What can you tell me about Ashbrook?

Ashbrook versus A.C. Reynolds in round 1. What can you tell me about Ashbrook? As for Reynolds, we run the spread like everyone else, have a great qb in Rico Dowdle and mostly run but pass enough to be effective and keep you honest. Our defense is lights out against the run, but you can pass on us. Our only loss is to Shelby 56-39, a game we had a 24-14 lead in during the third quarter. Reynolds has a good kicking game also.

Ashbrook has a lot of talent but coaches who do not have a clue what to do with it. They are a Jekell & Hyde team so you never know what you are going to get. 90 percent of the time they underachieve so Reynolds should have a fairly easy time getting to round 2.

I don't know what anyone in the Big South could tell you about Ashbrook that would truly help. We call them Jekyll and Hyde because you never know which team you will get from game to game or even within the same game. They lost to North Gaston and Lake Norman Charter, two of the worst teams in the conference. They were down 0-21 to Forestview midway through the third and then exploded in the 4th, winning 32-21. Early in the season, they were probably passing more. However, right before the FV game, they dismissed two of their WRs and since then have had more of a running game. If ACR can shut down the run, they should have no problems. I am thinking the film from the LNC and FV games would be the most helpful. LNC didn't have much of an offense, but their D was decent against the Green Wave.

Ashbrook has size, athletes and speed. You never know which team will show up. You may catch them on a night when they put it all together and they'll beat you by 30. In fact, they have enough talent to beat a lot of teams. On the other hand, you may beat them by 30.

Most likely you'll see one team in one half and a completely different team in the other half.

Three big O Lineman and one very large and active D Lineman that can give teams fits. Big middle linebacker who comes in for short yardage and goal situations as a back on offense and is a load to bring down.

Like no dog in the fight said. Ashbrook has size and speed. Last year we had a damn good football team and we went down to ashbrook and they gave us all we wanted. I know this is a new year but when they say they are Jekyll and Hyde they aren't kidding. They are incredibly talented and if they want to play hard and their coaches know what they have on their roster, they could give Reynolds trouble. They are the type of team you don't want to let hang around.

Yep that sizes them up...also will add they are front runners, if they get you down they are hard to handle.

Oh yeah, their Kicker/Punter looks like he should play O Line or D Tackle for the Panthers. But, in the one game I saw him, he only kicked and punted. Has real size and it's in the butt and thighs. Kid is a monster but they didn't use him other than to kick. He is a line drive kicker and punter, and much like the team is hit and miss. He either doesn't do much with his kicks/punts or just drills a line drive with his 300lbs that goes forever.

If I recall correctly, their D stacked 8 in the box against South Point, especially in the 2nd half. They do have the manpower to make it difficult for a running game, especially if you get predictable in the play calling.

It is pretty obvious that Ashbrook can't handle the double wing offense. Losing to South Point is one thing, but losing to North Gaston and Lake Norman Charter is another. Why???.... obviously to those of us familiar with the program, is that they are extremely undisciplined. And teams that don't maintain their assignments and lanes get beat by the double wing because they over pursue. Even if they are bigger, faster, and much more talented than the team running the wing, they can get shredded.

Put in the double wing and you win. Keep the spread and take your chances.

Reynolds is lights out against the run because the mountains suck this year! Asheville and Erwin will lose first round and everybody's greatest team of all time won't be far behind them!

Well in his defense Asheville was bad and Erwin isn't all that either. You play who you play but with the 3aa west the way it is, I would be shocked to see any of us in the 4th round. Us and Erwin may not win a game!

Volfan, do I detect sour grapes?
No bud just telling it like it is! You really think the mountains are good this year? Asheville and Erwin will lose in the first round and Reynolds has a great team this year but they have no chance of making it to the finals!

Well bud I guess I can agree on Asheville and Erwin not being very good this year but I will have to give ACR a chance at making it to the finals. I have seen it happen before when not a soul would give ACR a chance to make it and they did. I respect your opinion though.

They have enough talent to play with anyone in the state. Great players do not necessarily make a great team. Losing two WR's, one of which was their former starting QB was a big loss.

Lol speak for yourself. We still run the same plays we did in 2001.
Cougar,
yes, you seem to be the exception to the spread. I have to believe when Coach Wilkens leaves you will go to it. I didn't like it at first, but have to admit the games are exciting. Funny though, Reynolds used to average 3-4 shutouts a year in the 90's and thru 2006, now we haven't had a shutout since 2009 State Championship Year. I think the spread has a lot to do with that.

I don't know what in the h#ll these people are talking about. You know exactly what you are getting with Trashbrook. They are terrible. When is the last time they were legit good...2002 or maybe 2004? They will waste 30 offensive plays per game (on about 23-24 pass attempts, and 6-7 attempted pass attempts that turn into scrambles and count as runs when they get 2 yards from each attempt). So, they attempt to win Varsity football games giving themselves half the offensive plays the the other teams use to score points. They are the worst coached team in NC probably...definitely on offense. They have about the same athletes as everyone else; maybe one or two more than most big south teams. You have more athlete/football players. They look a certain way in their uniforms, but that doesn't mean squat if you watch what they can actually do (skill/technique wise).

Ashbrook is very mistake prone, but they're the type of team that could send ACR home if the stars are aligned wrong. Something like the Arkansas razorbacks...lose alot of games but it's not a gaurantee gimme game. Take a note from Ole Miss.

I do apologize I was very disrespectful to Reynolds and their fans I guess you were right about the sour grapes that Erwin loss was still stinging! Good luck to Reynolds I do think your only obstacle is Crest and if you beat them your playing for a state title! Once again sorry for my sour comments and good luck I hope to get to one of your playoff games!

Erwin and Asheville are capable of beating most teams in 3AA with the exception of Crest and Reynolds. Asheville is 9-2 and blown out everyone pretty much. Erwin is 7-4 with all of their losses coming to very good teams. They are just too unpredictable because one week they look good and the next they don't. If I was one of these so called good teams in the 3AA west I would not want to see either Erwin or Asheville early in the playoffs.

BD good luck to your Warriors Friday night I will probably go check that game out! But I can promise you Asheville has no chance of beating Weddington Friday night!

No problem. I understand completely. I hope all the MAC teams have a great showing in the playoffs. (unless of course they play ACR again) It's all good.

If ACR loses to Ashbrook, they will deserve ridicule for a decade.

Much like the South Point Once n Done team back in 2011?

NEVER EVER should the top ranked team in the state lose in the 1st round. Unless, they are EXTREMELY overrated.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Asheville is coming off a home loss to a local rival and will have the motivation of last years close loss to Weddington. I know Weddington will be the favorite Friday night, but I think the Cougars are very capable of pulling the upset if you even want to call it that. I will take Asheville 21-14...I really hope the big 3 from the MAC are all playing next week.

Last year we were at home and had a damn good team and lost to weddington. This year we are on the road and have been incredibly overrated all year and will probably play in front of 70 fans

Asheville has lost to Weddington two years in a row because they couldn't run the ball against them! There is nothing about this Asheville team that makes me think it will be any better! They don't have the heart to step up and beat a good team! It's an Asheville team with lots of talent but they never lived up to their potential! They have not beat a good team all year!
