Another big game for EW and what looks to be their final test (no disrespect to West Wilkes) this season. I've seen WC once this year and have not seen East. East seems to be on a mission. I think WC will have success early on with their offense before adjustments are made and East buckles down. Bynum is a tough back to stop and contain. I'll say East 31 - WC 27. Thoughts or analysis?

EW will continue to do what they've done all year. Their offense is settling in nice with the new QB. Their defense will continue to be a force to be reckoned with. EW will get it done. The "Red Storm" is coming, and they're out for another win. I'm expecting the biggest crowd EW has seen in a very long time. We'll be there early to have a seat. Last Friday, the visitor side, and a section of the home stands, at Starmount, were EW fans.

Man this will defintely be East biggest test. Im sure Wilkes Central's defense will not be the caliber of Starmount or Ashe. But their offense is so multi-faceted and chock full of speedy weapons. East will have to capitalize on any and all turnovers. Wilkes Central can score from all over the field. They are super balanced now too. Against Elkin i saw where the QB passed for over 200 and the team also rushed for over 200. Yikes that is enough to make an EW fan worry just a lil bit.

I enjoyed that video. Still hating I could not be at the game last Friday night in Boonville.

I expect a good game with WC on Friday night and I am not sure who will win. If East can set the edge on defense and keep the Eagles speed from breaking contain then East should win. The turnover battle is also going to be extremely important.

The two JV squads also fight it out for the championship on Thursday night. In that game I will take East by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

East all but clinches the title here or leaves the door open for a 3-way tie. Having seen each team play once, East looks like the better all-around team to me, but they will have a lot of pressure on them. We'll see how well those kids handle it. I'll say East wins 34-27

Having not seen East play I cannot comment on how I think the game will go. I know they will probably try and keep WC's offense off the field and load the box to stop Bynum. WC is very good at forcing turnovers and not giving any up with the exception of the Ashe game. Whoever said turnovers will be key is absolutely right. That will be the x-factor. I am going to try and make this game Friday, Lord willing.

Saw some footage of the Bynum kid and he looks to me like he doesn't secure the ball in traffic. I didn't see the Ashe game but 5 fumbles lost makes me wonder if a swarming D didn't create a few of those. EW does try to limit possessions, mix in a TO and it's hard to get back in the game.

Weather may be a factor. The Ashe game was in wet conditions. Against Starmount, he ran for 200+ and even hurdled a kid (got flagged, but impressive).

His highlight reel has a couple of hurdles(other than Starmount). He looks impressive, especially out of his cuts where he doesn't loose much speed and accelerates well. I cringe though when I see that ball away from the chest.

Winner of this game sets themselves up nicely for the playoffs as long as they take care of business the following week. 1AA and 2A/2AA west are all three going to be tough this year so it is good that both teams will see a good opponent so close to the playoffs.. Seed this year is going to be more important then it has the past few years, especially in 1AA with so many high quality teams. Good luck to both teams!

Should be a great ball game either way. I think the Key to the game will be ball control. East Wilkes loves to put together those long scoring drives. Against Starmount last Friday, they would eat up half of a quarter on a possession. Of course in any big game, Turnovers will play a big part as well. My main attention is seeing the Time of Possession for both teams at the end of the game. Ill say whoever controls the clock, wins this game. Good Luck to both teams.

Go Cards!

Well game day is finally here. I assume Central runs the same offense as their JV and that would be the spread. If this is the case, yuck.

Could be like the Ashe game only with better athletes and a stout running back. Going to have to pressure the QB without getting beat by the short pass in the flat all night.

Important for the East offense to control the ball and not turn the ball over. Play smart and physical.

My heart say's to take East tonight, but my head is telling me Central. So here goes, Central 28 - East 21. I sure hope I am as wrong as can be. Go Cards.

My both teams have safety during tonight's game.

Aw no RealFreedom..you traitor...lol just kidding...Gotta have faith in these Cardiac Cards.. two come from behind victories against 2 great teams. Maybe its destiny. I will say this..and i guess im straddling the fence a lil bit. It will either be EW in a nailbiter or WC by 10 or so. Sounds weird but my premonition led me to this..lol

Not really a stretch. It is if youre comparing them to Mallard Creek or Shelby in which i am not. But to good teams relative to this area if small ball. How's that Bull..lol

Well its also maybe a changing of the guards as well. East is a solid team. Wilkes Central is a solid team. Ashe and Starmount are solid teams. But Bull lets be real. Starmount has set the standard for years. Its 7 or 8 miles from East Wilkes. Boonville nor Ronda aree not big Metropolis cities. At some point and time these kids especially younger kids are not really gonna care about Starmount's legendary historic teams. Im old so i do. Bit these younger teams are gonna line up..not be afraid of the uniform and wont be beat like some of these teams in the past that trembled when they saw Ram horns. So yeah maybe Starmount is down or maybe just maybe..give credit to other programs for stepping up and maybe closing the gap. Thats what i see.

