Ironic that half of these schools are 2A.....of course most have played in 3A ranks and Reidsville for a bout a dozen years in 4A as well....also noticed all are fairly small community schools, instead of the directional or county schools.........50 ties are a lot (for Shelby)....the last time Reidsville had tie was 1972 versus Greensboro Grimsley.........................

The directional schools mostly came about in the 1960's (some before) with the consolidation of schools and integration. Limited time in existence would make it tough to make the list. Richmond County opened in 1972. Probably the most notable exception and not there mostly due to the time of existence.

rambbq, where is Clinton on the list? Before the post 2006 collapse they were as high as 75 nationally

couldn't find them Wiz...on the state list I saw..the minimum number of wins was 600....How many do the Dark Horses have?? Do you know?? I also added the national rank in the post above to those top ten teams.............

The Tuscola listing is obviously including Waynesville Township HS in the totals.

gobiggreen.net has the Tuscola-Pisgah totals through 2015 with Pisgah up +40 wins. If you add Canton HS in with Pisgah, their total numbers might surpass or be close to WTHS/THS yet they don't even show in the top ten? I'd need to see their data source for this.

Tuscola would have had to play 16 games per year.

rambbq how far back y'all going? I know since just 1972 they're 420-155-1 if we're going back to the 1950's they're well over 600. I'll find out Where did you get the national rankings. I know the DarkHirses are in that. They didn't fall out over 4-5 bad years out of say 50.

rambbq can you post the exact link to that site.all I could find was top 50 and that was through 2015

Would love to see a list of NC schools starting from the integration years. Around 63-65. Some schools like shelby have a 30-40 year head start on bulk of schools in NC. The above list is more about longevity than greatness.

Can't quote numbers, but I know of two loosing seasons Shelby has had from 1963. I also know that Shelby has played in 20 title games during that span. Also had many other 10 plus win seasons when they didn't play in the title game. More than likely have likely have averaged 10 plus wins per season during that 54 year time span. I could be wrong, I'm sure one of the 98champ guys will know.

the web site says NC not Illinois...nickname says Mountaineers...is that correct? if it's not in NC then a correction needs to be sent to FFN-Texas........if the new info you gave is correct then Edenton Holmes would move into 9th place and Hendersonville would move into 10th place ( 597-373-27 )...............

Doing the math, BlueVols, this makes Waynesville Township HS 262-71, with a .787 win %. Is that right?

Weatherby had a record of 213-51-4, retiring in the summer of 1956. (1929-1955 seasons). The records are a little spotty prior to his tenure. Football is credited with beginning at Waynesville HS in 1922, although there are mentions as far back as 1906 or 1908. The seven seasons from 1922-1928 have incomplete or conflicting schedules depending on the source. Weatherby's total number of games was 268 so WTHS' wins would be north of the 262 mark.

I've never seen records for Canton HS but I'm sure they are close as the Bears and Mountaineers would go through streaks of splits and win streaks against each other but dominate everyone else in the area save for Asheville.

Here are Tuscola/Waynesville scores I have found since 1955.

I have compiled clippings for WTHS from various newspapers and yearbooks.
Here is 1900's, 1922-1949. Click "Photos" then "Albums" for each year, except for the 1900's decade has its own album. It is a work in progress.

That's some very interesting material you have on the face book page. I love and appreciate your hard work in gathering that information. I am curious as to where the team of Walnut was located?

Thank you. Walnut, at one time, was a member of the Skyline Conference with Glen Alpine, Spruce Pine and other mountain schools. They never played Glen Alpine in football during their time in the Skyline.

Cheerduck, had a little contact with our friend, Lincolnton. He mentioned the possibility of attending the American Legion Tournament in the Chair City this weekend. Are you joining him? If so, we may need to double up on the gendarmes, or get an extra key to the city out of the vault. Not sure which.

OC, I didn't get to make it over due to unforeseen circumstances. Some of the sportscasters in this area sent back photos of Finch Field, in Thomasville. It's a nice complex.
Shelby plays Wilmington at 4 PM, today, for the state title and a trip to the Southeast regional in Asheboro.
By now, T'ville is getting ready for football. It wouldn't surprise me if this is the year when the Bulldogs come roaring back.

Sorry for the late response, but I didn't see this in time. I wish you guys the best.
