This is the same thing I ran into when I was doing ratings. People need to understand that MaxPreps is not a poll. The rating considers the total body of work. Just because one team beats another, doesn't GUARANTEE they will be ranked higher. Also, in that game, Butler racked up 534 yds of offense to 336 for Hickory Ridge.
I tell you who's going to really be upset. CPC4Life is going to go ballistic now, with Butler rated ahead of West Forsyth, with WF being undefeated and Butler has two losses.

I understand the difference but Butler has not beat a quality team if I'm not mistaken. SOS means nothing if you loose to the good teams especially when you get destroyed by one of them. Your yardage point means nothing IMO just like Time of Possession. Too much credit these days is given to analytics and not W's & L's. I'm a huge fan of SOS but Butler beat a very avg RC team by one point and other than that what have they really done that was significant? BTW I'm not a Butler or MECK county Hater and I think WF is going to get their L against Glenn who IMO is the team that is really being overlooked because they have a QB that is as good as any in the state and he can change a game! That is the team that really concerns me in 4a.

As long as sc is 1 or 2 i don't care unless Glenn is a 4 or 3. I think Hoggard is the weakest between the leading contenders in the east. They beat a very average Carolina Forest team out of sc and I think the other teams would beat that squad by 4 to 5 touchdowns. One of the scores in that game was off a fumble at CF own 1 yd line so that was a gift in terms of scoring opportunity.
Right now Butler is 4th in their conference. You have Porter Ridge, Hickory Ridge and Myers Park all at 4-1 right now with Butler at 3-1.
Porter Ridge is at 6-3 overall, Butler at 6-2 and Myers Park and Hickory Ridge at 8-1.
Porter Ridge lost to Butler 40-17. For their last two games, they'll be at Myers Park and at home against Hickory Ridge.
Butler beat Myers Park 28-7 and lost to Hickory Ridge 43-42.
Hickory Ridge lost to Myers Park 9-7, beat Butler 43-42, with a game coming up in the next couple of weeks with Porter Ridge. They also have a game coming up with East Meck.
Butler's last two games are against Garinger and East Meck.
In other words, it's a total mess now and who wins the league title is anyone's guess at this point.
Maybe they are just good teams but giving up 500 plus yards says that someone might be very suspect especially when Hokie was saying this was one of the worst Butler offenses he has seen in a long time. Time will tell.
There is no dominant team in 4a or 4aa IMO. I believe you could take 4 to 6 schools and if you put them together you could have t4 to 6 different winners. IMO MC, WF (Wake County), Harding, SC and Heritage are all very good teams. I have not seen Page but I know they have some players on that squad. Granted they all won't be in the same bracket but those are the best teams I have seen live or on film. I saw Glenn last year and the QB impressed the heck out of me. SC was chasing him all over the place and he was dropping dimes! starting the second round I don't upsets will really be upsets.
WHich is really the whole story. You want to rank Hickory Ridge ahead of Butler thats fine but then where do you rank Myers Park. ?? Cant put them behind Hickory Ridge. They have played a much tougher schedule AND beat Hickory ridge.
I dont like the MAx Preps deal but the rankings are based on the totality of the whole season not just one game. If Hickory Ridge and West Forsyth have an issue then I will give them a suggestion. PLAY SOMEONE!!!... Stop playing 3a schools and teams that havent been to the playoffs in a decade. Go play Scotland at Pate or Richmond at Richmond put Mallard Creek on your Non-Conf schedule. Problem solved
