This is the most dominant 3A team I’ve ever seen. Here’s why:
16-0
26 wins in a row
Gave up <20 every game
704 points scored
104 points against
+20 point differential 14 straight games
Incredibly, trailed for 11 seconds the whole year.
Domination

Best 3a team I thought I ever saw was Catholic 2017, but I can't say they are better than this years Weddington team. NEXT years Weddington team has the potential to put all comparisons to rest.

No argument. Tough conference. Dominant performances! Never in doubt against a really good team in the title game!

1996 Hickory was pretty impressive. Weaker conference. Prior to subdivided playoffs. Average 48-6.

They should be an offensive juggernaut. That 17 CC team was the best I saw until now. Man, they were tough.

2017 Catholic.
2012 Northern Guilford.
2011 Havelock.
1996 Hickory.

The specialist and “completeness” of this Weddington team is hard to challenge.

They have not needed it but a vertical passing game would top it off.

Losing the LB is going to hurt. He is smart, savvy, aggressive, big, fast to the ball. Difference maker.

Would like to see Capone challenge them with one big time non conference matchup.

They played Crest in 17 and 18 and, it’s my understanding, that they were looking forward to playing them again this year. But it’s my understanding Crest didn’t want to play this year.

Weddington will be hard to stop running the ball again next year for sure. Soph RB Parsons would start anywhere else. Will be interesting to see what happens at QB. Was clear to us who watched this year that position was a clear weak link. If they get better play from that position next year then good luck trying to stop them.

Defense next year will take a significant step back as they’re graduating many seniors. 42 is a huge loss. Following family tradition to play at Air Force but he could play anywhere. Tough, smart and mean. 25 was a huge addition this year. No one could run outside, he was too quick from his Safety position. He’s going DI. 33 is a great player who’s going to Elon to continue playing and they rotated 4 seniors at DT who were all tough. Big, big losses to overcome. Underclassmen are good but there will be a drop off defensively next year which makes sense as this 2019 D was historically good.

Everyone talks about Shipley. We (CC) actually did well with him, but so many other players killed us. After many years of coming up short against us they came with a hammer and energy that we could not match. I don't like making comparisons between years, but it is easy to see that this bunch was very special. BTW, who was the last team to beat Weddington. LOL. You know they are going to be extra good next year as well.

The remember their last lost. As a matter of fact, CC handed us our last 2 losses. The SCC will come to between Weddington and CC again.

The majority of the seniors have played together since 6th grade. We, as parents, felt like this was a special group of boys. We were right.

Is a player from another Union school coming to Weddington next year? Return man / receiver?

Not that I know of, other than what someone posted here a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t heard anyone other than him say it.

You know the program has reached the next level when this starts happening. Different dynamic starts when outside kids start coming in . Especially big time skill players.

Spot on! Mallard Creek went through the BS. This is America and citizens flow towards success.

It is why couch potatoes and idlers accuse certain programs of thumbing the scale.

Do the work!

Hickory 96 team is the best. I was 5 years old when I watched them DESTROY All-American Tenn commit Bobby Graham and Statesville that year. Very impressive team

Crest won the 4A title that year and many folks felt like that Hickory was best team in state regardless of classification.

They had two common opponents.

Alexander Central.
Hickory in the early season 49-0.
Crest 41-7 in regular season finale.

Hickory v Freedom. 33-14.
Crest v Freedom. 45-19.

Impressive ....before this school was built where did these kids attend ? Independence?????

ive been watching their highlights and lord they look almost unstoppable.that shipley kid reminds me a little of a kid that played at south point. i think his last name was brey. he was blistering fast but i think the shipley kid is close to his speed with much more power.i agree with most people im thinking weddington will definitely 3 peat .congrats to them on a great year and a great team.

No one knows how the classification breakdown will be set.

If the alignment stays the same as currently in place there will be about ten or so 3A schools larger than Weddington that would move up first. They would be right on the bubble. Neighboring Marvin Ridge and Cuthbertson are both larger.