Maybe. Whatever that means. Sounds nice. I'll take it. Starmount didnt look down to me at all last Friday night. But i do believe long gone are the days of the Carlos King..Reggie Billups..Starmount stomp everybody teams. I know it and truly Bull you know it too. Starmount does and will always get my respect. But like i said, Im old so I know the tradition of Starmount. But man you have to believe that even Starmounts jv teams used to drag everybody. Regardless of who was pulled up for varsity. Now maybe im looking at it wrong. But i will say that teams in this area may be made of more similar athletes and parity than ever. Even down to the younger little league squads. I really dont see Starmount beating Wilkes Central or East Wilkes the next year or two either to be honest with ya. I mean the jv teams totally destroyed the Rams this year. Both Ew and Wc have 7 or 8 jv players starting somewhers on their varsity teams as well. So no one can use the excuse that all the good players were pulled up for 1 team..when every program does the same thing.

I agree with everything you said but it will take more than EW or WC beating Starmount "the next year or two" for their programs to be comparable to Starmount. That will take time, it may happen, and it may not, only time will tell.

All I was saying is this Starmount team is going to be underdogs to make it passed 2nd round of playoffs may not get out of the first round, normally that's not the case. That's why I say they are down.EW and WC are better teams this year. Good luck to the Cards I hope they have a deep playoff run.

Pyrles, i cant make it more clear that Starmount has and does set the standard. But these younger guys that are coming thru the ranks have greater chances than teams in the past to compete year in and year out going forward. Starmount is still the Gold Standard. Thats super acceptible. Not many teams would wanna face Starmount in the 2nd round in 1a even this year. I have nothing but respect for the Ram program. But others are on the rise. The others have to be consistent. Which the Rams truly have been. It still strikes some fear in teams..Those blue and orange uniforms...But now there is hope for other teams to compete...where there used to be no hope at all.

I agree, my point is only time will tell. It may happen and it may not, nobody, including you and I know at this point.

On a side note, I think Starmount played last week without 3 or 4 of their starters. Deana, please correct me if I'm wrong.

East was also without 2 players in Poplin and Ward. But you gotta know that things are destined to change at some point. We can all talk about who was out moved up/down etc. But fact is that Starmount is still Starmount..they are still good. It is and will be a monumental feat for any 1a team around here to beat them. But sometimes not all times it takes the invinceabiltiy down a notch when a team or program gets over a huge hump. Heck Pyrles..Elkin is a hump..but teams have to think that they can compete and that has been missing at EW for years..Hopefully they will continue to work hard and expect to compete and not be surprised by good results.

Yep, I agree.

this is a big one for EW....not only for a title but will give some indication how they will stack up against some of the bigger 1AA schools come playoffs.....I know WC is 2A but there will be teams like them night after night in playoffs....good size and speed....good luck to Cards

Boys, everything runs in cycles. Starmount, Mt. Airy and East Surry have just been better for longer than anyone else in the area. Even at these schools they have down years and times where the talent pool gets low.
What is crazy is that a down year for them most of the times are still 6-8 win seasons. Happy for EW and the success they are having there this year. It is good for our area but to truly gain respect you have to prove you have staying power with success year after year. That is when you start to earn the respect that Blue Print was talking about. When you come into play a team and there down 7-14 points before you get off the bus then there is a fear and respect for that program. Not picking sides or downing anyone! Just throwing my two cents in. EW fans should be proud and defend their team but you don't see any of the posters from the long proven programs beating their chest. Tradition year after year does that for us. East Wilkes sounds like they are trying to build that and I hope they do so it will improve football for our area. There is a right and wrong way to support your team and it seems as though every school has that one poster that just don't get it. Best of luck to all teams as your season winds down and the playoffs start!

I tend to agree with you Real, WC spread is scary to me after watching the Ashe game and them run it as well. It seemed that game was really the only game where our defense truly struggled. But after half they made some adjustments and done alot better. Im guessing time will tell tonight. I saw someones post about Bynum not securing the ball while in open field and I saw some footage of that myself, maybe we can get a fumble or two from that. Im not one to tend to compare games to games but WC defense will probably have to play lights out tonight or we should be putting up a high score, I mean they allowed 28 points to a Alleghany team. I still feel like if this is a no turnover game then it will come down to whoever can win the time of possession battle. Both offenses can obviously score points. Should be a great atmosphere in Ronda tonight. Good luck to both teams and Hope EW can reel in another W. Im gonna ride with our team in a very close ball game. Cardinals 31 Eagles 27

Some quality post's on here this week. No doubt you will not see any EW Cardinals on here thumping our chest. We have been too bad for too long. (At least EW posters that are on here up to this point)

Starmount has been the gold standard as mentioned above and that is a great monkey to get off our back. We have beat teams like WC, Elkin, Mt. Airy and East Surry in the past. Not that those are not great wins, but the Rams victory was special for the program.

The problem with tonight's game is can the kids bring the same type of emotion for 3 straight weeks. That can be hard to do. I guess we will know in 5 hours.

Tough first half in Ronda, Bynum has 3 scores from 2 swing passes and one draw. If EW can get contain they can make a game of it. 21-7 half
