Murphy's only real chance in this series is to force Gore to go the distance in the game he starts to limit his availability thereafter. Obviously the only way that happens is for Murphy to have an equal pitching performance in the game Gore starts, it's unlikely but possible. Murphy's #16 has thrown a no hitter this year, obviously not against an opponent the level of Whiteville, but still against a pretty decent team.
The reality is Whiteville was plenty good enough to win the 2A title this year and probably would've made a good run in the 3A bracket. Murphy has a monumental task in front of them and it will take their pitchers being totally on to have any kind of shot in this series. They absolutely can not have a game like they did game 2 against North Stanly or it's series over.
