Why Doesn't Lincoln Charter Have a Football Program?

Hoping EaglePride23 may have some insight but does anyone know why Lincoln Charter does not have a 1A Varsity Football program? They are one of the largest 1A programs in the state (ADM of 593) and they should grow to 2A in a few more years (projected ADM of 650-700). They certainly have the athletes and facilities to support a program. In fact, they have two separate campuses, one in Denver and the other about 20 miles away in Lincolnton (they combine kids from both schools to form their teams). Is the administration against having a football program or are there plans to start one? Would the students prefer to have a football team?

Are there any other schools that combine completely separate campuses to form teams? Why is that even allowed?

Yes. Newton-Conover has had two campuses for 8 years. Newton-Conover High and The Discovery High School. I have only known one football player, zero basketball players, zero wrestlers from The Discovery campus. It was a forced mandate to count their attendance by the state even if no kids played but could. Therefore 200 kids take 780 to 980 and add zero athletic value.

They are totally operated independently as schools, with different principals, rules, and budgets. Any kid in the county can attend The Discovery School if grades, the application, and panel interview goes well.

Interesting about Newton-Conover...I never knew that. Lincoln Charter has two distinct campuses (Denver campus and Lincolnton campus) with different administration but still fall under the same overall leadership and under the same name for athletics. The Lincolnton campus is a bit smaller as I believe they are just adding a full senior class.

They are quickly going to become a 2A program, based on the combined ADM but I wonder if they would ever consider acting as two distinct 1A schools, once they reach their full enrollment (with separate teams by campus). Was really hoping EaglePride23 might be willing to provide his/her insight.
