what about the so called regional titles??...are they considered state champions...of course we've always claimed them even if NCHSAA has been off and on about whether they are titles or not...

Yes. All count as State Champions.
Our understanding was that with different playoff formats now with byes and all, they decided to stop with the distinctions. Past present future.
Makes sense.

Where can the record of state championships of all sports under the black schools association be found?

We aint ever thought of em' being anything else but State Championships here in Belmont. I think I've seen Lexington treat them the same way; as it SHOULD BE!!!

WE DID IT !!
The NCHSAA, at its semi-annual board meeting this week, voted unanimously to extend the title of "State Champion" to all public high school football champions of the era preceeding the 1977 merger of the WNCHSAA and the NCHSAA. The addendum also included the historicall black public high school football champions of that period, also.
The addendum only included football as other boys sports and girls sports will be addressed at the May meeting.
Prior to this week's decision, only championships won under the NCHSAA governance were included in current resumes of the state's programs.
Great news. Thank you NCHSAA.
If this is accurate, you deserve a tremendous amount of credit! Thank you for your perserverance. Character is doing the right thing, even when exposed to great criticism. All of the former WNCHSAA schools owe you a debt of gratitude.
There may be some hope for the NCHSAA yet.

Thanks 72 and whoever else was involved. Hope to see an update in the record book soon.

I can't believe you guys fell for this.

Unfortunately for those who wanted this to happen, the NCHSAA never even considered this "Open Letter".

Why NC Preps would allow this to be posted and continue to appear without confirming it with the NCHSAA is difficult to understand.

Anyone who doubts that Champ 98/72/XX has posted major FAKE NEWS needs to simply call the NCHSAA in Chapel Hill.

The telephone number is 919-240-7401.

The posting is fake news. No such resolution was submitted or considered by the NCHSAA Board of Directors.

Dating back to last year, conversations were had with some people about why the WNCHSAA Championships and the NCHSAC Championships were not included in the Football Championship program. That was based on my oversight as we tried to trim down the page count to keep costs under control. They were added back in the Championship Yearbook last year and were included in this year's program and media notes.

The NCHSAA classifies these championships as "Other Championships." Just as the NCAA would not recognize NAIA National Championships in the official NCAA Championship count for their member schools, the NCHSAA does not count championships won by current members in other associations as State Championships. Unlike the NCAA, we list those championships in our media and program information.

As for championships between 1961-1971 in most classifications, we designate those championships won when play did not culminate in a full State Championship as a Regional Title. However, we do list those on the NCHSAA State Championships results page as those teams won the final game of the season, listing the regional winners in each region from those years.

Normally, I would not post on message boards, but it is important to make sure patently false information doesn't spread, as this already has to a degree.

Regards,
James Alverson
Assistant Commissioner, NCHSAA

So you are saying that they culminate to a full state championship now? 2A doesn't play 2AA.
It could be argued that it's not a full state championship now anymore than it wasn't a full state championship from 1961 to 1971.
Maybe you should list titles since 2002 in a special sub-divided titles category???

Reidsville has 19 state titles, not 16. Anything less is a slap in the face to the players from the 1963, 1969 and 1970 teams. You can add an asterisk if you'd like, but don't shortchange those teams in the total count.

How do we know any of this is real? Confirmation of ole Jimmy boy Alverson's IP address might be needed...Plus why would he address this extremely stupid topic...Yet never address how mentally handicapped these playoffs are? Just curious...

He is for real. He helped me with credentials for the Championship game. Not really sure why 72 would post it just because.

It is correct. There was no such resolution. This information was substantiated today in a face to face conversation with Commissioner Tucker, Asst Comm Alverson, and Asst Comm Dreibelbis.

In the past a group of NCHSAA officials reviewed various historical items and determined how to proceed. This resulted from the claim of a six man "state championship" claim. Professional sports (NFL and NBA) and NCAA protocol were reviewed in the process. Personnel associated with WNCHSAA were included in the discussion.
