After what the head coach called an embarrassing game vs Washington, SWE bounced back by dominating the second half in route to defeating Farmville Central on the road 35-20.
FC came out on fire in the first quarter, while SWE looked as if it was still feeling the shock of last week's game. The Cougar offense could not get a thing going, while the Jaguar offense sliced through SWE for gains of 6 to 7 yards per carry. After a 50 yard td scamper by FC, SWE was down 0-14 early in the second before finding some life with a 59 yard TD pass to cut the deficit to 7-14. FC went up 20-7 before SWE scores with 12 seconds left in the half to go into the break down 14-20.
SWE comes out in the second half and dominates, stopping everything that was working so well for FC in the first half. After being ran through in the first half, SWE's run defense shuts the door and the offense woke up as well. The win for SWE proved ultra important because coupled with Washington's shocking loss to Beddingfield, the EPC championship is once again within reach. I'm just glad that the team responded the way that they did. After being down 7-20, we went on a 28-0 run to close the game. Honestly, after that first quarter, I thought we were in for a long one. Next week at North Johnston.

SWE 0 14 7 14 = 35
FC 7 13 0 0 = 20

Good win against the Jags.... The Washington loss was a shocker.. Gotta love the unpredictability of HS football

First game I've missed all season and right down the road at that. Heard it was a great game to watch and the comeback was like flipping a switch. Glad we are back to playing cougar ball - even if it took 5, maybe 6 quarters to do so… NJ should be a good one this week and it sounds like Beddingfield may pose a very real threat the week after.

I don't think the NJ game will be a good one. Well, good for us, but not a good game. I think we will win with ease and get the reserves plenty of work. They started strong, being 4-1, which is impressive considering they were 1-21 over the previous two seasons. But I had a feeling that they would struggle within the conference. They got the win I felt like they could get vs North Pitt, but even then, they only put up 7 on them, a team that gives up 40 points like candy on Halloween. With 5 wins, there is a decent chance that they sneak into the playoffs, but but I don't see them getting a 6th. They finish with us and Washington. And if they do get into the postseason, it'll be as a 15 or a 16. And knowing how the NCHSAA is, they will most likely face us in the first rd. I hate facing a conference opponent in the first round. But of course, this scenario depends on us winning out and finishing 10-1, which might not be so easy. I swear, that last game hosting Beddingfield boy....now THAT will be a good game!

Totally agree. Beddingfield is very underestimated and always has been. They remind me a lot of North Edgecombe - great team, but always last in the county. They lost a close one to undefeated Greene Central and played 2 close game with both county rivals.Only other loss was to Southern Nash who we all know is a powerhouse and is favored to win our old 3A conference if they can get by RMT this week (by the way - if we had a bye week this week, that's the game Id be at - should be a good one). We usually have a tough time defending Beddingfield's passing game and that could bite us next week. I feel like we have improved our defensive backfield in the past few years though and it will be interesting to see how we stack up. Very good point about NJ too - last time we played a conference foe in the playoffs two weeks after playing them in the regular season, it was Beddingfield and they upset a good 2010 team who left Wilson wondering how in the world did they shut them out a few weeks prior.

I remember that 2010 season....I didn't even go to that playoff game because it was cold and we had just shut them out. I wasn't worried and didn't want to be cold AND bored. I fell to the floor when I got the word that we lost. As far as this year's version of Beddingfield...their four losses have come against teams that most other teams will have a tough time beating, but the thing is, Bfield could have won them all. Their defense is stout and we all know that they are good at passing the rock. But the best thing they have going for them right now is confidence after slaying Goliath. I'm actually pulling for them this week because if they lose, the best we can do is second, unless Washington somehow loses to either North Pitt or North Johnston. Highly unlikely. If Beddingield wins this week, then we can have a three way tie for first if we beat them next week. So as of this week, our title hopes hinge on them beating Farmville. But FC has a running back that can move! This cat had 206 yards in the first half vs us. He finished with two sixty something, but still.
