Way to early 2a State championship predictions

What does James Kenan, Clinton, Whiteville, Kinston have returning for 2022?
Clinton returns 16 starters majority on defense. Biggest questions will be QB position and a couple spots on the oline. Also D-coordinator Dennis McFatten is back for a 2nd stint with team after a year coaching in Florida. Way to early to say we will be in the mix out east but looks like we are having a very productive offseason and with what we return should be competitive.

JK will be solid again this year helped by additions from a good JV team. Wallace has some holes to fill but also had a stellar JV team. ED returns all skill people except the QB, majority of the defense including the entire secondary and placekicker. Not sure of the order, but they finish 1-2-3 in the ECC.

We (Shelby) are only losing I think 2 from the offensive side of the ball... Offense will be explosive, we will have to attempt to replace some D1 talent on defense.... We should be in the mix

Burns has a bunch of talent coming back

Reidsville was young, they will be a handful for everyone

Maiden seems to have a good nucleus coming back

Dont know enough about teams in the East to intelligently comment, but the usual suspects Clinton, WRH ,East Duplin are always tough outs in the east..

You have your quarterback returning I know that much. I got Shelby out of the West until proven otherwise LOL. East is a toss up imo

One thing everyone needs to consider is just not returning talent. You have to play at least a few teams that are going test you so that you can learn how to respond when the other team punches you in the mouth.

Reidsville plays 3a western alamance, 3a eastern alamance and 4a page. I think all those teams have good programs. What the problem is in conference

East Gaston went to the 3rd round…

wishing they could have played someone other than Shelby.

What do they have coming back?

I believe they graduate a good bit of their talent. But their coach seems to have done a good job getting the program headed in the right direction, got more players out, and their JV team hasnt been awful. I dont think they will be as good as they were this year, but I dont think they are going to slide all the way back and be near as bad as they were a few years ago.

It shouldn’t be that much of an issue. The entire team is pretty much back. It will be some holes of course

The offensive and defensive starting units look good, but 8 or so will be starting both ways. The WRs and RBs are all defensive starters. Depending on what D they use, 2-3 OL are as well.

Rams will have 3 capable QBs though!

Are we sure we know who the starting running back will be? Seems like it could be, Cobb, redd or wider man. We have enough guys where we don’t have to do a lot of both ways unless the coaches want to do that. Flip, jd and a few lineman are guaranteed both ways imo.

I figured it as Cobb and Redd as the starters. I forgot the return of Johnson so that probably means 1 less two way starter, unless he ends up a starting WR.

Also... Is Cobb moving to LB or will he stay on the line? I doubt Louisville wants him at NG too often lol

I would think Cobb and i would move widerman to middle lb. Not sure if Johnson is playing wr, I know he will likely be involved in the offense at some capacity. I think we should use a tight end set, we have Denny and that freshman coming in. But you also have guys like Mendoza and Kai Jordan who can contribute somewhere

if either of those guys can block well enough to play TE then might as well put them on the o-line.

I have a strong suspicion that Cobb will be moved around a lot on defense so the offenses will not know where to find him. Lots of teams other than Louisville have him on their radars.

Also, QB Lee and WR Flippen getting lots of recruiting attention.

I dont see anyone being close to Shelby level, I imagine it will be them and Reidsville for the western crown East Duplin will be tough to beat in the east this year, as far as WRH we lost a D1 RB Kanye Roberts and Kaymond Farrior who signed with Fayettville State. We do have Antwan Montgomery returning so thats good.

Burns will have their QB, RB and top 2 WRs back this fall. Lost a bit along both lines and a couple standouts on defense. I don't think they'll be in the state championship picture to be honest but they will have a chance to be really good. Conference really hurts Burns though outside of Shelby & maybe East Gaston.

I thought farrior was a junior last yr

We're returning almost all our starters...and they'll all be seniors with 2 year starting experience...the next players up on the line are going to be just fine given what I saw this past year. Our biggest question is at QB...and the ole rumor mill says that question may be answered...I feel optimistic about this upcoming year.

Whilst eventually he will be starting QB , Coach Devine has to find a way to get Graham Warlick the ball as a sophomore.... That kid is just a special talent... when his frame catches up to his pure athletic ability AND his speed watch out.....

You and shelby play a pretty tough non conference. Out of the 10 or so games you guys play about half of them are tough. I think that's good enough in 2a ball. No one plays the schedules they used to in 2a like in the early to mid 2000's

Graham is one of the fast kids I've seen in a long time. He'll be a great deep ball threat IMO

I'm excited to see him in action. I only saw a few clips from him on JV last year. But I heard he leaves everyone in the dust. We'll have to be more creative on offense next year or 2022 will look exactly like 2021.

Word around is one of them top WR is trying his best to get to Shelby, stay tune
