TW Andrews is athletic and undefeated but haven’t played that much competition. Same for SW Randolph.

3A- Is wide open. I don’t think there is a clear favorite this year. 2A has a much stronger field. Holland and Cramer have been dominant. AC Reynolds is better than their record indicates. Pisgah is looking strong, N Lincoln, and Robinson to name a few.
Two teams that are also better than their record indicates are Oak Grove and Freedom.

4A- LKN is my favorite. Strong starting five and bench play. Mallard Creek has been tough with the addition of KiKi. McDowell has balanced scoring and is a disciplined team. N Meck has a dominant inside player in Lenise Joseph. Watauga is starting to catch their stride and have blown out a few decent teams lately. Butler is another team to keep your eye on.
The teams in the Triad area are pretty down this year and I don’t see too much advancement come playoff time from those teams.

I agree with your assessment across the board, except that I would put McDowell as the most likely threat to unseat Lake Norman. The Lady Titans are in position to get the top seed in the 4A west playoffs and could make a run to the regionals. Watauga is athletic and they shoot the ball well. Katie Sears is a baller and can take over a game, but I don't know if they have what it takes to repeat their performance from last year. If they're hot, they're a force, but I honestly think McDowell is a better team than the Lady Pioneers.
As for 3A, I'd like to think that the Lady Pats can make a run, but I think Pisgah is probably in the best position with N. Lincoln having an "up and comer" type of feel. Freedom has the makings of a good team, but they've got to put it all together on any given night and the best I can say is that sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Hopefully Coach Reddick can make it work come playoff time.
In 2A I fully expect to see E. Burke and N. Wilkes in the regional finals, and I think it's also likely that Cherokee and Bishop play what would essentially be the state championship game in the western regional finals.
